This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

After arriving home, Wu Shengnan went into the kitchen to help her Mother, and Du Heng took out the forms from his Bag and started filling them out.

However, there were too many forms, and Du Heng couldn’t figure out how to fill them all out. He had to contact Li Jianwei and get the phone number of the evaluation committee. He filled out the content while on the phone.

By the time Wu Shengnan’s father came back, Du Heng still hadn’t finished with the forms In hand.

”Ah, a Provincial Medical Science and Technology Award? Did you win?”

Du Heng laughed. ”According to inside news, it’s a third prize.”

Wu Shengnan’s father sat down happily and comfortably crossed his legs.

This father-in-law had many good qualities. One Du Heng particularly appreciated was that he never put on airs at home. He treated everyone like an ordinary family member and sometimes even joked with the younger generation.

”You still need to work hard. Try to win a second or first prize next time.”

”This time, the formula should have qualified for a second prize in terms of practicality. However, the judges probably took into account that my formula can only be considered supportive medication and cannot reach the level of curing diseases and saving lives, so they settled for a third prize.”

Du Heng made tea for his future father-in-law. After finishing, he returned to the table to quickly complete the remaining forms.

Unexpectedly, his words piqued the interest of Wu Shengnan’s father, who straightened up slightly and asked, ”Come on, tell me about this formula of yours.”

Hearing his father-in-law’s question, Du Heng couldn’t just keep his head down and continue with his own Things. He sat up and explained the effects of his ’whole body divine ointment’ for accelerating fracture healing and the ’Scar Removal Ointment’. He also didn’t hide the usage of these two Ointments from Wu Shengnan’s father.

After listening, Wu Shengnan’s father nodded slowly. ”So, you and your friend cooperated in developing these Two kinds of medicine. That’s good and practical. I hope your prices won’t be too high.”

”Not expensive. The whole body divine ointment is 45 yuan a tube, and the Scar Removal Ointment is 60 yuan a box.”

”That’s indeed not expensive.”

Wu Shengnan’s father nodded with satisfaction.

However, Du Heng felt a little uneasy.

He was correct about the units and the prices.

It was just that a ’tube’ was indeed a common-sized tube, but a ’box’ of the Scar Removal Ointment was the size of a Tiger Balm container, about as big as a thumb.

Du Heng was really afraid his father-in-law would ask another question.

But clearly, he was overthinking it. Wu Shengnan’s father wasn’t concerned about the size of the box; he was thinking about other issues. ”You said the whole body divine ointment can speed up fracture recovery. Is it by a week or a month? That seems hard to determine, right?”

Du Heng nodded. ”Indeed. Because of individual bone quality, it’s truly difficult to give an exact measure of how much time it speeds up healing.”

”It doesn’t matter if it can’t be determined. As long as it actually speeds up recovery, that’s a good thing for Patients. Whether considering nursing costs or time costs, your formula is a blessing for fracture Patients. I think it could have marginally qualified for a second prize.”

Wu Shengnan’s father leisurely commented on the whole body divine ointment, while Du Heng just smiled indifferently. ”A third prize is already very good, especially since it’s just supportive medication.”

Wu Shengnan’s father was very satisfied with Du Heng’s attitude. ”The Scar Removal Ointment you mentioned, can it be used for any kind of skin damage, or are there limitations?”

”During the initial experimental phase, it could be used for traumatic skin injuries. The earlier it’s applied, the better the recovery effect.”

Wu Shengnan’s father’s Eye brightened, and he leaned forward slightly. ”What about burns and scalds?”

”This Scar Removal Ointment, besides promoting muscle and blood regeneration, also has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. It’s definitely effective for burns and scalds.”

While Du Heng was explaining, there was a hint of pride in his expression, though he added with some regret, ”This effect is also written in the instructions for use. However, according to feedback from the pharmaceutical factory, most Doctors currently using this Ointment only apply it to sutured wounds.”

Saying this, Du Heng couldn’t help but give a wry smile. ”To date, there hasn’t been a single case of feedback regarding its use on burns or scalds. It’s only in plastic surgery institutions and the beauty industry that this Scar Removal Ointment is selling very well.”

Wu Shengnan’s father didn’t doubt Du Heng’s words and said directly, ”That’s understandable. Just take it slow.”

After a brief pause, he continued, ”But based on what you’ve said, your Scar Removal Ointment should be able to win a second prize, right? After all, burns and scalds cause significant harm, especially when the injured area is large. Wouldn’t the effect of your Ointment be evident then?”

”It’s still the same reason. No matter how good its effect, it’s probably still classified as supportive medication.”

Wu Shengnan’s father said, ”Oh,” and his upright posture slowly relaxed back into the Sofa. ”What use is a second prize to you Doctors?”

Speaking of this, Du Heng became animated. ”Uncle, don’t underestimate this Provincial Level second prize for science and technology. Once this award is obtained, the recipient’s professional title evaluation is no longer restricted by years of service, and their salary and benefits are directly raised a tier. Furthermore, the Hospital, health regulatory departments, and business supervision departments like the Health Commission will all provide corresponding rewards.”

He clicked his tongue twice. ”And there are many other benefits. For example, for project applications, as long as they are reasonable and compliant, they are certain to be approved, and funding is allocated at the highest possible level.”

”Really?”

Before Wu Shengnan’s father could speak, Wu Shengnan walked out of the kitchen, drying her hands. ”Is your unrestricted professional title advancement similar to our promotion system?”

Du Heng looked at Wu Shengnan as she approached, shifted slightly on his Butt to make space for her, and let her sit beside her father.

Then he shook his head and said, ”I’m not too clear on how your promotions work. But for us Doctors, starting with a Provincial Level second prize, there’s no longer a seniority threshold for professional title advancement. As long as other conditions are met, one can be promoted. For instance, if I want to become a chief doctor—that is, a Director Physician—I must work as a Deputy Chief Physician for five years and then produce qualifying papers. But if I win the second prize, I don’t have to wait those five years. After winning the award this year, I can apply directly for chief doctor at the end of the year. By this time next year, I’ll have reached the pinnacle of the Doctor’s professional titles.”

Wu Shengnan exclaimed, ”Wow! That’s too easy, too amazing, isn’t it? One award directly bypasses the threshold! Then, wouldn’t your Hospital have a lot of Directors?”

Wu Shengnan’s father glanced at his daughter with surprise, then at Du Heng beside him.

His daughter had never been so easily impressed before. Now that she was dating, she was finally acting more like a woman.

But no matter how much she had changed, he still couldn’t help but glare at his daughter. ”Easy? Look at your workplace—how many have won a second prize for science and technology? Then look at the Provincial Department—how many are there? That’s utter nonsense.”

Du Heng also smiled and looked at Wu Shengnan. ”You’re truly mistaken about this. Firstly, not every invention or discovery is worthy of an award, let alone a second prize. Secondly, such awards are generally not achievable by Doctors below the level of chief doctor. Even if they participate, if they aren’t the named awardee, the benefits don’t apply to them. So, the issue of too many Directors you mentioned simply cannot exist.”

Seeing Wu Shengnan secretly making a face at him, Du Heng chuckled softly. ”In fact, forget Directors; many of our Doctors, well over eighty percent of them, ultimately get stuck at the threshold for Deputy Director. Many can’t even meet the conditions for promotion to Deputy Director; they remain attending physicians until retirement.”

Wu Shengnan giggled. ”Well, if you really become a chief doctor, won’t you have reached the end of the line as a Doctor? You’re only thirty, and you have at least thirty years ahead of you. Without a higher goal, wouldn’t you be incredibly bored?”

Du Heng pouted. ”You’re overthinking it. Actually, becoming a chief doctor is when a Doctor’s real striving begins. Titles like provincial Expert, Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, National Expert, National Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor, old Chinese doctors receiving special allowances, and National Medical Masters—those are a Doctor’s highest honors. Professional titles are merely prerequisites for these honorary titles.”

Wu Shengnan playfully feigned disdain for Du Heng. ”So shameless! Only thirty and already dreaming of being an old Chinese doctor.”

”Hehe, it’s not illegal to dream, is it?” Du Heng chuckled. ”Anyway, I don’t have much hope for many of those honorary titles. Can’t I at least think about them?”

”How is that possible? You’re only thirty and already a Deputy Chief Physician, and your skills are so good. How could you not obtain those honorary titles?”

Du Heng smiled bitterly. ”Some titles don’t just depend on a Doctor’s skill; they also depend on whether he can live long enough to be eligible.”

Wu Shengnan was taken aback. ”What do you mean?”

”Take this year’s National Medical Master selection, for example. The Management Bureau directly issued a notice stating that one must have practiced medicine for fifty years to be eligible.” Du Heng shook his head helplessly. ”I started my job at 23. According to this requirement, I’d have to live to at least 73 just to be eligible to be considered.”

”Many of you Doctors start working only after getting your PhDs. By the time they’re eligible for selection, they’d be 80 years old, wouldn’t they? Wouldn’t they be ready for burial by then?”

”More or less. In any case, before one becomes eligible for selection, the Lord in Heaven gets to do a screening first.”

Wu Shengnan playfully patted Du Heng, consoling him, ”Don’t worry, we’ll definitely live to that age. And before you get that title, you’ll have already collected all the others.”

”Don’t be too optimistic. Let me tell you another one: the threshold for the Nationwide Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Doctor selection is 35 years of medical practice.”

Wu Shengnan couldn’t help but curse, ”Seriously? Whoever came up with these selection criteria must be an undercover agent trying to sabotage traditional Chinese medicine!”
