This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng didn’t turn his head, so he didn’t see Xu Pinglin and Gu Ping’s expressions, but he clearly saw the family member on the other side.

His eyes moved slightly, and as his mind stirred, he bent down again to examine the old man’s abdomen.

When examining beneath the navel, there was a very obvious pulsation on the centerline of the navel, and this pulsation continued to the CV-04.

Du Heng paused for a moment, carefully observing the pulsation, and found that it wasn’t from the navel towards the CV-04 but started from the CV-04, rushing upwards.

Now Du Heng understood. Cold qi was attacking the chest from the CV-04, causing the old man to faint around midnight and noon.

Moreover, this discovery made Du Heng’s heart jump.

The navel is called the Spirit Gate Tower, the place where a person’s original qi gathers. The evident pulsation now meant that the original qi was about to escape.

Furthermore, the qi surging upwards was a sign of insufficient kidney qi.

Under normal circumstances, with these two signs—unstable original qi and insufficient kidney qi—it would be a matter of life and death.

”Mr. Du,” Gu Ping called out, seeing Du Heng bent over and motionless, his anxiety growing.

Hearing Gu Ping’s voice, Du Heng quickly regained his senses. Realizing his current posture was inappropriate, he hurriedly stood up.

Hope filled Gu Ping’s eyes. ”Mr. Du, how is the Patient’s condition?”

Du Heng took a deep breath and immediately revealed his diagnosis. ”The Patient has been suffering from this illness for over ten years, and various treatments have been ineffective. However, the illness is not fatal. Although the pulse is slow and thin, it is not scattered or chaotic. Therefore, the Patient’s vitality has not been extinguished, and there is still hope for treatment.”

As soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Xu Pinglin, who was standing nearby, let out a long sigh of relief.

He genuinely didn’t want to perform surgery on such an elderly Patient in this condition; the risks and uncertainties were too great.

Without an examination, the condition of the stomach is unknown, and a laparotomy carries too many uncertainties.

And he is so old, especially in his current physical condition. Closing the abdomen after surgery would be much harder than starting the operation.

Now that Du Heng’s words had provided some assurance, his heart finally settled.

Du Heng said there was a way, so there must be a way. This was the conclusion drawn from their experiences over the past year.

Gu Ping also looked relieved.

Before this, he had been worried about the Patient’s condition, but even more so, he felt an unspoken sense of professional failure.

Unable to identify the cause of the illness, unable to determine the pathogenesis... As for writing a prescription and preparing the medicine, that was even more out of the question.

He felt like an empty-headed idiot, completely unsure of what he was doing.

With Du Heng’s words, he suddenly felt as if he had been brought back from the brink of death.

The Patient’s family member nearby also felt happy.

Never mind Xu Pinglin’s unwillingness to perform a laparotomy; even he didn’t want his eighty-year-old father to go under the knife.

But seeing his father’s miserable suffering, he felt utterly helpless.

”Mr. Du, just tell me, and I’ll go get the medicine.”

”It’s not something I can just tell you offhand,” Du Heng replied. ”I need to go back and think about it carefully, then write it down for you. The medication required is quite extensive and rather complex.”

”Okay,” Gu Ping agreed. He then turned to give a few instructions to the family member before hurriedly following Du Heng back to the office.

When they arrived at the office, Gu Ping, unable to wait any longer, asked, ”Mr. Du, can you tell me now?”

Du Heng nodded and reached for a pen and paper. ”The Patient’s kidney qi is not solid, and the original qi is about to escape. Therefore, we must warm the kidney yang and bolster the original qi. Additionally, the Patient exhibits symptoms of Hiccup, so we also need to settle tetany and reduce the stomach qi.”

”Only by addressing all these aspects simultaneously can the Patient have a chance of being pulled back from the brink of death.”

Gu Ping’s face was filled with joy. ”Mr. Du, you’re amazing.”

Du Heng met Gu Ping’s praise with a faint smile. ”Don’t be hasty. Let me think it over first.”

It wasn’t that Du Heng was deliberately holding back. This time, the illness was different. It wasn’t like a critical condition requiring large doses for covering yang and supporting right qi, nor was it like a tumor that called for drastic medicine. The current medication needed to focus on warmth and gentleness, emphasizing a skillful combination of herbs. Thus, it truly required careful consideration.

While struggling to formulate a prescription, Du Heng suddenly discovered that the system, which he hadn’t paid attention to for a long time, had already completed more than half of the disease records for the current stage. Nearly 6,000 disease records had accumulated.

6,000 disease records?

Seeing this number, Du Heng was a bit dumbfounded.

He knew how many Patients he had seen during this past half-year.

In the past six months, he hadn’t really focused on seeing Patients. He only worked in the outpatient service sporadically. As time went on, the duration he spent with each Patient was no longer the initial five minutes; it had become variable.

Never mind five minutes; sometimes it took up to half an hour to finish with one Patient. So, the number accumulated during this period would be one thousand at most.

But now there were 6,000—how could this be?

Du Heng thought long and hard, and his mind eventually settled on the Ointment he had collaborated on with Liao Quansheng.

Only these widely used Ointments could possibly account for such a large increase in effective disease records.

Realizing this, Du Heng didn’t hesitate. He decided to claim the rewards he deserved immediately.

”Give me some time to think,” Du Heng said, turning to Xu Pinglin and Gu Ping. ”You two can go attend to your own matters. I’ll find you once I’ve figured it out.”

Hearing this, both of them understood. After all, this was a case that had stumped them to the point of considering a laparotomy, so it was perfectly reasonable for Du Heng to need time to think about the medication.

With that in mind, they both left, giving Du Heng the space he needed.

Once they were gone, Du Heng, just to be safe, rose and locked the office door from the inside. He jiggled the handle a few times, and seeing it wouldn’t open, he returned to his seat and settled into a more comfortable position.

Otorhinolaryngology Expertise (claim)

Pharmaceutical Expertise (claim)

HMMMMMM...

Du Heng blinked in confusion. The sensation he had anticipated didn’t occur.

His head merely felt dizzy for a moment, and then the reward claiming process was over.

Why?

Organizing the sudden surge of knowledge in his mind, Du Heng still didn’t feel anything unusual.

Du Heng exhaled slowly. Perhaps his brain capacity had increased, and his ability to absorb new information had strengthened, leading to this outcome.

It took Du Heng about ten minutes to organize the new knowledge in his mind. Then, without further delay, he focused his attention back on the system, eager to see what the next reward would be.

Acupoint Expertise, 0/5,000,

Moxibustion Expertise, 0/10,000,

Acupuncture Specialist, 0/20,000,

(Disease records for these rewards are not double-counted.)

Upon seeing this, Du Heng was completely dumbfounded.

What were these rewards? Could it be that the acupoints and acupuncture techniques he had mastered so far weren’t considered ’expertise’ but were merely superficial?

Moreover, why did these require so many more disease records this time? Could it be that these abilities possessed the power to bring the dead back to life, akin to reviving the dead?

That’s too far-fetched.

Although his heart was filled with doubts, Du Heng also felt boundless curiosity.
