Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Spreading Rumors is Easy, Dispelling Them Takes Great Effort

”Lady Tico, this is sudden, but may I presume to ask how you discussed the relationship between you and me with your mother last night?

It’s important, and it would be best if you could repeat every word of every sentence you said, as that will help me understand the context of the matter.”

Yang Yu was serious as he emphasized the importance, trying to gather information from Tico as much as possible.

Tico didn’t choose to hide anything from Yang Yu, ”Here’s what happened: I had just gotten home last night when my mother used Teleportation Magic to come back and questioned me about what the relationship between you and me was. I responded like this...

’I am the object of his admiration. At first, I was also surprised, but after talking to him in detail, I realized he was serious. So, I accepted his feelings.’

Then, my mother asked me, ’Do you like him?’

My answer was, of course, affirmative. Being adored by one’s own fan naturally comes with the obligation to reciprocate that adoration.”

Later on, my mother asked me some bizarre questions, and I answered each of them.

If you’d like to know, I can tell you everything.”

”Please do tell me.”

At Yang Yu’s request, Tico recounted everything that had happened the previous night.

The more Yang Yu listened, the uglier his expression became. Tico’s answers and her mother’s questions were all quite ambiguous. There was no common subject, and Tico didn’t really make it clear that Yang Yu was just a fan. Tico and her mother had another weird cross-server chat.

From Tico’s answers, anyone could see that she was emphasizing that Yang Yu was an important person to her.

On the surface, there seemed to be no problem, but in reality, the problem was quite significant. Combining this with what had been reported in the newspapers, this was essentially an admission of her feelings of romantic interest in Yang Yu.

The last thing he wanted to happen had still happened.

The ambiguity of Tico’s answer led her parents to believe she had fallen for Yang Yu, and they were dead set on making Yang Yu their son-in-law.

This was going to be troublesome.

Yang Yu’s words this morning were tantamount to an implicit admission that he treasured Tico very much, indicating he had feelings for her.

To unravel this misunderstanding, he would have to have another face-to-face conversation with Tico’s mother.

And such a conversation carried great risk. Tico’s mother so readily offering her daughter showed that she wanted Tico to follow a fine man, to protect the naive Tico from being whisked away by some unknown suitor.

Though he didn’t want to admit it, by the looks of it, he seemed to be the exact show-stopper.

The kind of catch that, if let slip away, would likely leave Tico’s parents in tears, fainting in the restrooms. Thus, there was a good chance that Tico’s parents would disregard his explanations and go along with the rumors, letting things proceed until it was too late, and forcefully pushing for marriage.

Although he still didn’t know Tico’s stance on the matter, judging by her personality, if the above situation did indeed occur, she would likely follow her parents’ wishes to a certain extent.

If things continued to develop in that direction, the false rumors would become true.

No, he absolutely had to prevent such an outcome.

He didn’t want to set a ”flag” such as ”After this battle, I’ll go home to see my child’s face” or ”When the battle is over, I am going to marry and settle down.”

With his kind of bad luck, setting that kind of flag would surely lead to his doom on the battlefield.

Just as Yang Yu was trying hard to think of ways to prevent the situation from escalating, Tico suddenly spoke up as if she had remembered something:

”It’s not just my father who wants to meet you; my teacher also seems to want to meet you. My mentor asked me to tell you that if you have time, you must visit him.”

Not only her parents but also Tico’s teacher wanted to meet him?

As the saying goes, once a teacher, always a father figure.

Tico was one of the top geniuses at the Library, surely having received a lot of attention from her mentor. Perhaps, her mentor treated her like his own daughter. It would be perfectly reasonable for him to want to meet this prospective son-in-law.

Anyone qualified to train a genius was definitely a real genius within the Library. Such a big shot was not to be trifled with. Facing him, Yang Yu would have to spill the whole story.

Yang Yu was already getting a headache. In a more typical RPG game, to quell such rumors, one would simply run about passing messages, defeating the mastermind behind the misinformation.

But in this game, the rumor clearly stemmed from someone’s wild imagination, so there was no plotline involving running about to deal with a hidden mastermind.

If he wanted to dispel the rumor, he would have to think through the dialogue himself, point out all the flaws in the rumor, and convince others to help dispel it as well.

It really was as the saying goes: a lie scribbled down, truth runs on broken legs.

Taking a deep breath and trying to keep his composure, Yang Yu said, ”I understand. If I find the time, I’ll make sure to visit him.”

”If you wish to visit during the day, come to our classroom; if at night, go to the Fifth Book Reading Room on the forty-sixth floor of the First Skyscraper Library.

However, you’ve just joined the Library and are not a Star-level Member, so you don’t have access to that place. I can bring you to the forty-sixth floor, but it would cause quite a bit of trouble. It’s best to visit during the day in the classroom.

Bai Jin knows where our classroom is; you can ask her.

Also, I have to remind you, my teacher may seem strange, but he is actually a very gentle person. Don’t be shocked by his appearance – it changed after he gained his Strength.”

If there were others here witnessing this scene, they would be surprised to see the typically lazy genius talking non-stop like an ordinary girl.

In fact, Keke Ai had noticed that the usually indolent Tico became so ordinary when chatting with Yang Yu and therefore firmly believed that there was something significant between them, which prompted her to add a hefty dose of spice to the story and write that article.

Little did they know, the birth of a rumor was that simple.

”I understand. When I have the time, I’ll visit.”

Yang Yu paused and his eyes suddenly became stern. In the end, he decided to inform Tico about the Library report, strengthening her convictions to prevent her parents from going with the flow.

”Next, I should explain why I’m looking for Tico. Lady Tico, a major incident has occurred in the Library, which may affect your personal reputation.

I learned of this news suddenly as well, and to protect your reputation, I hope you will listen carefully to each word I say and remain calm.”
