This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Two bags of noodles, one bag of rice, two barrels of oil, and although there wasn’t much green vegetable, there was a wide variety.

The most eye-catching item was half a pig, as well as a large package of something that looked like chicken underneath.

Looking at the items Du Heng bought, Wang Shuqiu’s father felt somehow ashamed, but seeing the Old Lady’s squinted eyes wide as brass bells, he was also very happy inside.

”Auntie is right, it’s too much to eat. This kid is spending money recklessly. When they leave, let them take some back.”

”That’s right, so much food, just for you two to eat, it’s easy to spoil and waste.”

The Old Lady’s eyes squinted back, her mouth showing a worried expression on behalf of Wang Shuqiu’s father.

Liao Yuzhu, carrying breakfast, joined in coldly, ”No worries, Heng said he ordered a fridge and it’ll be delivered by noon. It doesn’t matter if we eat slowly; we can freeze the food and eat it gradually.

”Besides, it’s not much money. How can you call it reckless spending?

”Uncle, you and Auntie are Wang Fangyu’s grandparents, so I can’t let you go hungry or cold.

”I’ll deposit 3,000 yuan into your account every month. You eat and drink as you like, and if it’s not enough, tell me.

”Grandma, if you don’t have food at home, tell me, and I’ll ask my uncle to send you some. Even though it’s not anything special, it’s better than feeding it to the pigs when it spoils, don’t you think, Grandma?”

Liao Yuzhu spoke with great confidence, and with her attire, she didn’t look like someone making up stories, making the about-to-collapse Old Lady’s heart race.

This girl is sharp-tongued and will have a rotten mouth sooner or later. And that young man is unreliable too. He still wants to treat mental illness? Who does he think he is? Hmph, I’ll wait and see him lose face later.

The Old Lady turned and walked away without looking back. Looking at her shaky figure and the two black bananas in her hand that she couldn’t put down but kept swinging, Wang Shuqiu’s father was really worried that the Old Lady might collapse at any moment.

The two exchanged smiles and began slowly moving the items into the house.

They entered the kitchen and saw Du Heng rummaging through a pile of Medicine Ingredients, so they didn’t disturb him and went back out to fetch more things after putting down the items they brought in.

At the same time, Vice Dean Lu Guangying was also busy as the on-duty hospital leader.

The first thing he did at work was call Qiu Pingzhen. ”Director Qiu, were there any special incidents on the teams that went out yesterday?”

Qiu Pingzhen shook his head. ”Nothing happened; everything went smoothly. However, some doctors have complained that the Deputy Director in charge of the Obstetrics Department had a very bad attitude towards the villagers seeking consultation and ended the free clinic at 3:30 p.m.”

Lu Guangying’s face darkened for a moment.

”Hmm, I’ll make sure to supervise this later. Tell me about the performance of each team yesterday. If the results aren’t satisfactory, can we consider calling them back and giving them a good holiday?”

Qiu Pingzhen’s mouth twisted slightly. He knew too well what Lu Guangying was up to. However, the data reported might disappoint Lu Guangying.

”Deputy Dean Lu, according to a rough estimate from yesterday, the six teams saw over 700 patients, with over 500 mild cases and over 200 needing hospital treatment.

”Among them, more than 70 were in the Gynecology Department, more than 50 in the Pediatrics Department, and the largest number, exceeding 100, were in the Internal Medicine Department.”

Lu Guangying looked a bit stiff, as the data exceeded his expectations.

”Are there a lot of people coming today? We can’t just believe whatever data they report, can we?”

”As of the end of work yesterday, 30 people have already contacted us and arranged for hospitalization. As for today’s data, we haven’t had time to compile it yet.”

Qiu Pingzhen paused and continued, ”If you’re in a hurry, Deputy Dean Lu, I can rush the on-duty staff in each Department to count the number of people and report it by noon.”

Lu Guangying waved his hand irritably. ”No need, just continue as things are.”

After letting Qiu Pingzhen leave, Lu Guangying felt inexplicably annoyed.

He didn’t expect Du Heng to pull it off. But even more infuriating were these doctors. Initially, when they were asked to work on May 1st, it was them who made a fuss and almost staged a rebellion. But as soon as it was time, they not only ran off quickly but also put in a lot of effort and enthusiasm. Just look at this data—more than 700 people in one day! This number is almost twice the number of inpatients in the hospital. How can they be so enthusiastic?

”Dean, you were looking for me?”

Just as Lu Guangying was in a bad mood, a frowning Jin Juan appeared in his office.

Lu Guangying looked at Jin Juan’s timid appearance and couldn’t help but feel angrier. Angrily, he asked, ”Why didn’t you sign up and lead the team for the outreach medical service?”

Jin Juan rolled her eyes and replied, ”I am suspended right now, so I am not qualified to take them out. And because my bonus has been withheld for three months, I need to lay low, or else I’ll be starving. I don’t have any money for food.”

Jin Juan couldn’t stand Lu Guangying’s haughty attitude. Why didn’t she receive the Hospital’s phone call that day? Because she was drunk and didn’t hear it. Why was she drunk? She was drinking with Lu Guangying, and it was she who had organized the gathering and invited everyone. But in the end, the person who got hurt the most was herself. Was there any justice in the world?

”Stop being so passive-aggressive with me,” Lu Guangying said. ”The Hospital suspended your position, not your job.

”Take the initiative and give President Du an out. I’ll see what I can do to revoke your punishment. If you keep this attitude up, I think you should seriously consider resigning or transferring to another workplace.”

Jin Juan continued to roll her eyes and refused to look at Lu Guangying.

”Tomorrow, have your Deputy Director swapped back. You lead the team for the outreach medical service. Work hard and achieve good results.”

”Why should I? He suspended my position, so why should I put up with that? I won’t go.”

Lu Guangying was furious with this person who couldn’t appreciate what was good for her. ”Why? Because Gao Qin and Cao are also in the outreach medical teams. Their Departments could have opted out, especially since they are Directors.

”But they went. Why?

”Because there are benefits in it.”

Jin Juan paused for a moment. ”What benefits?”

”Yesterday alone, the Internal Medicine Department admitted over seventy patients. What do you think?”

”That many?” Jin Juan was a bit surprised. She had been too focused on holding a grudge lately and hadn’t paid attention to the data.

”A lot? There are four million inhabitants in Jinzhou, and last year there were 47,000 newborns. If you all put a little effort into it, you wouldn’t have had only 260 newborns in your Department for the entire year.”

Lu Guangying watched as the person he recommended turned into this pathetic figure, and his anger surged.

Jin Juan retorted sarcastically, ”We can’t just go out on the street looking for pregnant women and force them into our Department, can we?”

Lu Guangying sneered, ”Force them in? With your Department’s current service attitude, even if you managed to force them in, could you keep them? With the technical level you have right now, would any expectant mother dare to come here?”

After saying this, he waved his hand abruptly. ”Fine, I’m done wasting words on you. It’s up to you whether you go or not.”

Jin Juan pouted. ”In that case, I’m leaving.”

”Come back,” Lu Guangying called out to Jin Juan. ”You know Director Wu from our community, right?”

”Yes, what’s the matter?”

”His daughter-in-law’s due date is in two days, and she’s coming to our Hospital to be admitted this afternoon. You’re responsible for making the arrangements.”

”How should I arrange it?”

”Director Wu wants to find a single room for his daughter-in-law. Arrange a better one for them.”

”So that’s what this is about. Fine, I’ll arrange it.”

Jin Juan agreed with a cold face and left the room.

When she returned to her office, she felt more and more aggrieved. She considered making a big scene and getting it over with, but then she thought about her age, her job, and her salary, and decided to endure it.

After taking a few deep breaths, she called the Deputy Director who was leading the team outside. After speaking indistinctly for a while, she hung up the phone and headed to the nurse station.

”Is the head nurse busy?”

”Not too busy. Why, Director?”

”Show me the single rooms. We have a Patient coming this afternoon who needs one.”

”The regular single room, or the more... luxurious one?”

”Let’s look at the better one. There’s usually no one in our Department, so why keep these good ones for nothing.”

”Okay.”

The head nurse understood.
