This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The smile on the man with glasses’ face was clearly contemptuous as he mocked Jin Juan’s deluded fantasies. Yet, Jin Juan appeared confident, showing no sign of annoyance or anger. Her attention remained on the food before her. She said leisurely, ”Hehe, I don’t know what kind of evidence can ruin a celebrity’s reputation, and I don’t want to know. But what I have can ruin a woman’s reputation.”

The man with glasses adjusted his frames again. ”Let’s hear it. If it’s really as you say, then 50,000 yuan it is.”

”I mentioned that Feng Su was hospitalized at our hospital. Do you know why she came to our godforsaken hospital?”

”I don’t know.”

”Cancer.”

”Cancer? Actual cancer?” The man with glasses sat up straighter, the thick lenses unable to hide the glint in his eyes.

”That’s right. Cancer. Cervical cancer, to be precise.” Jin Juan also looked up at the man with glasses.

The man with glasses met Jin Juan’s gaze but suddenly feigned indifference. ”Cervical cancer might have ’cancer’ in its name, but it’s not that terrifying. It’s a curable type of cancer. Don’t think I’m ignorant; this information isn’t worth 50,000 yuan.”

Jin Juan sneered. ”Do you really think you’re so knowledgeable?”

”What’s the problem then?”

”Do you know what it means for someone in their twenties to get cervical cancer?” The eyes of the man with glasses flickered, but he still shook his head honestly.

Jin Juan said disdainfully, ”Then do you know Feng Su also suffers from uterine erosion and adhesions?”

”I don’t know.”

”Then you probably don’t know how she got those diseases either?”

”Yes, I don’t know.”

”One last question: do you know that cervical cancer can affect a woman’s fertility?”

The man with glasses became interested again. ”You mean Feng Su could lose her ability to conceive?”

Jin Juan chuckled. ”I have Feng Su’s disease record, the doctor’s diagnosis, and photos of her in the hospital. Do you think it’s worth 50,000 yuan now?”

Half an hour later, Jin Juan left the small tavern with a smile. Soon after, the man with glasses also walked out, a satisfied smile on his face.

Du Heng knew nothing of this. His mind was a whirl of chaotic thoughts. Even when he slept, he, who rarely dreamed, had a night of absurd dreams. When he woke up, he couldn’t recall what he had dreamed. The content was so vast and jumbled that he had no idea what it had all been about.

After arriving at work, Du Heng didn’t busy himself with other matters but sat in his office, engrossed in his own thoughts.

Just before noon, he called Qiu Pingzhen into his office. ”Section Chief Qiu, before the holiday, you mentioned the science popularization live streaming. How’s the information gathering on your end?”

Qiu Pingzhen had assumed Du Heng called him for something else; he hadn’t expected it to be about the matter Du Heng previously showed no interest in.

”Dean, over the past few days, I’ve researched doctor accounts on various platforms and summarized some patterns.”

”Director Qiu, please sit down and tell me.”

Hearing that Qiu Pingzhen had prepared, Du Heng immediately took interest and came out from behind his desk.

”On major short video platforms, medical category accounts are mainly divided into three types. The first type exclusively creates medical science popularization videos, covering all sorts of topics. The second type produces both popular science videos and conducts live streams; these primarily focus on dermatology, the Gynecology Department, the Department of Andrology, and the Chinese Medicine Department. The third type features daily life videos of hospital doctors and nurses, combining humor with popular science, and mainly targets young medical staff.”

Although time was short, Qiu Pingzhen had clearly put in considerable effort.

Du Heng nodded, signaling Qiu Pingzhen to continue.

”Among all categories, Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Department of Andrology, and the Gynecology Department attract the largest audiences. Their overall number of likes and fans surpasses other categories.”

Du Heng mused for a moment. ”Tell me, what are the characteristics of accounts with many followers?”

Qiu Pingzhen pondered briefly. ”The bloggers are usually older, hold more prestigious titles, and are directors or experts from well-known hospitals. However, possessing these traits doesn’t guarantee a large number of followers. These types of video accounts share another characteristic: they deliver solid, practical information—what symptoms require which medicine, what check-ups to undergo—all explained clearly in a few sentences. Conversely, some bloggers, for reasons unknown, start their videos with fluff like ’great benefits are here!’ or ’good news is coming!’ offering no real substance. These accounts generally don’t take off.”

After this lengthy explanation, Du Heng said curtly, ”The key points.”

”They’re older, renowned, provide substantive content, and dare to prescribe medicine directly to patients in videos and live broadcast rooms.”

”How many followers do these accounts typically have? And what tier do these doctors occupy among short video bloggers?”

”Among medical bloggers, there’s one dermatologist whose videos are famously blunt and direct, focusing on disease characteristics, medication, and dosages. This has made him a top-tier blogger with 20 million followers. But this is an isolated case. Other good medical bloggers have one to two million followers, while less popular ones have several hundred thousand. As for what tier they occupy overall, it’s hard to say.”

Qiu Pingzhen hesitated, choosing his words carefully. ”Among these bloggers, that dermatologist probably has some influence. However, the influence of other bloggers is negligible. Most of their followers harbor doubts about them too. So, if we must assign a tier, they’d be in the second-lowest.”

Du Heng wasn’t sure of the total number of short video users, but this ’second-lowest tier’ was a far cry from his expectations.

Du Heng leaned back on the sofa, crossed his legs, and tapped his fingers lightly on his knee. ”So, do you think if I used the methods of that dermatologist you mentioned, I could quickly reach the top of the medical blogger category? Become an Internet Celebrity Doctor?”

Qiu Pingzhen thought for a moment, then decisively shook his head. ”Dean, with your level of expertise, becoming an Internet Celebrity Doctor, or even a top medical anchor on a short video platform, wouldn’t be an issue. However, achieving that quickly won’t be easy.”

Du Heng asked, ”What are the options, then?”

”Certainly. First: pay for promotion. The more you invest, the wider the reach. Second: get endorsements from other well-known short video bloggers. I’ve looked into this; it’s not any cheaper than paying the platform directly. Third, a special incident thrusts you into the national spotlight, like what happened with certain renowned doctors during major public health crises.”

Du Heng immediately shook his head. ”It’s better if such special incidents don’t happen. I don’t need fame achieved that way, and I don’t want to waste money either. Tell me something more reliable, something with practical steps we can take.”

Qiu Pingzhen nodded.

There really is? Du Heng couldn’t help but scrutinize Qiu Pingzhen. ”Well, let’s hear it.”

”Go the celebrity route. Feng Su is the perfect stepping stone right now. Plus, I hear you know Li Qin; that connection should be usable too. Then, it’s about being high-profile, as high-profile as possible. Next, stir up hype—debate Traditional Chinese Medicine blacks, leverage your celebrity friends’ status to make the biggest splash possible. The goal is to get coverage on TV, radio, newspapers, and online—everywhere.”

Du Heng was somewhat stunned. ”Will that actually work?” he asked, a bit dazed.

”It absolutely will,” Qiu Pingzhen asserted. ”This is an era of universal entertainment. As long as you can offer the public something novel, you can become famous.”

Du Heng pursed his lips. ”You’re sure?”

Qiu Pingzhen suddenly pursed his lips too, hesitating. ”Doing it this way will definitely work. But, Dean, you and the hospital will undoubtedly face some harassment and negative press initially. The question is, can you withstand it?”

Du Heng suddenly felt Qiu Pingzhen might have chosen the wrong profession. If he’d picked a different career, he might not be where he is today.

Seeing Du Heng lost in thought, Qiu Pingzhen suddenly asked, ”Dean, you’re doing this to drive our hospital’s development, right? But isn’t this too demanding for you? Besides, you’re the Dean. If you personally step in, wouldn’t that be somewhat detrimental to the hospital’s development?”

”Er...” Du Heng was genuinely stumped by the question, unsure how to answer for a moment. After thinking for a long moment, he finally said, ”It’s fine. I was just asking today to see if it’s feasible. If it is, we can select capable doctors from various departments to participate as well.”

Qiu Pingzhen said, ”Oh?” his tone laced with doubt. ”Then what about the Online Hospital you mentioned last time, Dean?”

”Joining an Online Hospital isn’t difficult. The challenge lies in how our hospital develops on such a platform once we’re in. To be blunt, our hospital lacks standout departments and truly exceptional doctors. It’s very hard to make a name for ourselves.”

Du Heng sighed. Nothing comes easy, it seems, unless one is content to live a quiet, unremarkable life.

”Alright, you can get back to your other tasks for now. I need to think more about this.”

Qiu Pingzhen stood up. ”Very well, I’ll get back to my work then.”

Qiu Pingzhen turned and left the office. The moment the door clicked shut, it was pushed open again.

”Senior Brother.”

”Xiao Li, what is it?”

”Senior Brother, a woman actually came! She’s with an Uncle, and they say you sent for them.”

”An Uncle?” Du Heng was puzzled. ”How old? What are they here for?”

”Around fifty or sixty, I’d say. The other male doctor in the consultation room also said they were looking for you and told me to come find you.”

An image of a bashful middle-aged woman flashed through Du Heng’s mind, and he instantly knew who it was. He chuckled. ”Alright, let’s go take a look.”

His curiosity, suppressed for two days, was finally about to be gratified. I absolutely have to see what makes this energetic Uncle so brazen!

He rose, put on his white gown from the nearby stand, and then, with Xiao Li, hurried towards the consultation room.
