My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1572: Chapter 1366: Serious

Your harm is so much; when have I ever changed my innermost thoughts?

Back then, your smile was as brilliant as a flower. I still remember when you said you wanted to take me around every corner of the world, including sunrise and sunset. You wanted to take me to see them together.

Another cycle of time has passed, the seasons have changed once again. But this time at the school anniversary, I am still enduring my husband’s dedication, yet I feel no emotion.

Although this year, he still endured everything as he always did, and Zhang Zhentian continued to give silently without any reward. Yet for him, it was the happiest year.

Because this year, his wife chose to accompany him, chose to care for him daily, chose to care for his health over and over again, chose to be by his side, accompanying the entire family, showing concern for every relative.

This year, Old Master Zhang watched his son foolishly give just like before, yet his daughter-in-law seemed indifferent. But all of this never received any answers.

Old Master Zhang felt that maybe he really shouldn’t get involved in so many things. The more he got involved, the more his son would feel like he was still being controlled, making him feel unworthy to stay with him.

Zhang Yichen watched his father again and again dedicate himself to his mother, while his mother sat back and enjoyed everything, never thinking of any reciprocation, making him feel somewhat unbalanced. He didn’t want his father to suffer unbearable pain in vain.

Zhang Yichen wanted to have a good talk with his father many times, but was stopped by his wife each time.

Ran Zhihan told Zhang Yichen, ”You really can’t intervene in these matters. No matter what, you can only stand by as a spectator. Your parents’ problems are theirs to resolve. If reconciliation is only due to our involvement, what meaning is there for them to continue their lives together? Maybe one day mother will truly see father’s love?”

”Yichen, actually you know that an unhappy family is bad for everyone. If we’re at odds, it will sadden our parents and grandfather. But if our parents are at odds, it will also sadden grandfather, making us as children follow along in sadness, right?”

”Some things will only resolve when they figure it out themselves. When he understands what’s key, he’ll feel that he knows how to live. If we intervene again and again, wouldn’t we be forcing them to respond?”

”I know you’re not wrong, but when I see my father giving and only receiving silence from my mother, who could accept it? I also want a harmonious family. I want our parents to be together out of love, not just for the sake of staying together.”

”Am I wrong to do this?”

”I know I shouldn’t intervene as a junior, but I truly cannot bear my mother treating my father so coldly and watching him continually please her. Isn’t that heartbreak for me too?”

”I could forget what they have all done to me, but these things happen before me every day. I really have no way to endure!”

”An entire year has passed, and in this entire year, my mother seems unchanged by my father’s efforts. He’s always waiting on her, as if he owes it to her.”

”I just want my father to live happily. I don’t want him to be sad and weary time and time again. After all, he will always be my biological father, always my elder, unchangeably for a lifetime!”

”No matter what you think, ultimately parents’ matters need to be solved by themselves!”

”I know what you’re thinking. Even seeing it myself sometimes makes me uneasy. To give sincerely only to receive silence in return—isn’t that pain? No one fully knows this kind of pain; maybe only your father does. Why intervene and make him feel his happiness relies on his children’s interference?”

”Honey, if you truly want what’s best for him, don’t intervene. Let him happily do what he wants to do.”

”For him, even if mother is not by his side, as long as he can dedicate himself to her, he feels happiness. Don’t disturb his perceived happiness, or all his hopes will be shattered!”

Actually, both Zhang Yichen and Ran Zhihan don’t know, Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing. This year in the outsiders’ eyes, it always seemed like Zhang Zhentian was tirelessly giving for his wife, while Xia Jing would only silently accept.

But only Zhang Zhentian knows, his wife no longer resists him as much as before. She’s slowly starting to communicate sincerely with him, trying to love him. He can feel this change occurring throughout the year, and though it’s not drastic, even slight change is good enough.

In life, one can’t demand too much. Too many demands will make everything unlike the past. He now knows, as long as his efforts yield even the slightest change in his wife toward him, even if its only a tiny affection, it’s all worth it to him.

But in the eyes of others, it seems Xia Jing is simply silently enjoying her husband’s concern and dedication without ever sincerely responding to him.

Perhaps it is their mutual understanding that others fail to see, leading them to believe this has always been their state. They ask if Zhang Zhentian is a fool for only giving without asking, and if Xia Jing is too shrewd for only taking without returning.

But now I know there’s no way back for us anymore. I also want to ask if back then you ever thought, when I’m old and unable to move, would you still love me? But I’ve never asked because I’m afraid the answer might be no.

When you said you hurt me, I knew the words were too harsh. Between us, it’s not about harm—it’s always been about enduring the pain.
