My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1514: Chapter 1308: Life

A person has many ways to live their life, and whether they are happy or not depends on whether their choices have exceeded their own expectations. It’s possible that one’s happiness can bring joy to another, and a blissful life might also lead to their collapse.

Another week has passed, and this is already the third week since Zhang Zhentian and Xia Jing’s car accident. They are all waiting for their family members to wake up, but time and time again, they are met with nothing but disappointment.

Xiao Wei has been waiting here for a whole week, hoping his sister and brother-in-law would wake up. But why does it seem like fate is playing a joke on them? These family members have been anxiously waiting here, yet the patients inside show no response. Even the medical staff find it unbearable to watch. They can hardly believe that such devoted family members exist in this world--people who have waited here day after day without leaving, yet fate has been too unfair to them.

During this time, many were talking about how Old Master Zhang Zhu Jun’s demeanor had changed; it was said that his son put him in the hospital again. But who really knows that the true reason for his severe hospitalization was not because his son did something to anger him but because his son was hospitalized, and the blow was too great for him, leading to his coma.

Every day, when Old Master Zhang wakes up from his dreams, he asks his grandson the same question: whether his parents have awakened. He wants to know how his son and daughter-in-law are doing, but each time, his grandson and even the medical staff give him only negative responses, gradually eroding his will.

Everyone feels that this situation shouldn’t have developed this way. They think that why can’t the patients, who have passed the critical phase, wake up? Although all the ventilators have been removed, the two of them lie there, as still as if they were dead. Despite all vital signs showing normal, they simply have no way to open their eyes.

Li Jiayuan has been waiting a long time; she waited for an entire week but did not see her husband return home. She became anxious, increasingly uneasy, as she felt there was more to this matter.

No matter how long her husband traveled for work in the past, he never stayed away this long, much less this time, when he wasn’t on a business trip but had returned to China. Why hasn’t there been any news for so many days after going back to China? Although he calls her every night, the unease in her heart grows stronger.

She decided to return home and take a look; she wanted to get to the bottom of the situation to understand what significant matters had kept her husband away for a whole week, with only brief nightly phone calls to her as his wife. What urgency is there?

At this time, Lei Kai came in. He saw his mother had packed all her luggage, ready to leave. Not knowing what his mother was about to do, he quickly asked, ”Mom, where are you going? Why did you pack so many things? Are you going on a trip or preparing to return to China?”

Li Jiayuan was a bit perplexed. Why did her son think she was returning to China when she hadn’t said anything about it? Could it be that her son knew something?

”Kai, tell Mom, do you know why your father went back to China? Why does everyone know but refuses to tell me? Honestly, do you know what happened?”

”Mom, don’t you know? Brother Yichen’s parents were in a very serious car accident a few weeks ago. They were planning to go abroad for a trip but ended up in a major car accident, and they’ve been in a coma ever since, not waking up. Dad probably went back because of this matter, as she is his sister after all!”

Upon hearing these words from her son, Li Jiayuan finally came to. So, this is the reason for everything. No wonder her husband chose to return home. Such a major issue, he didn’t even tell her, probably to prevent her from worrying.

”Why does everyone know about these things, but why does no one want to tell me, leaving me in the dark? For what reason? You say it’s to avoid worrying me, but at the very least, you should inform me, out of basic respect, don’t you know?

I am a member of this family. I’ve never interfered in the decisions made by you all over the years, but such matters should definitely be told to me. No matter what, I am close friends with him; since we are sisters, I will definitely go and see her. That should be a basic courtesy!

Why do you always hide the things you do between father and son from me? In your eyes, am I some unreasonable woman? I am your mother and his wife, have you considered my feelings when you do these things?”

Lei Kai never expected his mother to react so fiercely this time. He had thought about telling his mother but didn’t know how to begin.

He wasn’t sure about the situation, and if he told his mother, she might rush back to China in a fit of rage to find his father. She has some understanding of past love and hate from the previous generation, but he didn’t know things could change so much.

”Mom, we didn’t tell you about this for your own good. We know you aren’t a petty person, but some things we really didn’t know how to tell you. I have been fretting over whether I should tell you in advance, worrying that knowing the truth would make you feel everything was hidden from you and hurt your feelings!

But we ultimately decided not to worry you or have you travel back and forth; we chose to keep it from you as long as we could!

Only, we didn’t expect...”

”You just didn’t expect that I would notice something amiss so quickly, and so soon find out the truth, right? When you do things, don’t be too single-handed. At least respect my opinion. Even if you don’t want me to go back, talk to me; I can understand.

But you all always repeatedly ignore my intentions. Do you really consider me part of the family? Do you understand how awkward you could make me feel? What if others find out in the future, what will they say?

The one I used to be is long gone, and I will no longer do things the way I did in the past. Every step is my choice; even if the road ahead is filled with thorns, I can only brace myself and move forward.
