The Ace Bigshot Becomes A Farmgirl

Chapter 1309: Chapter 1309: Meng Yunzheng Attends the County Examination

Ren Huai just smiled, ”Meng Yunzheng? Don’t forget the news we heard; he’s about to take the county exam.”

Steward Xu’s eyes lit up, ”Then shall we wait for him to leave Jiangyuan County before we approach Monarch Lu Xiang?”

After saying this, he frowned, ”But he will eventually return, after he comes back...”

”What does it matter if he comes back? We’re just asking Monarch Lu Xiang to concede a bit more, and it’s not like we’re causing her any trouble or loss.”

That’s true.

Once the two made their decision, they quietly waited.

Shu Yu didn’t expect that the people from the capital hadn’t approached yet, and Meng Yunzheng was about to leave.

The county exam is in February, and it’s already the end of January now. If he’s rushing over, he can’t delay any longer.

Shu Yu prepared exam supplies for him, ”I won’t pack anything else for you. You can buy them back at home. This thing is called instant noodles, something I’ve been trying to make these past few days. It’s just a small cake of noodles; you can eat it by pouring hot water over it, very simple and convenient. You can also eat it dry. It’s only the county exam, not the provincial or national exams where you’re stuck in the exam halls for several days, so food isn’t a big problem.”

Meng Yunzheng was surprised as he gazed at the small cake of noodles in his hand, bringing it to his nose for a sniff. It had a faint fresh scent.

He broke off a small piece with his hand and put it in his mouth, crispy and unexpectedly tasty?

He carefully stored the noodle cake and chuckled, ”You’ve really looked into the exam details thoroughly.”

”Of course. It’s only by knowing that I can prepare in advance.” Shu Yu stored several noodle cakes away neatly, ”This time Zhao Xi won’t be by your side, just you alone, so you have to take good care of yourself.”

”Don’t worry. Once I finish the exam, I’ll return right away. You wait for me at home. If anything happens, look for Zhao Xi. Xiang Weinan hasn’t left yet, you can trouble him more while he’s here.”

Not far away, Zhao Xi couldn’t bear to watch. He turned to Shuyou beside him and said, ”You know, they are both independent individuals, capable of managing everything beautifully on their own. How come listening to them now makes it sound like they lack self-sufficiency? Are their minds sick or what?”

Shuyou opened her mouth, intending to reply, but suddenly felt a tightness in her chest, quite uncomfortable.

By the time she managed to suppress that feeling, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng had already finished their conversation, with the latter getting ready to depart.

For this trip, only Meng Yunzheng and Xia Yan were going, as Meng Pei was out on an escort mission.

He had returned after the New Year to continue his work at the escort agency. A few days ago, the agency had a long-distance escort mission that needed personnel, and Meng Pei was assigned.

Meng Pei figured Meng Yunzheng was mature enough, having visited his old home and met the Meng family, and since the county exam is a small affair, he could manage it alone, so cheerfully went on the escort mission.

Originally, Meng Yunzheng didn’t want to make a big fuss. He thought Meng Pei was doing well at the moment. He had always been worried that after avenging Gong Qiu, his father lost his mother and had no anchor, he might become despondent.

Now, seeing that he’s even busier than Meng Yunzheng himself, he felt relieved.

Leaving Little Song Le at the Lu family, Meng Yunzheng and Xia Yan left the city and hurried on their journey.

After sending them off, Shu Yu breathed a sigh of relief and turned to go back home.

But after taking just a few steps, Zhao Xi’s surprised cry suddenly came from behind, ”Dear...”

Shu Yu turned sharply to see Shuyou’s face turn pale, vomiting uncontrollably.

She was shocked, ”Sister, what’s wrong?”

With anxiety, Zhao Xi partly held her up, trying urgently to check her pulse.
