My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1556: Chapter 1350: Exhaustion

Another week has passed. It’s already the third week since Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing had the car accident. They have all been waiting for their family members to wake up, but every time, they are only met with disappointment.

Xiao Wei has been waiting here for an entire week, hoping for his sister and brother-in-law to wake up. But why does it seem like heaven is playing a cruel joke on them? These family members wait anxiously here, but there is no response from the patients inside. Even the medical staff can’t bear to see it. They can hardly believe that such devoted family members could exist in this world, waiting so tirelessly without leaving, yet heaven seems so unfair to them.

There’s been talk lately in many places that Old Master Zhang, Zhu Jun, has changed, and it was his son who once again sent him to the hospital. But who truly knows the severe reason for his hospitalization? It wasn’t because his son made him angry, but rather that it’s his son who was in the hospital, dealing such a heavy blow to him that led to his coma.

Every day when Old Master Zhang wakes from his dreams, he asks his grandson if his mom and dad have woken up. He wants to know about his son and daughter-in-law’s condition, but every time his grandson, including the medical staff, gives him a negative answer, causing his will to be gradually worn down.

Everyone feels that things shouldn’t have progressed like this. They think that the patients, who have already passed the life-threatening period, should have woken up. Even though all the respiration machines were removed, the two of them lie there quietly as if dead, even though all life signs are normal, yet they can’t open their eyes.

Li Jiayuan has been waiting for so long, a whole week, yet her husband still hasn’t returned home. She is getting worried and increasingly uneasy, feeling that this matter is not simple.

Even if her husband went on a business trip before, he would never leave for so long; moreover, this time, he wasn’t on a business trip but had returned to China. Why has he been in China for many days without any news? Although he calls her every night, his reassurance doesn’t lessen her growing unease.

She decides to go back home to see for herself, wanting to find out what major issue has kept her husband from coming home for a whole week, only making nightly phone calls which end swiftly. What could be making them so anxious?

Just then, Lei Kai came in. Seeing his mother packing all her bags ready to leave, he quickly asked, ”Mom, where are you going? Why have you packed so many things? Are you going on a trip or planning to return to China?”

Li Jiayuan was puzzled. She hadn’t mentioned where she was going, so why did her son think she was going back to China? Could it be that her son knows something?

”Kai, tell me, do you know something about why your dad went back to China? Why does everyone know but no one wants to tell me? Be honest, do you know what has happened?”

”Mom, didn’t you know? Brother Yichen’s parents had a serious car accident some weeks ago. They seemed to have been preparing for a trip abroad when they had this huge accident, leaving them in a coma without waking. Dad probably went back because of that, after all, she is his sister!”

Upon hearing what her son said, Li Jiayuan finally understood. So this is the reason. No wonder her husband chose to return home. He didn’t even tell her about such a big event, maybe to avoid worrying her.

”Why does everyone know about this yet no one told me? Keeping me in the dark, for what? You say it’s to keep me from worrying, but you should at least have the decency to tell me. That’s the least respect, don’t you know?

I am part of this family. Over the years, I’ve never interfered in your decisions, but on such matters, you have to tell me. No matter what, I’m friends with her, and since I am, I should go see her. It’s the basic decency in dealing with people!

Why are you father and son hiding things from me? Do you really see me as an unreasonable woman? Why do you, being my son and his wife, never consider how I’d feel knowing the truth?”

Lei Kai hadn’t expected such a big reaction from his mom. He had thought before about telling his mom what happened but wasn’t sure how to approach it.

He couldn’t be sure about everything, and he feared his mom would rush back to China and fetch his dad, as she knew something about past troubles in older generations yet couldn’t anticipate things turning this severe.

”Mom, we didn’t tell you for your own good. We know you’re not petty, but we don’t know how to explain it to you. I’ve been worrying whether to tell you in advance, fearing you’d feel hurt knowing we kept it from you.

We ultimately decided not to worry you, to spare you from travel. We chose to keep it from you as long as possible!

We just didn’t expect...”

”You just didn’t expect me to catch on so quickly and learn the truth, did you? When you do things, don’t be too autocratic. Respect my opinion. Even if you don’t want me to go back, talk to me, explain, I can understand.

But you repeatedly ignore my feelings. Are you treating me as family? You don’t realize how awkward this makes me feel. How would others talk if they found out?”
