The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1306: Chapter 1306: Going to Ruan Family Village

Ren Huai pondered for a moment, ”Let’s go to Ruan Family Village and see if those rumors are true.”

He thought the story about Monarch Lu Xiang brandishing an axe to chop down her grandmother was too exaggerated. That was a great act of impiety. If she really did it, wouldn’t she be scolded to death?

So he planned to visit the scene of the incident.

Steward Xu had no objections. The two changed into inconspicuous clothes and took a carriage to Ruan Family Village.

The roads in Ruan Family Village were bumpy and very difficult to travel.

Ren Huai and his companion frowned, got off the carriage at the village entrance, and asked someone for directions. They didn’t say they were looking for Mrs. Ruan; they just said a stray dog had carried away one of his pouches into the village, and he wanted to go in and search for it, offering that villager five coins as a reward.

The person naturally agreed wholeheartedly and diligently guided Ren Huai and his companion around the village.

As Ren Huai walked, he talked with the villager, and inadvertently the conversation turned to Monarch Lu Xiang.

But most people in Ruan Family Village didn’t like Shu Yu. They felt that because of her, Ruan Family Village had been getting worse and worse.

Previously, Ruan Family Village was relatively prosperous in the area. But in just these two short years, it had almost become the last in rank, mainly because of the dispute between her and Old Lady Ruan.

Although Shu Yu did not spread the matter excessively, it didn’t help that Lord Yu sent people to demolish Old Lady Ruan’s house.

At that time, Lord Yu had just received guidance from a ’sage’ and wanted to do good deeds to accumulate virtues for the future, hoping to have a child. Naturally, he made sure everyone knew that the one at fault wasn’t himself, but a heartless person like Old Lady Ruan.

He completely ignored Village Chief Ruan and spread the matter everywhere.

People from nearby villages and the county town knew that in Ruan Family Village there was a cold-hearted person who didn’t care about her own daughter’s life and intended to sell off her daughter’s children.

The problem was, Village Chief Ruan didn’t properly discipline or supervise this kind of person and even allowed her to have such thoughts again, ultimately shielding her.

With such a village, such people from the Ruan family, who would dare to marry into them, only to have their children sold off later?

Some people who had married into Ruan Family Village cast suspicious eyes on their in-laws after their children went missing, kidnapped by traffickers. There were two families that had once gone to Ruan Family Village and made a big scene.

The commotion lasted for several months before it eventually quieted down.

Unfortunately, Shu Yu was too famous. First, she was exiled, then she became the village chief. Topic after topic, every time people talked about Monarch Lu Xiang, the deeds of Old Lady Ruan were brought out again and criticized.

In short, ever since Shu Yu was acknowledged and returned, in these two years, the young men and women getting married in Ruan Family Village have been few, and quite a few engagements were directly canceled.

These people, apart from occasionally blaming Old Lady Ruan, mostly shifted the responsibility onto Shu Yu.

If she hadn’t suddenly returned, where would all these things have come from? If she wasn’t exiled, why would she appear with such pomp? Her return to Jiangyuan County seemingly put Ruan Family Village on the grill.

The villager guiding them had exactly this kind of thinking.

So when talking about Shu Yu, nearly all comments were negative. It was much more exaggerated than the rumors in the county town.

Ren Huai thought he was too emotional and didn’t quite believe him.

Until they arrived outside Old Lady Ruan’s house and saw half of the collapsed building.

The villager softly said, ”This is the grandmother’s family of that Monarch Lu Xiang.”
