The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1303: Chapter 1303: On the Importance of the Gatekeeper

Ren Huai, ”...”

So, what exactly do you do?

Old Yang seemed very interested and seeing their eager looks, simply brought out two stools for them to sit.

”You say our workshop is pretty big, right? When it comes to this, I’m especially proud. At my age, this is the largest workshop I’ve ever seen, and our boss is the one in charge.”

As he said this, he gave a thumbs up.

Following this, he sighed, ”I used to work in other workshops before. Without saying much, just talking about the last workshop I stayed in, that place was so small you could barely turn around. And that boss was particularly stingy, blaming us for not making money due to our bad luck. You tell me, what does that have to do with our looks? He’s not a fortune teller, he’s just looking for an excuse to dock our wages. If he truly believed in such things, he would go to Dongqing Temple and ask the temple master to cast out evil spirits. Sir, are you aware of Dongqing Temple? Since you’re from out of town, you might not have heard of it. Let me tell you, Dongqing Temple is...”

Ren Huai smiled and put down his cup, ”Old man, we need to hurry, we’re leaving now. Thank you for the hospitality.”

”Ah? Leaving already? I haven’t finished my talk. Right, you said you wanted to ask for directions, where are you going?”

Ren Huai continued smiling, ”We want to go to Jiangyuan County, is it this way?”

Old Yang slapped his thigh, ”You went the wrong way, you should head that way.”

”Thank you.”

After Ren Huai spoke, he took his people and got back on the carriage.

Watching the carriage slowly fade into the distance, Old Yang clicked his tongue, looking at the two cups slightly swirled with tea, shaking his head.

With this shake, he saw Daniu coming out from the workshop.

Daniu must have seen the two figures; he walked to the entrance, frowned at the back of the carriage, and asked, ”Someone came?”

”Of course, came to inquire about our workshop. Tried to get information from me, but I sent them away.”

Daniu laughed, ”Well done.”

”Naturally, the boss trusts me to take on such an important position, I absolutely can’t make mistakes.”

Old Yang was over fifty, at this age, besides farming, he hadn’t thought of doing any other job. Who would have thought the boss actually valued him, letting him watch the gate, saying it was the first checkpoint of the workshop, very important, so the gatekeeper must be someone with a quick mind and rich experience.

See, the boss is saying he has a quick mind. At such an age, getting such a compliment, no wonder Old Yang was full of energy and enthusiasm.

Everyday, he puts forth quite an effort, diligently watching the people coming in and out.

Others say being a gatekeeper has no future, but Old Yang doesn’t think so, his job is different from other gatekeepers. His wages aren’t low at all, the boss often comes to talk to him. He reports to the Chief Steward every couple of days.

Ever since the workshop opened, quite a few people from inside and outside the prefecture and other places have come to inquire, some even with bad intentions, which he spotted right away and reported to the boss.

Not only did the boss praise him, but also gave him a bonus.

Old Yang doesn’t even drink alcohol anymore, because drinking causes mistakes. He’s now fond of drinking tea, although it’s just cheap tea leaves, and the bitter tea his wife picked from home, he still savors it for a while.

The boss knew of this and even gave him a pack of tea leaves, which he cherishes dearly.
