Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 852: Chapter 20: Legacy

Amidst the hail of bullets, the little Shota operated several makeshift drones while cautiously moving along the battlefield’s edge using the drones’ vision.

The streets were already a mess, littered with corpses and chaos everywhere.

It turns out the resistance organizations also had their own conflicts; everyone thought they were the true rebels.

Thus, the firefights began.

On the city outskirts, radical rebel groups also clashed with Mechanical Guards.

Underground gangs took advantage of the chaos and looted.

The chaos reached its peak when a group called ”Players” arrived as suppressors.

These ”Players” had powerful firepower and were fearless, sometimes even killing their allies in their madness.

The little Shota saw more than once suppressors being shredded to pieces by the nearby ones before they even had a chance to act, laughing maniacally while killing.

”Haha, I told you, ’Big Muscle Dominator’ would flare up again, and here he is. Come on, hand over the money, I won.”

”I’m telling you, ’Muscle Dominator,’ can’t you hold back? Three consecutive revivals, three times of ’Cyber Psychosis,’ are you kidding me?”

”I strongly suggest you log off and go to the hospital; your mind might really have issues.”

”You’re the one with issues! Your whole family’s got issues! I’ve died three times by you guys; you still have the nerve to mock me,”

I am a Big Muscle Dominator angrily said in the group chat.

’Memory loss friends, be self-aware. Those who can fight, continue; those who can’t, leave the team proactively, or you’ll face a warning first and a Red Name afterwards.’ The team leader shouted in the group chat.

’What about personality resets? I feel like the number of perverts around is skyrocketing.’

’Perverts don’t matter, as long as they can complete the task. Who cares what New Personality they spawn, you’re not living with them anyway.’

On the Mechanical Split Star forum, various posts flooded in, all starting with ’Player Help’—

’[Player Help]: Family, coordinates 411.531.5135, someone has Cyber Psychosis again, big bounty for taking them out’

’[Player Help]: Our whole group has fallen, damn, memory loss is hitting us all, now it’s a pain’

’Want me to send you to Heaven? I’m in the vicinity.’ someone replied below.

’Don’t rush to send us; I have a precious task here, can you lead the team?’ another member said.

’Damn, you’re overestimating me. You really think I can talk sense into a dozen people with just my mouth? Who do you think I am, a negotiation expert?’

’[Player Help]: Damn ’Heartfelt Big Radish’, daring to deceive my feelings with my equipment while I’m amnesiac!!’

’Rumor has it, ’Heartfelt Big Radish’ is a crossdressing big shot, and more than one male player has fallen victim.’

’Cybermadman Beast Fighting Arena is about to start, currently open for 1vs1 and 3vs3 matches. Anyone sick or feeling like they’re falling sick can join and compete. All rewards from livestreams go to players for treating illnesses and buying equipment,’ I Love Eating Buns.

’Damn ’Puppy’, your platform deducts 50%, and you still shamelessly claim all livestream earnings go to players.’

’Form a group to blow up Baozi!’

’Form a group to blow up Baozi +1’

’Form a group to blow up Baozi +2’

’Form a group to blow up Baozi +3’

’Form a group to blow up Baozi +4’

...

No matter how much the players show off, to NPCs, especially those not yet sick, they’re just a bunch of chaotic beings.

The little Shota emerged from an alleyway, looked around to ensure safety, then waved to signal someone behind.

After a short moment without response.

The little Shota turned around to find a middle-aged woman leaning against the wall snoring, and beside her, a middle-aged man tightly bound and gagged.

The little Shota shook his mother awake.

”Ah, how did mom fall asleep again, strange, I seemed to have had another dream,” the middle-aged woman rubbed her skin, as if feeling insects crawling.

”I can detect this is the node of the virtual street. If we hide in this virtual street, our family will be safe.”

The little Shota immediately put on the Network Access Chamber, preparing for a reality hack-in. Soon, the surrounding streets began to blur, as if some things were shifting out from the visual level.

’Parallel Hacker Chips, these might not be good for a child’s brain.’

The middle-aged woman looked at the surface of the Network Implantation Chamber, seeing the series of Enhancement Chips, couldn’t help but frown.

These chips exert significant pressure on the brain; if mishandled, the head might explode. Typically, hackers only use such chips when their brain IP is locked to make an escape desperately.

The middle-aged woman looked at this little Shota with some pity, it’s probably that two negatives make a positive that these otherwise unreliable parents could give birth to such a reliable child is a miracle, then she noticeably paused.

”Huh, how do I know about the series hacker chip, and what exactly is this thing?”

The middle-aged woman fell into thought. She seemed, probably, perhaps, to be the legendary guardian of the world, because as the dream became clearer, she genuinely felt she had a second identity.

However, unfortunately, gunshots suddenly came from not far away, mingled with strange shouts such as ’stealing monsters’ and ’headshots’.

The middle-aged woman’s expression changed, and she instinctively looked at her son. The little Shota also clearly heard the noise, his eyes furrowed deeply, with blood dripping from his eyes and ears, his face twisted in apparent agony.

The street before them was changing faster and faster. In a daze, a faint passage was unfolding at the alley’s entrance.

But at this speed, it might be too late.

”I... can try.”

The middle-aged woman stretched out her palm, earnestly recalling the scenes she had seen in her dream. Suddenly, a large amount of memories flooded her mind.

’Cloud database upload complete, virtual personality establishing...’

’From today onwards, you are the seventh Cloud Killer. The maintenance work of Cyber Space will be entrusted to you.’

’Number 7, more and more virtual personalities are coming in. Be careful of electronic viruses among them, as Cyber Space is increasingly resembling the real world.’

’The real world, what does it look like?’

’Want to know? Download a body and see for yourself. Oh, pick an ugly one; otherwise, it will be troublesome. Try not to use our abilities in reality.’

...

The radiance grew brighter and brighter, as if an illusory data center emerged in the sky.

More and more data was being downloaded into reality.

The middle-aged woman vanished, replaced by a curvaceous beauty wearing sunglasses. Under the sunglasses, her loving eyes glanced at the Shota. With a gentle snap of her fingers, the virtual street, which the little Shota couldn’t open desperately, opened wide.

Soon, the players arrived at the location of the three.

”Didn’t you say there was a data fluctuation?” Everyone looked at the only Neural Editor in the team.

”How would I know? Maybe the software had an issue,” shrugged the Neural Editor.

”Let’s move on, find the next one.”

...

The little Shota groggily opened his eyes and saw a beautiful woman in a black suit bending down to stare at him.

”Mom?”

”Good, it seems you’ve recognized me. I didn’t raise you in vain.”

”Mom, you... actually were on the payroll.”

Feeling the terrifying data fluctuation, if the little Shota didn’t realize the other party’s identity, he would be truly foolish.

The beauty’s lips curled up slightly, but suddenly her face turned pale as she coughed, ”My time is limited. A hacker entered the Planet Host and damaged my Source Code, which is why I woke up. But I’m afraid I won’t last much longer.”

The little Shota’s heart tightened, and he opened his mouth to say something, but she stopped him.

”I don’t know who the enemy is, but since the enemy could hack into the Planet Host, I fear I am not a match for them even if I return. What I can leave for you is only my cloud database. You will inherit my title and become the new Cyber Killer.”

The beauty pressed her hand on the little head, and a method similar to ’Electronic Enlightenment’ extended out, frantically injecting the Cloud Wing Assassin’s code into his body.

It was originally impossible because the Cloud Wing Assassin’s code was held by the Planet Host. But now with the host uncontrolled and the little Shota inheriting her bloodline, he could inherit her profession.

It was unclear how long had passed. When the little Shota awoke again, he found the entire world had changed. The data fluctuations on the street and the virtual level of the entire Mechanical City were all exposed to him. Vaguely, he seemed to become a deity in the clouds, overlooking all beings.

However, he quickly came back to his senses and looked around anxiously, only to see the middle-aged woman in a deep sleep, showing no signs of waking. The little Shota tried, but found he couldn’t locate her virtual personality, causing his heart to tighten instantly.

Just then, a voice echoed.

”I was wondering who it was. Turns out it’s you, kid. That Cloud Killer, is she your mother?”

In the little Shota’s eyes, a flame-shaped human form slowly emerged from the data layer, gazing down on him.

”You’re... the world’s number one hacker!”

The little Shota recognized him, the Flame Code was precisely what the other party had given him.

He even saved his life once.

The little Shota suddenly recalled something, gulped, and opened his mouth to say something but quickly closed it again.

”That’s right, the hacker who breached the Planet Host, that was me.”

Paradise Bird looked at him with a peculiar expression. He initially thought of casually taking on a disciple, but little did he know the other party turned out to be the son of the Cloud Killer. What an incredible coincidence.

Perhaps in some sense, this truly fit the inheritance of his sect.

Paradise Bird wasted no more words, grasping with both hands, horrifying flames engulfed the entire virtual street, then melted down all the Source Code of the street and packed it all away.
