My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1559: Chapter 1353: What Do You Want?

I’m not afraid that you don’t love me, I’m afraid that you’ve mistaken habit for love.

Ran Zhihan decided to visit Old Master Zhang in the hospital before leaving. After all, Old Master Zhang had always taken good care of him since she married into the family, never intentionally making things difficult for him. She wasn’t the kind of person to forget favors. Since her grandfather had been kind to her, why should she avoid him? No matter what had happened between her and her husband, she shouldn’t take it out on her relatives, as they truly loved her.

Old Master Zhang was happy to see his granddaughter-in-law visit him at the hospital. It’s been so long since he last saw her, and he had been waiting. Although he always hoped for another great-grandchild, he also longed for his grandson’s company. Regardless of their past relationship, once they decided to be together, certain things must be faced.

”Zhihan, you’re here. What made you think of visiting Grandpa today? I’ve been waiting for you to come see me. Why didn’t you bring my great-grandson?

I haven’t seen him for so long. I miss him terribly and want him to see his great-grandfather.

Have you two been especially busy lately, or has something happened at home? Why haven’t you come to see me often? Leaving me alone in the hospital led me to think you might have forgotten about me. If you hadn’t visited today, I really would’ve thought you hadn’t remembered me, leaving me here while you enjoyed life as a happy couple. But seeing you today really made me happy. It’s been such a long time, I really missed you both!”

Ran Zhihan felt immense pain in her heart. Why did such things have to happen to her? All she wanted was to live with her family, but why was it so hard? Was all this punishment because she had betrayed the family? She had never imagined such things happening. All she wanted was a peaceful and happy life, but her mistakes made everything difficult. Should someone else take the blame for what she did?

No matter how incapable she felt, no matter how unbearable her past, and regardless of the pain and heartbreak she endured, she could never avoid these issues. They had to be faced. No one can escape the past. Perhaps only by facing everything openly can the awkwardness be reduced. No matter her perspective, they had no justification to continue hiding things for her. Only by choosing to face it openly might she find a different path.

”Grandpa, my main reason for coming today is to tell you that I have some matters to attend to and may be away on a business trip for a while. I’m leaving the household matters in your hands. You know your grandson’s taste, and with me not around, he can have some peace. I don’t want anything to disturb his work. I wish to take a break and see just how big this world is, and I hope you can grant me this wish.”

Old Master Zhang realized things weren’t as simple as they seemed upon hearing this. Was there some conflict between the young couple, or a secret they hadn’t shared with him? Seeing his granddaughter-in-law so upset, was there really an issue between the couple?

”Zhihan, has something happened between you and Yichen? Why did you suddenly say these things to Grandpa? Do you know how much it hurts to hear you say this? I’ve always treated you like a child of the family. If you suddenly leave, how could Grandpa bear it? I’ve grown used to having you in the house, but now you suddenly want to leave. How lonely it would be for Grandpa to return home alone!”

”Grandpa, this isn’t about anyone else. It’s my own mistake, and now I want to take a break and reflect on what I did wrong. I know you’ve always cared for me, but I also hope you understand that some mistakes, once made, must be faced responsibly. I just had a big fight with my husband, and I can’t live with him. I can’t understand why he would let his son experience the same pain he endured. As parents, shouldn’t we wish for our children to grow up happily?

I don’t even know how to comfort my son anymore. Watching him train so hard breaks a mother’s heart. No one understands how I feel. I just hope my son can grow up happily without suffering, without eyes full of hatred, without being blinded by it.

Grandpa, can you understand my pain? I really don’t know what to do. Is my leaving the only way for peace? I just want my son to have a happy childhood. Everyone only gets one childhood, and when children don’t have a happy one, they suffer later, trying only to prove themselves to those they care about. I don’t want my son to suffer like that. He should have a joyful childhood. He’s just a child, what did he do wrong? Why must adult issues affect him?”

Old Master Zhang sighed, understanding the reasoning. But he found it inconvenient to interfere. Everyone chooses their path, and the results will differ. Since the choice was made, what reason is there to blame others? The chosen path cannot be avoided, so why not confront it head-on?

”Children must choose their paths. Since he’s chosen, he can’t avoid what he’ll face. Better to let himself take responsibility, to face it. Maybe that way he’ll grow faster, right?”

Everything seems so natural, yet no one knows what kind of life they deserve. It’s all so inevitable...
