Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 240: Chapter 240: It’s a Deal, No Backing Out

Not long after they met, Yang Yu threw out a temptation that Kaka found hard to refuse, even doubting if he had heard wrong.

”This person, he actually said he wants to help us overcome the Darkness...”

Is he really trustworthy?

Could he be trying to gain our trust, only to capture us all at once?

Noticing that Kaka had been silent for a while, Yang Yu smiled and continued,

”Your Majesty, I know what you are thinking. Your concerns are not unfounded. If I were you, I would probably think the same. It seems that only by thoroughly explaining our reasons for being here can I put Your Majesty at ease.

To be honest, we are adventurers, driven by profit. As long as the reward is sufficient, we will take on anyone’s commission and travel far and wide to complete tasks.

Now, hearing that Fairyland is facing a crisis, we certainly won’t miss this opportunity to make a huge profit.

I wonder if Your Majesty will give us this chance to get rich.”

Yang Yu’s candid revelation of his purpose actually earned him quite a few favors from Kaka.

Having waited for someone from the Library to come down for too long was too passive. Honestly, Kaka was fed up with the Library’s attitude of not treating them like humans.

They had always been dedicated and diligent for the Library.

Why must they continue to be beholden to the whims of the Library?

”Let’s talk about your terms. If we can’t accept them, then let’s not bother.”

Demanding sky-high prices here might get you chased out by the fairies.

With a restrained smile, Yang Yu said,

”I don’t ask for much. You fairies should have Racial Essence. It wouldn’t hurt to share some with me. With that substance, I would go through fire and water with all my heart. If not, you name a price, and let’s see how much you value our work. If it seems fair to us, we’ll get right to work.”

”Racial Essence?” Hearing this term, Kaka frowned, pondered for a moment, and eventually spoke his mind, ”Racial Essence, originally, is meant to concentrate a race’s strength to create a more powerful individual to deal with dangers. It is quite popular among many races.

Unfortunately, Racial Essence seems to be ineffective for us. We have tried to produce Racial Essence before, trying to concentrate the power of our race into a few individuals. But, perhaps because of our own ability for Magic Power resonance, our bodies cannot accept the pooled Racial Essence; it only causes the energy of the Racial Essence to dissipate into the air.

So, we gave up on using Racial Essence. But if you really need it, we can focus our power to create it for you.”

”Deal. Don’t think about backing out.”

Hearing that the fairies had Racial Essence, Yang Yu could hardly contain his smiles, instantly sealing the deal and leaving the King of Elves no chance to back out.

Finally, Yang Yu saw another opportunity to break through the Level cap.

With the Level cap increased, Yang Yu would no longer need to worry about wasting Experience.

In fact, as soon as Yang Yu saw the special reward, he had thought about whether he could make the King of Elves’ Gift a fixed Fairy Racial Essence by persuading him.

He just hadn’t expected the King of Elves to agree so promptly.

Checking the System, the Task panel had undergone several changes, and the special reward entry was transformed into ”Fairy Racial Essence”.

”By the way, Your Majesty,” Yang Yu said. ”I have something useful here that might help you.”

He retrieved a Revive Elixir from the System and toyed with it, smiling as he spoke,

”This potion can instantly heal any abnormal status or multiple injuries. If possible, I would like to use this potion as an advance on my reward. Using the Fairy Racial Essence to enhance myself would increase the likelihood of successfully completing the task.”

Despite the Revive Elixir depleting with each use, Yang Yu couldn’t help but take it out as a bargaining chip to establish a connection with the King of Elves.

The King of Elves also had a faint icon above him.

Yang Yu knew that the King of Elves must have been affected by that black bubble; the bandages wrapped around his hand might be sealing the wound caused by that dark sphere, and the potion he held was just what the king needed.

If he could gain the King of Elves’s trust with the potion, Yang Yu could advance his reward and achieve a level upgrade.

However, Kaka refused Yang Yu.

After using the Racial Essence, the users might acquire some characteristics of that race, and Kaka could not guarantee that Yang Yu wouldn’t be corrupted by the Darkness.

Looking at the potion in his hand, Yang Yu was not disheartened, as he was merely trying.

The King of Elves’s attitude towards humans was the same as other fairies’; one could not expect to gain his trust by simply offering gifts.

Storing the potion back into the System, suddenly, Yang Yu heard a deep sound from afar followed by thin trails of black smoke rising from a point on the horizon.

Hearing the loud noise, Kaka immediately became restless.

Sisi looked at Kaka worriedly, knowing what had happened, yet hesitating whether to reveal it.

”Your Majesty...”

”Don’t speak! I understand! Who is it this time? Such things have never happened before, nor has the corruption spread this fast. What went wrong!”

Kaka’s smile immediately turned into a look of worry, and it flapped its wings, flying up high, gazing at the trailing black smoke,

”Though I’d like to entertain you, it seems there isn’t leisure for that. Follow me! Let me show you, what kind of Darkness you are up against.”

Vibrating its wings, Kaka transformed into a bright Light Sphere and flew away without looking back.

Sisi fluttered his wings and positioned in front of Yang Yu and the rest, ”I hope His Majesty doesn’t overexert himself. If possible, I hope you can offer your aid to His Majesty. I don’t have much to give you, but I will work hard later to repay your kindness.”

After saying this, Sisi followed right after, swaying his wings side to side, chasing after Kaka.

Iyas and Bai Jin exchanged glances, still hesitating, but Yang Yu followed without a second thought, forcing Iyas and Bai Jin to quickly catch up by following his disappearing figure.

On the other side of the horizon, a building resembling a hospital appeared in Yang Yu’s sight.

At that moment, a black creature, similar to a Slime, climbed onto the hospital’s rooftop, its black body continuously emitting a dark mist into the air.

The closer they got, the more clearly Yang Yu could hear the black creature’s continuous, painful, and mournful howls.

When Yang Yu and the others drew within a certain range, the Slime-like dark entity suddenly seemed to receive a signal; it transformed in the blink of an eye, sprouting robust limbs. Its black body became angular and twisted, morphing into a pitch-black mink. It growled deeply, warning them not to come any closer.
