This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”Where is everyone now?” Du Heng asked, his eyebrows tightly furrowed.

”They’re being held in the Hall,” the security guard replied, extremely anxious. Despite his age, he had never seen a dozen people brandishing mobile phones and microphones, thrusting them in his face.

Du Heng’s earlier good mood vanished, replaced by intense annoyance. ”Watch them closely. As long as they don’t make noise, disrupt our normal work order, or interfere with Patient treatment, leave them be. However, if any of those situations arise, first try to persuade them to leave. If they refuse, escort them out. If they continue to cause trouble, call the police immediately.”

Having received Du Heng’s instructions, the security guard immediately turned and hurried out.

Meanwhile, Du Heng took out his phone and called the Hospital Office, the Medical Affairs Department, the Secretary, and a few others, summoning them to his office for an immediate meeting.

The departmental structure at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital was different from other Big Hospitals: its Hospital Office was not directly under the Dean’s leadership but was situated under another Vice Dean’s office. This meant this Vice Dean not only fulfilled his own duties but also acted as an assistant to the Dean.

However, this Vice Dean was incredibly experienced and an extremely smooth operator. Consequently, Du Heng usually didn’t bother him, preferring to go through Qiu Pingzhen’s Medical Affairs Office instead. But today’s matter involved social affairs, making it necessary to involve this old slicker.

Du Heng made the calls as he walked towards his office. Just as he reached the entrance, his eyelid twitched; Feng Su’s short Assistant was waiting there.

”President Du, you broke your promise!” As soon as the short Assistant saw Du Heng, she rushed over, her voice sharp with accusation.

”Please, calm down, and don’t be so quick to blame me. We will investigate this matter immediately,” Du Heng said, trying to placate the short Assistant despite his own irritation.

The short Assistant, however, was not appeased. She glared and exclaimed, ”Investigate? What’s there to investigate? It’s your Hospital’s responsibility!”

Du Heng’s face turned cold. ”Lady, you need evidence to support your accusations. We haven’t even begun our investigation, so how can you be so certain our Hospital is responsible? Isn’t it possible you were careless and someone photographed you?”

The short Assistant stomped her foot, whipped out her phone, and shoved it in Du Heng’s face. ”Look! This is the original News story! It has a photo of the disease record you wrote for Su. See? This photo of the disease record was even taken from a computer screen! Who else but a Doctor from your Hospital could photograph a Patient’s disease record from a computer?”

The short Assistant’s face was flushed with anger, and she continued relentlessly, ”Even if it wasn’t one of your Hospital’s Doctors, it’s still your Hospital’s lax management that caused this. It’s still your Hospital’s problem!”

Du Heng quickly took the short Assistant’s phone and examined the News story in detail.

He felt foolish. With reporters and internet celebrities at the door, the News must have already broken. And he hadn’t even thought to look it up first!

Reading the detailed description of Feng Su’s condition in the News, Du Heng felt a throbbing headache coming on.

The photo of the disease record was indeed taken directly from a computer screen, and the explanation of the condition was definitely from someone knowledgeable in the field.

But the person who wrote the article was just too despicable. Although they didn’t explicitly state how the illness originated, the lines reeked of the word ”promiscuity.” Combined with Feng Su’s public image, it was clear they were trying to brand her as ”immoral.”

If this matter wasn’t handled well and Feng Su’s reputation was damaged, Du Heng believed Feng Su could sue the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital into bankruptcy and closure.

Just as Du Heng was hesitating over what to say, the people he had called began to arrive, all aware that something significant had occurred.

Du Heng glanced at the group gathering behind him and said to the short Assistant, ”We are about to have a meeting to discuss this. We’ll talk after our investigation is complete.”

Without waiting for the Assistant’s reply, he walked directly into his office.

Seeing Du Heng ignore her, the short Assistant became furious. Tossing her head, she tried to follow him into the office to demand an explanation.

Fortunately, Director Qiu, who had already arrived, reacted quickly, intercepting the short Assistant and firmly guiding her aside.

In the office, after Du Heng explained the situation, an awkward silence fell as everyone simply stared at one another.

Firstly, none of them had any experience handling such a public relations Project. Secondly, from any angle, this issue was primarily Du Heng’s problem. Moreover, Du Heng’s recent actions had put considerable pressure on everyone, especially his habit of frequently auditing accounts, which had terrified many. So, they weren’t inclined to proactively offer him any help.

Especially Lu Guangying. If the circumstances weren’t so grave, she might have laughed out loud. She had felt the most stifled by him recently.

Du Heng waited for three seconds, observed their expressions, and understood their unspoken thoughts.

”Director Qiu, notify all Hospital Doctors and nurses immediately. Tell them to watch what they say, focus on their duties, and remain silent on all other matters.”

Du Heng knew he could only rely on himself now; expecting suggestions from this group was impossible. However, he did hold the top leader position in the Hospital, which inherently gave him control over them.

He scanned the room again and continued, ”Dean Lu, Secretary, I need you two to go out and deal with those people—journalists or not—and ensure they don’t disrupt our normal operations.”

Ignoring their surprised glances, Du Heng turned to the head of the Hospital Office. ”Carefully examine the images, identify the problem, or contact the person who posted the article. You must find out who leaked the Patient’s information.”

The head of the Hospital Office glanced at his superior, the old man, who had his eyes closed, seemingly oblivious. Seeing no guidance there, he nodded and accepted Du Heng’s orders. Then, he offered the first suggestion of the day, ”Dean, should we contact the higher authorities to see if there’s a way to suppress this News?”

”Is that feasible?” Du Heng asked, genuinely unsure.

”It should be, but it might cost some money.”

Du Heng was a bit dumbfounded. ”Cost money? How much?”

”I’m not sure how much. I’ve never done this before. Tens of thousands yuan, I suppose?”

Tens of thousands yuan? Du Heng wasn’t willing to spend even a few thousand yuan, let alone tens of thousands. He treated Patients himself; why should he end up paying money because of it? It made no sense.

”Alright, everyone, let’s proceed with this plan for now.”

Du Heng couldn’t think of a better solution at the moment, and seeing that no one else was offering ideas, he simply instructed them to get on with their assigned tasks.

Before everyone had even left, his phone rang. He picked it up; it was a call from his superior department.

These people reacted really fast.

Du Heng sighed quietly and reluctantly answered the call.

「Meanwhile, in the Outpatient Hall」

The Outpatient Hall of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital was more bustling than it had been in a long time.

A peculiar group of young people, holding phones, festooned with various cables, some with heads as round as soccer balls, others with hairstyles resembling loofahs, were chattering animatedly into their devices, creating quite a spectacle. This group kept walking around in the Hospital Hall, excitedly introducing the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital to the ’family members’ on their screens. Don’t assume they were well-behaved from the start—not running upstairs or bothering the Doctors and nurses in the Hall. They only became compliant after the security guards physically threw a few of them out. Yes, it was precisely the act of being ’thrown’ that confined them to the Hall.

These security guards were all in their forties and fifties. They likely couldn’t find better jobs in society. However, they knew they had to obey orders and work hard, or Du Heng, in his capacity as Dean, might actually fire some of them.

However, they didn’t much care about these people walking around in the Hall, as there weren’t many Patients in the Hospital anyway. As long as they didn’t go to the hospitalization department behind, they could let them be; it was almost like free promotion for the Hospital.

「At this time」

A young couple entered the Hall. The woman, her belly slightly protruding, looked uncomfortable, her hand resting on her lower abdomen. She was in a wheelchair, carefully pushed by the man behind her.

Seeing the somewhat chaotic scene in the Hall, the woman looked back at the man. ”Honey, what’s going on here?”

The man, equally surprised, looked at the live-streamers in the Hall. ”Maybe the Hospital invited some internet celebrities for promotion?”

”Oh.”

”Never mind them, babe. How are you feeling now?”

”Palpitations, my heart is racing, and I think I’m still experiencing hemorrhage down there.”

The man looked a bit nervous but tried to comfort her. ”Don’t worry, we’re at the Hospital now. I’ll push you to the side to wait while I go register.”

The woman nodded. The man pushed her to a spot out of the way but still visible to the security guards.

The security guards, all middle-aged men, disapproved of these bizarre young people and their antics. However, since these individuals were just talking into their phones in various spots, not disturbing anyone, and keeping their voices at a reasonable level, the guards couldn’t find a legitimate reason to drive them away. They could only watch them vigilantly and grumble amongst themselves.

”If these brats were my son and daughter, I’d give them a good couple of slaps. Not working a proper job all day, what a disgrace.”

”You’re old, you don’t understand. Don’t talk nonsense. I hear doing this kind of thing is very profitable. The ones who earn less still make tens of thousands yuan a month, and the top earners can buy a house in half a year.”

”That’s not entirely true. Every profession has its top earners. Take us security guards, for example. I’ve heard some guards in high-end residential areas make over ten thousand yuan a month, but aren’t we still earning just three to four thousand yuan a month? So, these ones here look like they’re just scraping by. It’d be a miracle if they were actually making good money.”

He spoke with disdain, unaware that one of the ”scraping by” individuals he was referring to was standing right behind him.

The young man immediately jumped up, pointed at the security guard’s nose, and roared, ”Hey! You’re the one scraping by, you dog of a security guard! Acting all proud of your job, are you?”

The guard who had just been badmouthing them, now being yelled at and pointed at, lost face instantly. Glaring, he shot back, ”You little brat, say that again!”
