My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1511: Chapter 1305: Retreat

Although I don’t really care, I also hope you can tell me why you’re still waiting. There are some things, after all, where I hope we can be honest with each other.

Why indeed? Do I merely have to watch you leave? Clearly, you fear, don’t want to love again, but every attempt only proves my foolishness. Having lost faith in love, what have you become?

Zhang Zhentian felt quite speechless towards his wife. Why does everything he say have to make her go against him?

Do I really lack even the most basic authority of a man?

Yes, my life has been a failure; I gave up everything for a woman, and ultimately, the person she loves deep down is not me. Repeatedly, I have done foolish things for her, viewing it all as indulgence rooted deeply within me. But what about him? How does he see me? Time and again, I don’t know what it’s all for, subjected to so much torment and pain in this life.

”I’m truly speechless towards you. I just want to know, when you do this, does your heart really not ache a bit or tremble at all?

Everyone wants a happy and content life; each person’s path is different, and so are the outcomes today. Why do you deal with me in your own way?

Before, I always thought I was selfish. But gradually, I realized the most selfish person isn’t me — it’s you. You cast aside everyone for your own selfish desires; you heartlessly hurt everyone who loves you. But I can’t!

Sometimes I really doubt you. Do you have any conscience left deep down? Is your conscience truly present within you?

Why, after I’ve given so much for you, is it just a series of jokes to you? You never understand what kind of happiness I really seek in my heart.”

”I’ve said before that I know what kind of happiness you truly want deep down, but that’s something I can never give you in this lifetime. I only hope you can clearly understand that some things can’t be forced into an outcome, and even if they result, it may not be what you desire — perhaps bringing a hundredfold, thousandfold, or ten-thousandfold more pain. Is it really worth it then?”

Zhang Yichen stood outside listening to every word his father and mother exchanged, every quarrel. Each quarrel made him feel utterly at a loss to describe his parents’ repeated conflicts. Every time, there seemed to be no solution, and his father always loved so humbly, always pleading for his mother’s forgiveness. But was the fault really his father’s?

”Xia Jing, you should know that in my eyes, whether loving someone is worth it isn’t the question. As long as I’m willing to give everything for her, that’s the truest form of love in the world. Maybe you don’t quite understand it yet, but do you know? All I want is a stable life. For everyone else, that’s something ordinary and simple, yet for me, it’s incredibly difficult.

You might find losing you a kind of happiness, but do you know? Losing you is a catastrophe for me; it’s no different from the sky falling.

If I can’t keep the woman I love most by my side, what meaning does my life have as a man in this world?”

...

Zhang Yichen couldn’t stand it outside the door anymore. If he didn’t step in to stop this farce, who knows how long his parents would go on. Besides, wouldn’t this rare opportunity for their world tour be ruined again?

”Ahem!

Hey, my dear parents, are you two arguing again? It’s like the only sound in the whole house is your arguing. What are you arguing so loudly for? What time is it now? If you don’t hurry, won’t this long-awaited trip be ruined again?”

Xia Jing felt quite embarrassed, not expecting every word she exchanged with her husband to be overheard by her son. Had she known he was outside, she wouldn’t have argued with her husband for the world.

”Yichen, we weren’t arguing; we were just discussing something. Let us settle it before you say anything. If you have things to do, go ahead and don’t let our business delay your work — we’d feel bad about that. Go on, go tend to your work and don’t just stand there!”

”Actually, I’d love to get on with my work, but whenever I’m about to leave, I hear arguing. How can I focus on my work amidst this? I truly want to ask, are you still planning to leave?

It seems it’s getting late; if you don’t leave soon, time will run out, and this hard-won trip will be lost once more. Are you really okay with that?”

Zhang Zhentian turned to his wife upon hearing Zhang Yichen’s words. No one else could decide this answer but her. If she said to leave, then leave they must. If her attitude remained unclear and hesitant, then it indicated that this hard-won world tour would once again become a distant dream.

Xia Jing found herself with a hot potato, uncertain how to respond.

Zhang Yichen looked at his mother in a daze. He knew she was someone who cared about appearances, and since he’d pushed the issue this far, she would definitely say they must continue the travel — she wouldn’t let him see her joke.

Sure enough, Xia Jing responded, ”Of course we should continue. We’re all prepared, just waiting for the right moment. Why not go now? If we don’t, this hard-won world tour will become a mirage — such a regret!

Besides, the matter between your father and I is almost settled; it’s time to pack up and rush to the airport to catch the flight.”

After speaking, Xia Jing picked up her suitcase and turned to leave, not daring to stand any longer. Her words were hypocritical, fearing her child’s sight.

Zhang Zhentian gave his son a grateful gesture and quickly grabbed his luggage to follow his wife.

Watching this, Zhang Yichen found it amusing. Why do his parents, at their age, still play childish games like this? Aren’t they tired?

Perhaps this is just their way of interacting as a couple. No one can truly understand it but them!

No matter what, I won’t give up. But I still hope you can tell me if stepping back is really the ultimate conclusion for us?
