Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 963: Chapter 959: Dongdu Police Come to Visit

As the car’s headlights slowly faded into the distance, a cold sweat broke out on Huo Sining’s back. She quickly started the fishing boat and paddled towards the pier near the fishing village. Once on shore and after returning the fishing boat to the rental woman, she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The woman saw Huo Sining’s hurried demeanor and thought she might have encountered some bad people, so she asked with concern. Huo Sining casually explained and took out the ten-plus pounds of small fish and shrimp she had salvaged from the sea.

These fish and shrimp were previously caught by Huo Sining using Spiritual Energy from the sea area near the woods and rock reefs, with the aim of using them as a cover.

Earlier, when Huo Sining rented the boat, she had told the rental woman that she planned to go out to sea to fish. The woman hesitated and was reluctant to rent to her, fearing that the young girl might meet trouble in the sea. Huo Sining used the excuse that she was born in the fishing village and often traveled on the sea, was familiar with swimming. She even jumped into the water in front of the woman, holding her breath underwater for several minutes before surfacing, finally convincing the woman.

Though the woman lent the boat to Huo Sining, she was still uneasy. She initially wanted to join Huo Sining at sea, but Huo refused her. The woman was anxious and only relaxed once Huo Sining returned.

Seeing Huo Sining catching so many fish and shrimp nearby, the woman felt pleasantly surprised and amazed. Her boat was ordinarily rented to tourists for sea outings, and these fishing village waters were exhausted long ago, rarely yielding such a harvest like Huo Sining’s.

Seeing the large net basket filled with seafood that Huo Sining held, the old woman’s last bit of suspicion disappeared. This young girl was indeed quite skilled at fishing.

That night, Huo Sining stayed at the woman’s house and gave her part of the caught fish and shrimp.

While renting the boat, Huo Sining let slip that she was fishing to host a fresh seafood barbecue birthday party for a classmate. So, she couldn’t give away all the catches; she needed to take some back, or her story would fall through.

The woman declined several times, but finally accepted the fish and shrimp when she noticed she couldn’t refuse any longer. Though the old woman said nothing, she had grown quite fond of Huo Sining, offering her a new guest room and serving her a bowl of piping hot seaweed soup.

Huo Sining slept soundly through the night, and only woke up past eight in the morning. As she walked out of the guest room, the woman had already prepared breakfast. Huo Sining didn’t hold back since she had paid for lodging and the boat rental, eating the breakfast without feeling out of place.

Just as she sat at the table, planning to eat before heading back to the city with the seafood caught last night, she heard a knock at the door.

”Mrs. Fukuda, are you at home?”

Hearing the knock, Mrs. Fukuda hurriedly came from the kitchen to open the wooden door, seeing two uniformed police officers standing outside. Taken aback, she asked, ”Is there anything the matter?”

The two officers smiled and asked, ”Mrs. Fukuda, we’re from the Dongdu Police Department and would like to inquire about something. May we come in and speak with you?”

Mrs. Fukuda was just a regular person and had never interacted with the police in her life. Suddenly seeing the two officers there, her face became somewhat tense. She hesitated but nodded to invite them inside.

Once inside, the officers noticed a young girl sitting in the room seemingly preparing to have breakfast. They realized they might be intruding and offered her an apologetic smile.

Huo Sining had already grasped the purpose of the officers’ visit as soon as Mrs. Fukuda opened the door. But considering how she secretly moved those five machine tools last night, the officers wouldn’t easily find anything now.

Confident that she had left no traces, Huo Sining remained calm in front of the officers, simply nodding before continuing her meal.

Once seated, the officers began the usual investigation with Mrs. Fukuda, starting with questions on any strange new faces visiting the village yesterday, whether any trucks passed through, and finally if someone had stored any large items at her house.

Mrs. Fukuda listened in confusion, unaware of what these officers were actually investigating. Nevertheless, she answered truthfully about everything she knew.

Knowing nothing, the officers felt disappointed. They were also puzzled about the mysterious disappearance of the five machine tools from the beach last night. After questioning numerous villagers throughout the morning, they found no useful information. Could those smugglers really be so cunning, managing a feat like this under the Police Department’s tight surveillance?

Burdened by their thoughts, the officers didn’t wish to linger in Mrs. Fukuda’s home. After completing the documentation, they promptly stood up, hurriedly opening the door to proceed with their inquiries elsewhere.

Unexpectedly, as one officer was about to step out, he hesitated, turned back, and cast a strange look at the girl eating at the table. He abruptly asked, ”Mrs. Fukuda, is this young lady your daughter?”

Mrs. Fukuda was stunned and shook her head, chuckling, ”My daughter is nearly thirty years old now. This young lady is a guest, not my daughter.”

The officer immediately turned his attention back to Huo Sining, his eyes scanning her sharply, querying in an exploratory tone:

”So, this young lady isn’t from the village, she’s an outsider? I apologize for the intrusion, miss. Please collaborate with us for an identity check.”

Huo Sining raised her eyebrows slightly, surprised by the sharp eyes and intimidating intuition of a mere police officer. But so what? She was merely staying in the village; even if the officers doubted her, without evidence, it meant nothing.

Smiling, Huo Sining took a napkin to clean the food stains from the corners of her mouth, leisurely retrieving her student ID and passport from her backpack and handing them to the officer.

Surprised to see the documents were a Sota University student ID and a Chinese passport, the officer’s brow furrowed tightly as his eyes swept across her face, searching for any hint of nervousness or other unusual emotions.

Noticing something amiss, the other officer instinctively asked, ”Yehara, is there a problem?”
