This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

The auntie also had her own troubles. She immediately thought of the consequences Du Heng had just mentioned, gritted her teeth, and said, ”No, this time I have to bring him here. Otherwise, one day it might really be the end of him.”

”Alright, Auntie. When you bring your husband, if I’m not in the consultation room, just have one of our doctors find me.”

Du Heng said this not because he didn’t trust his own doctors’ skills, but because he himself was now extremely curious.

From the auntie’s tone, Du Heng could tell that her husband had been like this since he was young. So he was very curious about how the man had managed to keep this up for more than thirty years, day after day.

After sending the auntie away, the patients who followed were much more normal, and the disease record information they provided was very helpful. So Du Heng asked very detailed questions, and the male doctor beside him recorded everything very carefully.

Busy until noon, Du Heng finally got a chance to catch his breath.

As soon as he stepped out of the consultation room, Du Heng saw a young man in a suit and a very formal tie, carrying a transparent folder. The young man stood tall, yet his face showed a timid and apprehensive look.

”Xiao Li? When did you get here?” Du Heng greeted him warmly and immediately put an arm around the young man’s shoulder.

The reserved young man was affected by Du Heng’s enthusiasm, and his tense body finally relaxed. ”Senior Brother, I arrived at ten o’clock,” he said.

”Why didn’t you come find me?” Du Heng chuckled, then put his arm around Xiao Li again and started walking downstairs. ”Let’s not talk about it now. Today, I’ll treat you to lunch in our hospital Canteen. We can discuss things after we’ve eaten.”

Xiao Li hummed softly in agreement and let Du Heng guide him forward.

Du Heng kept his arm around Xiao Li until they reached the stairwell, then he let go, and they walked side by side.

On the way, Du Heng continuously described the Hospital’s layout and the structure of its Departments, not mentioning the job at all. Even during lunch, Du Heng only asked Xiao Li about his recent job-hunting experiences.

After lunch, they returned to Du Heng’s office. Only then did Du Heng bring up the main topic. ”Xiao Li, I’ve given you an overview of the Hospital. Are you interested in coming here to help me?”

Du Heng’s smile was sincere, devoid of any haughtiness or pity.

Xiao Li nodded excitedly and agreed immediately without asking any questions.

Du Heng asked, surprised, ”You agreed so readily?” He then laughed heartily.

”I know you trust me, but since you’ve called me ’Senior Brother,’ I can’t let you down. Let me explain the Hospital’s benefits and conditions again.

”First, what I can offer you now is a hospital-employed position. This means that, aside from not having an authorized job, everything else will be the same as for other employees—equal pay for equal work. Can you accept that?”

Xiao Li still didn’t speak, just nodded vigorously.

”Heh, since you agree, let’s move to the second point. You’ve graduated with a Master’s degree and have already completed your standardized training, so you can skip that process. Once you sign the contract, you can start working. Any problem with that?”

Xiao Li quickly shook his head. ”No, I can start working anytime.”

”Good. Now for the third point: as long as you get promoted to Deputy Director within the Hospital, you will definitely get an authorized job position.

”The Hospital has strict rules, and many people are vying for authorized job positions, so I can’t help you get one directly. I hope you understand this.”

”I understand, Senior Brother.” Xiao Li’s reply was as straightforward as ever.

”Last question, which Department do you want to join?”

Without hesitating, Xiao Li said, ”The Chinese Medicine Department. I hope to continue learning a lot from you, Senior Brother.”

Du Heng nodded silently and took out his mobile phone to make a call.

In a short while, Qiu Pingzhen came running in. ”Dean, you were looking for me?”

”I remember our Hospital still has some job vacancies, right?”

”Yes, there are a few.”

Du Heng gestured to Xiao Li beside him. ”This is Li Shuxun, a Master of Clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine. Please interview him, and if he’s suitable, sign him to a hospital-employed contract.”

Qiu Pingzhen glanced at Li Shuxun and readily agreed, ”Alright, I’ll handle it now.”

”Thank you, Director Qiu.” Du Heng then turned to Li Shuxun and said, ”Xiao Li, this is Director Qiu Pingzhen from our Hospital. Director Qiu is meticulous in his work and very experienced. You should learn a lot from him in the future.”

”I understand, Senior... President Du.”

”Alright, you may go.”

Qiu Pingzhen promptly led Li Shuxun out.

Was Du Heng’s approach procedurally appropriate? Definitely not. But no one would object, especially at this critical juncture. And they couldn’t object anyway.

Although Du Heng currently held only three major powers, compared to other Deans and Secretaries, his scope of work seemed pitifully small.

However, each of these powers was something other Deans could only dream of possessing.

First, presiding over all work of the Hospital.

What ”overall” entailed or how he was to preside was never specified—not by anyone, nor by Du Heng himself. But everyone understood it meant Du Heng had the right to direct and interfere in every aspect of the Hospital’s operations.

Second, personnel management.

Third, finance management.

Regarding these latter two, others only had supervisory and advisory powers, but no authority to sign off.

Regardless of the scale of personnel changes or the sums of money involved, Du Heng wasn’t afraid of gossip. He kept these powers firmly in his own hands, allowing no one else to interfere.
