This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Before setting off, Du Heng felt antsy, like a cat was pacing inside him.

However, once he was actually driving, he grew progressively calmer.

He took Liao Yuzhu and her child home, then even found the energy to go shopping with Wu Shengnan, and also gave his brother-in-law a follow-up examination.

「The next day」

Amidst great anticipation, Du Heng headed to work, bag in hand.

”Director Gao, what’s the patient’s current situation?”

It was standard practice to hold a meeting on the first day back after a vacation.

Gao Qin coughed. ”The patient had one fallopian tube removed. Her postoperative condition is stable.”

”Will it affect her future fertility?”

”There will definitely be an impact. It will reduce the probability of pregnancy, and if she conceives again, the risk of an ectopic pregnancy will be higher.”

Du Heng turned to Lu Guangying. ”Deputy Dean Lu, do you have any follow-up arrangements for this situation?”

Lu Guangying hesitated. She was working on this issue but could only say it was half-completed. This was mainly because the patient’s husband had been causing a scene for the past two days. He had almost attacked Lu Guangying as well, which had slowed her progress.

However, since Du Heng had asked, she, as the leader responsible, felt obligated to voice an opinion, or it would seem inappropriate.

After some thought, she said, ”The hospital will fully cover the patient’s current medical expenses and any subsequent costs. Additionally, a certain amount of financial compensation will be provided. We will closely monitor the patient’s physical condition through follow-up visits. If she becomes pregnant again, she must come to the hospital for an immediate examination to prevent any risks from an ectopic pregnancy.”

”Can the patient’s family accept this?”

”The primary responsibility doesn’t lie with the hospital. Our hospital conducted timely examinations and follow-up treatments. The patient’s family hasn’t been unreasonable, and a preliminary settlement has been reached. It’s just... the patient is now relentlessly targeting Director Jin personally.”

Du Heng just said, ”Oh,” and changed the subject. ”Director Qiu, how did the holiday outreach program go?”

This sudden shift left Lu Guangying, who had prepared a lengthy statement, speechless. Jin Juan, who had been ready to speak and defend herself, froze on the spot.

Qiu Pingzhen grinned at the two, then stood up to present the pre-prepared statistical data to everyone at the meeting.

”Starting this week, external activities can be temporarily suspended. All departments should focus on managing their current patients effectively. Also, starting this week, all departments must rigorously address professional conduct, and the Medical Affairs Office should be prepared for unannounced inspections at any time.”

And just like that, Du Heng adjourned the meeting.

At this, everyone was stunned. They had all assumed Du Heng would seize this opportunity to deal a heavy blow to the Obstetrics Department’s faction led by Lu Guangying. They hadn’t expected him to let them off so easily, without even probing further.

Lu Guangying, being directly involved, felt a cold sweat bead on her back; fear gripped her. Du Heng’s silence meant the hospital wouldn’t intervene in the personal dispute between Jin Juan and the patient. Moreover, a crucial point occurred to her: Jin Juan was currently suspended. The interpretation of this suspension might have been one thing before the incident, but now, it was entirely different. Most importantly, the power to interpret it lay in Du Heng’s hands.

Lu Guangying’s heart sank. She sighed inwardly for Jin Juan. It’s over for her.

As soon as the meeting ended, Du Heng packed his things and headed to the outpatient service. Jin Juan, however, was cheerfully preparing to return to her department when Lu Guangying stopped her.

「In Lu Guangying’s office」

Jin Juan looked relaxed and carefree. ”Dean Lu, what can I do for you?”

”Well... you should resign.”

”Okay, I’ll just... What? Resign?” Jin Juan’s mind went blank. It took her a long moment to recover before she asked Lu Guangying incredulously, ”Dean Lu, you’re mistaken, aren’t you?”

”I’m not mistaken. You need to resign today.” Lu Guangying, in contrast, had calmed down.

This composure from Lu Guangying made Jin Juan snap. ”Why? Wasn’t everything fine yesterday? And just now at the meeting, Du didn’t say a thing! Why are you telling me to resign?”

Lu Guangying looked at the increasingly agitated Jin Juan with considerable sympathy. ”Since President Du didn’t inquire, it means neither he nor the hospital will get involved in the dispute between you and the patient’s family. If you don’t resign, do you think the patient’s family will simply let it go?”

Jin Juan was dumbfounded. ”But... but I’m a hospital employee, the Director of the Obstetrics Department! How can the hospital not care?”

”That’s precisely the issue.” Lu Guangying tried to keep her voice gentle. ”If you don’t resign, you’re still a part of this hospital. The family’s dispute with you becomes a dispute with the hospital. In that case, the settlement they reached with the hospital would essentially be nullified. In such a scenario, what do you think President Du would do? If you force President Du to get involved, considering your actions, you might not even be able to keep your medical license.”

Jin Juan felt as if she couldn’t breathe, her face turning crimson. She pounded her chest a few times before she could finally draw a proper breath. ”That Du... he wouldn’t be that ruthless, would he?”

”What do you think? Do you believe President Du, in the end, will prioritize protecting the hospital’s reputation, or will he go to war with the patient’s family for your sake?”

Lu Guangying’s words left Jin Juan speechless. She understood with painful clarity: she simply wasn’t important enough to Du Heng for him to go to such lengths for her.

”Then... then what?”

”The best solution now is for you to resign voluntarily. This way, you take the conflict with you. You can then keep your practice qualification. You could open your own clinic, find a position at another hospital, or even work at a Post-partum Care Center. All of those are excellent options.”
