Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 244: Chapter 244: The Gap Between People, Really Bigger Than Between Humans and Dogs

Approaching the pillar, the black energy was still permeating the air, and a nearly transparent wall blocked these roaring masses of darkness.

After a short while, as if acting on some command, the black energy stopped roaming and dispersing aimlessly. Instead, it began to converge in the middle, reforming into a massive black bubble.

All returned to calm, as if nothing had happened.

”Kaka said that as long as one is human, they can easily pass through the barrier. What we need to be wary of are the fairies that have been devoured by the black bubble and turned into Corruptors,” Yang Yu gave his final instructions to Bai Jin and Iyas.

”I have Kaka’s permission. If a Corruptor attacks us, don’t hesitate to completely annihilate it.”

Bai Jin and Iyas nodded. They had seen what Yang Yu had done and knew how to locate the Core within the Corruptors.

Each Core seemed to have the bloodline of a Saiyan with the principle of ”if not destroyed, it will continue to grow stronger.” If you couldn’t defeat it, it would only become more powerful.

This made Bai Jin and Iyas realize they couldn’t be careless. They had already decided that once inside the barrier, they would be on full alert and eradicate the Corruptors one by one.

Before the black bubble was sealed, many fairies had been devoured. That portion of fairies was doomed to become Corruptors who could never return, monster puppets driven by the black bubble.

Yang Yu’s gaze remained intently fixed on the calm black bubble, and he took a deep breath.

The fact that the black bubble could manipulate puppets also meant it possessed a certain self-awareness, rather than mindlessly spawning monsters like dumplings being dropped into a pot.

What if the black bubble deliberately conserved its forces, lured us deeper in, and then released all its power at once? How should we face the enemy then?

However, the odds of that scenario were small and perhaps shouldn’t be considered.

After all, judging by the rewards of the task, it should only be considered an ordinary mission.

Since it was an ordinary task, it shouldn’t be too difficult.

The task panel spelled out in black and white that the objective was to complete the sealing, and it did not specify helping the fairies to completely eliminate the black energy.

That is to say, completing the sealing to temporarily quell the disaster and completely eradicating the black energy to end the calamity might be intended to be separated into two tasks, one leading right into the next, forming a series of tasks.

If this type of task wasn’t triggered by oneself, there’s a good chance that after perfectly completing the sealing task, it might be proposed unilaterally by the King of Elves. It could be a choice to accept or reject.

That was good news.

This also meant that after completing the sealing, one could immediately obtain the coveted Racial Essence from the hands of the King of Elves, breaking the level cap, and perhaps, the subsequent tasks could bring one straight back up to the level cap.

The more he thought about it, the more excited Yang Yu became, and he couldn’t wait to stuff the scroll in his hand into a part of the black bubble, aiming straight for the heart, making this long and thick thing bloom within the black bubble into a large cluster of white, of the Sealing Array, and bury all the blackness underground.

No longer hesitant, Yang Yu led his team unimpeded into the barrier.

This time, the black bubble showed no reaction and hung high in the air. Beneath it was a pool of black liquid, from which bubbles continuously rose, floated up, and merged with the black bubble suspended in mid-air.

The surroundings were deadly silent—no chirping insects, no birdsong, not a speck of green—just a bleak scene left in the aftermath of a disaster.

But it wasn’t devoid of movement.

The black lake gently swayed, stirring ripples. Then, a spherical head gradually emerged, as if someone were walking slowly up from the bottom of the lake. The figure in the water became clearer and clearer until, finally, a two-meter-tall silhouette stood at the edge of the lake.

It had no face, just a body colored in black, with long, slender limbs; its arms were so lengthy that they touched the ground even when standing upright.

The appearance of this Corruptor served as a signal. Three identical silhouettes burst forth from the surface of the lake, their bodies dripping with a thick, black liquid that seemed about to fall yet never did.

These four dark figures, dragging their elongated bodies, began stepping toward Yang Yu. Their fingernails grew longer and longer, until they resembled swords implanted at the tips of their fingers.

One step, two steps, three steps, four—without warning, the four shadows, like wild horses that had thrown off their reins, charged at Yang Yu with their long arms flailing.

”Bai Jin, use the Ice Cone Skill and cover as the situation demands. Iyas, shoot your arrows wherever you feel there might be a Core. You have to believe in your own luck.”

”Hey! Your instructions are too vague! I don’t think I can hit their Cores just by relying on luck!”

Iyas had barely finished speaking when Yang Yu grabbed his Shield and charged toward the four shadows. As a qualified tank, he had to draw aggro, control the distance between the monsters and his teammates, enabling them to safely dish out maximum damage.

Containing four shadows at once was difficult. In the scarcity of control options, it became even harder, but Yang Yu was fearless.

These shadows were at Level forty-three, which might appear incredibly fast, but their Speed was just over a hundred. With this Speed, Yang Yu could exploit the difference, weaving in and out among the shadows, using their attacks to fill up his aggro meter.

Before his Sword Blade even touched any of the four shadows, Bai Jin’s Ice Cone Skill preemptively slowed their movements. Yang Yu took advantage of the chilling air to maneuver among the four, dealing scrape-like damage.

”Talk about trusting in my own luck; I’ve never felt lucky! If I were, I wouldn’t have encountered that incident!”

With dissatisfaction in her brow, Iyas drew her Bow and arrow, knowing that the vulnerabilities of these shadows weren’t obvious, and that only the destruction of their Cores would kill them completely.

Pinpointing a Core was an extremely troublesome task. Iyas didn’t believe that she could just pick a spot at random, shoot an arrow, and effortlessly shatter the shadow’s Core.

But she still followed Yang Yu’s instructions and shot randomly. She released the bowstring, and a golden arrow sliced through the air.

One shadow, waving its scythe-like arms, lunged at the Shield that Yang Yu had raised high. But before its attack could land, Iyas’s arrow had firmly pierced through its forehead.

The shadow instantly crumbled to pieces, dissipating into black mist.

Yang Yu was speechless for a moment. He had intended for Iyas to try her luck while using her dense and random attacks to gradually locate the Core, but he never expected that Iyas would hit the bullseye on her first try, instantly destroying a shadow.

Was this what they called the power of a Luck Emperor?

He had previously fought so hard to determine the location of the Core, yet the Luck Emperor needed only one shot to shatter someone else’s Core...

Wasn’t that just absurd?
