Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 860: Chapter 28: Abrupt Arrival of the Memory Mother

A Tier 4 Bloodline suppressing a Tier 3 Bloodline is only natural.

What Ms. Miller couldn’t figure out was why a Tier 4 Bloodline would appear in this Cyber Test Field at all!

Hadn’t that one and only path long since been sealed off by the Mother City!

Crushed by a High-tier Bloodline, Ms. Miller finally couldn’t hold on and, in the next instant, reverted to her original form.

Her arms split into more than a dozen transparent tendrils, the hair on her head rapidly fell out, and the back of her skull seemed to stretch, hanging all the way down to her waist.

Her two eyeballs shifted from those of a normal human to a strange pair made up of ring after ring of golden circles.

That dazzling radiance was shooting out from within the golden patterns.

This form before his eyes seemed to be Ms. Miller’s true body.

Gao Gong’s lips curled into a faint smile.

”Just as I thought. People say the Cloud Nobility are fat pigs raised by the Mother City, but in truth, the Cloud Nobility are fat pigs raised by your Miller Clan, aren’t they? All those so-called ’Alien Genes’ they collected were used by you to study complete Alien Bloodlines. Medical technology is just a smokescreen; Alien Bloodlines are the real key to your longevity.”

Ms. Miller no longer responded. The golden patterns in her eyes seemed to ignite, and this flame formed ring-shaped markings under Gao Gong’s feet.

Then, a golden pillar of light enveloped Gao Gong.

This move could force any Bloodline to reveal its true form and was one of the Miller Clan’s hidden trump cards.

Yet, unexpectedly, under the beam’s illumination, Gao Gong’s figure faded bit by bit, until it disappeared entirely.

Ms. Miller froze for a moment, then her expression abruptly changed. She strode quickly out of the great hall, her gaze piercing layer upon layer of ring-shaped tracks to look down at the planet below.

At some unknown point, the entire surface of Mechanical Split Star had been wrapped in a sea of blood, with towering waves rolling endlessly. It seemed there wasn’t a single continent left on the planet; everything was submerged beneath the ocean.

Then the seawater slowly parted, the yawning Abyss like the slit of an eye, and a planet-sized eyeball slowly opened, staring coldly at her.

Under that gaze, let alone a person, even the entire Cloud City was but a drop in the ocean.

Ms. Miller’s body swayed, then suddenly began to hemorrhage violently.

Many of the tendrils at her arms exploded, and this time they could no longer heal.

It seemed that even her Tier 3 Bloodline had not yet reached completion.

Gao Gong appeared once more. With a light wave of his palm, the blood flowing from the other party drifted over and, in front of Gao Gong, took the initiative to form a humanoid blood shadow.

”I’d originally thought it’d be a hassle to collect the Bloodlines of the Main Race one by one, but you’ve saved me quite a bit of trouble.”

Gao Gong closed his eyes. In the next moment, all the previously collected ’Alien Genes’ embedded themselves into this blood-colored human form.

Although the description of the Sea of Life was still ???

Gao Gong had nonetheless felt his way to its primary function.

For example, in Gao Gong’s view, the most important one: ’Life Creation.’

The Genes he had gathered, including those previously rewarded by the system, all embedded into this blood shadow. Its facial features grew sharper and clearer, until it completely took on Gao Gong’s appearance and merged with Gao Gong as one.

Within the Genetic Leader Template, aside from ’Genetic Adjustment’ and ’Genetic Sublimation,’ the third function revealed itself.

Genetic Adjustment: Can autonomously allocate Genetic Fragments, synthesize a Synthetic Gene Chain, and produce a Synthetic Organism; success rate of Genetic Fusion +50%

Genetic Sublimation: Through Artificial Evolution, pushes existing Genes to a higher level.

Genetic Life: Can manually script Gene codes to create new Life (this Life will possess all the abilities of its Genes)

This third ability might look simple, but it was precisely what the Miller Clan dreamed of.

Combined with the abilities of the Sea of Life, as long as there were enough Alien Genes, Gao Gong could truly create Tier 3 Bloodlines anytime, anywhere.

Facing Ms. Miller, whose expression was still frozen in shock, Gao Gong smiled and said:

”Now, we can talk about cooperation.”

...

With a flash of violet light, Gao Gong appeared aboard a Flying Device of the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division.

”Miss Ke, open my itinerary log.”

”Miss Ke?”

”Miss Ke?”

But this time, no matter how Gao Gong called, the Miss Ke who had always responded instantly remained silent.

”Minister, is something the matter?”

A nearby escort turned his head and asked.

Gao Gong fell silent for a moment, then said, ”No, it’s nothing.”

Roughly half an hour later, the Flying Device appeared at the Fortress’s landing bay.

As a Minister of the Six Ministries (though he probably wouldn’t be one for long), Gao Gong’s arrival still carried weight; a crowd came over to use the chance to network. Leading the reception was a hostess who was one of the Fortress’s Favored, named Mei Wanwan.

”Mr. Gao, your accommodations have all been arranged. Would you like to go to the hotel first, or attend the Cloud Race’s welcome banquet?”

”Can I pay a visit to the Fortress Elder?”

Mei Wanwan showed an apologetic smile and said, ”I’m afraid not. The Elder is currently in repose and is not receiving visitors.”

”Then let’s go to the hotel first.”

Unlike the Deep Net, the Fortress was even smaller than some ordinary Mechanical Cities, and it didn’t have the headquarters of the Six Ministries stationed there either. The overall feeling it gave off was always gray and hazy, like a shabby little county town from the Civilization Era.

The only thing with a bit of high-tech flair was the outer wall, a whole section taller than ordinary city walls; looking closely, it even had a faint translucence.

However, in Gao Gong’s eyes, he could clearly see that the entire surface of the wall was burning with surging flames, and this fire had even burned through Space; the whole Fortress, every building, was engulfed in blazing flames.

”This Colorless Flame... why does it look far stronger than the Wall of Code?”

Gao Gong narrowed his eyes. With his Virtual Experienced Driver’s vision, he could tell that the current Colorless Flame was far beyond the strength of a Tier 3 Planet Firewall, but every time he tried to probe deeper, a strange force blocked his sight.

”What are you hiding, Fortress? Is it what I’m imagining?”

Under Mei Wanwan’s arrangements, Gao Gong arrived at the hotel they were staying in, but before entering, he stopped her.

”Miss Mei.”

”Mm? Minister, do you have any requests?”

Gao Gong didn’t speak. The chaotic color in his eyes appeared once more, and at the same time, a streak of Colorless Flame flared up in Mei Wanwan’s eyes, blocking Gao Gong’s field of vision.

Mei Wanwan’s expression didn’t change. She smiled lightly and said, ”Minister, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving first.”

Gao Gong watched her back in silence.

Even though it was just a brief eye contact, Gao Gong still saw, beneath her skin and flesh, that old, withered face.

Fortress Elder!

Yet another crossdressing big shot!

”Staring at me the moment you walk in, interesting.”

Gao Gong sat quietly on the bed. Combining the memories from his previous life with the intel he already had, he could roughly divide things into several factions—

Cloud Nobility, the Supreme Being’s Envoys

United Squad

War

Turing

and the possibly intervening Cybertron.

As for Gao Gong’s objectives, he had two. First, to obtain the Source Code of the Planet Host Fortress; second, to suppress Turing.

The former was because once he obtained the Source Code of the Planet Host, he could gain the Planet Host’s Authority. This was a key trump card for dealing with the Memory Mother.

The latter was because, if he wanted to synthesize a Cosmic Relic, the top three Destruction Forms had to be suppressed.

However, Gao Gong had a hunch that, with this little Butterfly of his flapping its wings, this ”Fortress Fall Incident” would definitely deviate from his initial expectations.

Soon, a knocking sound came from the door. Gao Gong raised his brows and, through the door, saw an unexpected figure.

”Minister, Deputy Minister Huang Cong from the Memory Supervision Department is here to see you.”

”Let him in.”

Soon, the de facto power-holder Deputy Minister Huang Cong walked in.

A dense aura of Memory Worms rushed toward him.

The number of worm eggs on Gao Gong’s body instantly increased by several hundred.

Divine Light once again flared in Gao Gong’s eyes, and he saw, once more, a worm whose bulk nearly filled most of the room.

On this worm’s head hung two human faces—one was Huang Cong’s smiling face, the other a face that should have long been forgotten.

”How should I address you?” Gao Gong said. ”Deputy Minister Huang Cong, or Minister Guu?”

”Either is fine.” ’Huang Cong’s’ expression didn’t seem to change at all; it was still the same look. It was just that under the ’Divine Knowledge,’ the two faces gradually overlapped into one.

”Or perhaps there’s another title—how about ’Mother’?”

Gao Gong’s eye twitched sharply; his pupils instantly turned into chaos. The Radiance on his body unfolded once again, and in a daze, it was as if an endless Blood Sea surged toward them. Within this Blood Sea was contained a tremendous Life Force, so strong that the Memory Worm’s body began emitting scorching white smoke.

Extremely concentrated Life Force, for certain Information Lifeforms, worked about as well as sulfuric acid.

Assaulted by the ’Sea of Life,’ the worm’s body began to melt. ’Flying Snow’ appeared again, only this time, every snowflake spraying out of the worm’s body was submerged and dissolved by the Blood Radiance.

As the Blood Radiance grew stronger, the two faces also gradually began to melt—Huang Cong vanished; Guu Yitong vanished as well.

This was a very favorable situation.

Until—crack—the worm’s back split open, and a pair of translucent wings emerged. As the wings slowly unfurled, a graceful Phantom appeared bit by bit. For a moment, it felt as though all things in the Cosmos, all its bizarre lights and shadows, all the vicissitudes of human life, existed within this single Phantom.

Although her features were hazy, as if wrapped in a thin veil, her eyes seemed to reflect millions of stars.

In the end, the stars shattered, the Nebula blossomed, and everything returned once more to memory, leaving only a pair of pitch-black pupils.

Gao Gong’s face turned cold as he stood up and said, word by word, ”Memory Mother!”

”You really do understand me. On this planet, no one understands me better than you.”

The Memory Mother gave a soft laugh. With a light wave of her palm, a veil-like Radiance descended and covered Gao Gong.
