The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1324: Chapter 1324: Shu Yu’s Science Lesson

The old lady paused in her steps, Shu Yu’s ears twitched, hearing Madam Li clasping her hands and praying softly with closed eyes, ”Bless me with a chubby grandson, it must be a grandson, it must be a boy.”

Shu Yu frowned, and the old lady was so angry that her weariness instantly vanished.

She pointed at Madam Li, ready to scold, but turned her head to see Father Zhou and Second Sister Zhou, holding back forcibly.

Instead, she grabbed Madam Li’s hand, lowered her voice, and said through gritted teeth, ”You come with me!”

Feeling guilty, Madam Li shrunk her neck and was pulled aside by the old lady.

”Eldest daughter-in-law, are you out of your mind? At this critical moment, your daughter-in-law is laboring inside to give birth, and your in-laws are not far away. What nonsense are you spouting here? How did I not know when you became so valuing of sons over daughters?”

The old lady sneered, ”Aren’t you afraid of breaking Cuihua and Lanhua’s hearts if they hear you?”

Madam Li felt somewhat aggrieved, ”Mother, I don’t want to, but, but...”

She glanced at Father Zhou and Second Sister Zhou in the distance, whispering, ”Mother, you’re not in Shangshi Village, you don’t know how unpleasant some people’s words can be. When Daniu’s wife first got pregnant, I was also happy and couldn’t help but brag a little. Who knew those women who usually didn’t get along with me would say, would say our Daniu would be left without descendants.”

”What are you saying?”

Madam Li pursed her lips, ”Our in-laws are nice, but they have four children, all girls, plus the one who died young, that’s five daughters. They say this kind of thing is hereditary, and eventually Daniu’s wife will only have daughters too.”

At first, she scoffed at this idea, but hearing it repeatedly got to her.

That’s why she sought a secret remedy for having a son earlier, only to anger Daniu instead.

Now, as the child is about to be born, even just to keep people’s mouths shut, she hopes it’s a grandson.

”Mother, you know I care for Cuihua, Lanhua, Daniu, and Erniu just the same, but Daniu is after all the Lu family’s eldest legitimate grandson, right? Surely, he can’t be left without a son?”

The old lady furrowed her brows; she too came from the village and had heard such talk before.

Madam Li wasn’t the sharpest, indeed it was easy for her to take these words to heart.

Hearing her say this, it seemed quite understandable.

Shu Yu couldn’t help rolling her eyes, ”Eldest Aunt, how can this kind of thing be hereditary? Whether it’s a boy or a girl isn’t decided by the woman, it’s up to the man. To take a step back, even if it were hereditary, wouldn’t Brother Daniu being a man mean he shouldn’t worry about not having a son?”

The old lady and Madam Li turned their heads to look at her in shock; it was the first time they had heard such a saying.

”What, you’re saying whether it’s a boy or a girl is decided by the man? How can that be, the child comes from the woman’s womb.”

Shu Yu twitched at the corner of her mouth, ”Yes, the woman decides whether to give birth, but what’s the man’s role? He must have some part in the decision, right? The gender of the child is his decision. Otherwise, if having children were solely the woman’s affair, what’s the man’s worth? Why would the child call him father?”

The old lady and Madam Li, ”...” Is there really such a saying?

But damn if it doesn’t make sense; after all, having children is a joint effort, what role does the man play if not deciding if the child is a boy or a girl?
