This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Stroke treatment was the path he chose for the Health Clinic, and he also established a dermatology department. Both were developing well initially. However, for development to continue, investment of time and energy was necessary, as was training numerous professionals.

In one year, Du Heng had only managed to personally train Wu Buwei. This was achieved through hands-on teaching, staying by his side daily.

Others did not have the benefit of Wu Buwei’s dedicated mentorship, so their skills barely scratched the surface.

With his own departure, coupled with Wu Buwei leaving, the framework they had built at the Health Clinic would disintegrate.

Du Heng didn’t feel sorry for the doctors left behind.

Until he left at the end of March, while he hadn’t provided hand-in-hand instruction to everyone, he had taught them unreservedly, pouring his heart and soul into it. If they didn’t learn, or didn’t want to learn, who was to blame?

He only felt sorry for his fellow villagers.

Fortunately, Yu Haiting was still there, a pillar of support, but Du Heng wondered how long he could last.

After all, Central Lake was such a small place; it likely couldn’t hold onto a graduate student-level doctor like Yu Haiting once he broke free from his constraints.

Du Heng forced a smile and changed the subject, ”Alright, Teacher, I’ll make time to come and visit every week.”

Hearing Du Heng’s reply, Li Jianwei stopped trying to dissuade him. Knowing Du Heng was busy with his job, he let him leave.

Kang Zhirong had been silent all along, fully concentrating on what he believed a junior assistant should be doing.

At this moment, the conversation between Du Heng and Li Jianwei revealed a great deal to him.

He knew Du Heng was highly skilled and very talented. But after hearing today’s conversation, he had to completely reevaluate his perception of Du Heng.

Look at what the man had done: a Provincial Level medical science and technology award, collaboration with a Capital professor on cancer research, and he was also a stroke researcher himself. Moreover, his results and achievements in these areas were all astounding.

A five-year age difference, yet an achievement gap of fifty years. This further solidified Kang Zhirong’s determination to cling to Du Heng’s coattails.

On the way back, Kang Zhirong drove while Du Heng leaned his head and gazed out the car window. Kang Zhirong didn’t know what Du Heng was thinking but sensed that Du Heng seemed heavily preoccupied.

What Du Heng was thinking about was quite... rather... sentimental.

He wondered if he would return to the Health Clinic if the district asked him back now.

Du Heng looked at the passing traffic outside the window and became lost in his thoughts.

But this reverie didn’t last long before he found his answer.

He would go back. That was his original ideal, and there, he would find the motivation he sought.

But not now.

Right now, he needed to leverage a higher platform to gain sufficient fame and recognition. Only then could he more quickly disseminate what he had learned and help more people.

Besides, he was still planning to carve out a piece of flesh from a certain interest group.

So, returning to the Health Clinic now was not appropriate.

Lost in these thoughts all the way, Du Heng immediately snapped back into his professional demeanor upon arriving at the hospital. He went straight to check on the child in the observation room.

As he approached the entrance to the observation room, he saw a woman wearing a hat and fleece-lined pajamas peering through the crack in the door. Beside her stood the male family member he had met just yesterday.

Of course, he was also peering through the crack in the door.

”What are you doing?” Du Heng asked, noticing they hadn’t reacted to his approach.

Hearing his voice, the man turned. Seeing Du Heng, his expression immediately lit up with joy. He reached out and tugged the woman beside him, ”Honey, honey, this is Dean Du. He’s the one who saved our son.”

The woman turned, her face unreadable, but with an undercurrent of... an acerbic look.

But this acerbic look was fleeting, replaced by another expression that made one uncomfortable.

If you called it concern, there was a touch of coldness; if you called it fondness, there was a hint of aversion. It was very complex.

”Dean Du, how is my child doing now?”

”Judging by yesterday’s treatment, the child’s recovery is going well. Let me through, I need to go in.”

The woman slowly stepped aside but continued to ask, ”Doctor, can my child recover and be like a normal child? I looked it up yesterday. It said that there’s no way to treat this condition and that recovery is only possible through subsequent training.”

”And this kind of recovery is very limited, Doctor, is this true?”

Du Heng stood firmly and looked seriously at this new mother. Meanwhile, Kang Zhirong set up the camera behind him, aiming it at Du Heng and the couple.

”The information you found is basically correct.”

”Then... my child...?”

”Don’t get too excited. The treatment methods of traditional medicine differ from those of traditional Chinese medicine. Many illnesses that traditional Chinese medicine cannot cure can be treated by traditional medicine. Similarly, many illnesses that traditional medicine cannot cure can be treated by traditional Chinese medicine.”

Du Heng gently consoled the new mother, ”Your child’s treatment was very timely, and I also did my utmost to treat the complications caused by the child’s brain hypoxia.

After one day and one night of treatment, the response has been very positive. As for the child’s current condition, I need to go in and check before I can tell you.”

After speaking, he made a gesture for the new mother to stop, then turned and entered the observation room.

”How is the child now?” Upon entering the observation room and completing all the preliminary procedures, Du Heng quickly went to the child’s side.

”Dean.” The doctor who had taken over the morning shift made way for Du Heng. ”The pediatric patient has had four doses of medication from this morning until now, and his vital signs are stable.

Both eyes are fully open, light response is normal, the abnormal muscle tension has eased, and the sucking reflex is also trending towards normal.”

Du Heng lowered his head, carefully examining the child from head to toe and performing various tests. ”Don’t mind me, keep talking.”

”There was one convulsion at 9:10 this morning, but there has been no recurrence of this symptom since.”

”It seems the medicine has taken effect.” Du Heng gently lifted the child by his small hands; the response was quite good. ”Has the child had a bowel movement?”

”He has had two bowel movements, but both contained white, pus-like, viscous mucus.”

”That’s normal.” Du Heng gently laid the child down, straightened up, and exhaled softly. ”Later, you can send the child out to his mother. Explain his condition clearly to the parents.”

The doctor nodded, ”Alright, Dean, I understand. Shall we continue with the child’s medication?”

”Continue the medication. However, change the interval to every two hours and double the dosage each time. Also, remind the parents to be careful, and you all should pay close attention too. The child must not get too hot and sweat, nor should he be exposed to drafts or catch a cold.

You must stress this point to them.”

The doctor blinked. ”Dean, why don’t we just keep the child in the observation room and monitor him ourselves? The observation room is sterile and temperature-controlled, making it easier to care for the pediatric patient.”

Du Heng hesitated for a moment. ”That would work, but you need to communicate clearly with the family. How about this: let the child’s mother come in to see him, but we won’t take the child out.”

”That works too.”

”Then you make the arrangements. Also, if the child doesn’t encounter any other problems, continue with this prescription tomorrow. But the day after tomorrow, you must remind me to do a check-up for the child and re-evaluate and change his medication.”

After speaking, Du Heng reached out and gently patted the child’s cheek, then left with Kang Zhirong.

After returning to his office and being busy until quitting time, Du Heng remembered that he hadn’t filled out the form he had brought with him.

But he really didn’t want to linger in the office any longer, so he took the form with him to pick up Wu Shengnan.

”We’re going to my dad’s place today. My mom said she wants to cook for us.” As soon as Du Heng picked up Wu Shengnan, she smilingly told Du Heng to turn the car around.

”Is there something going on?”

”Oh, it’s nothing. My mom just knows I’ve been tired from decorating the house recently and wants to treat me to a good meal.”

”If there’s something, just say it, so I can be mentally prepared.”

”Really, there’s nothing.”

”Alright then.” Du Heng raised his eyebrows slightly and didn’t say any more.
