Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 232: Chapter 232 I Feel Uncomfortable All Over

During that period, uncontrollable demons wreaked havoc within the Library, and no matter what the Monster Tamers did, they were unable to stop them.

At that time, over half of the Library’s upper echelons were mobilized before they could barely maintain the situation.

As for the cause of the incident, the All Things Library consistently claimed to the public that the event was due to the Monster Tamers’ improper management of the demons and even apprehended a certain ”mastermind” behind it all.

The All Things Library heavily criticized this mastermind, saying they led a deviant trend and incited the incident, effectively making an example by killing a chicken to scare the monkeys.

This explanation was simple and yet effective, gaining universal acceptance from the outside world; the Library went with the flow, promising to strengthen management and strictly control every Monster Tamer.

In the end, the Library expelled other Monster Tamers for their improper management of demons and established even more stringent rules.

If Monster Tamers wished to become part of the Library again, not only would they have to undergo reassessment, but they also had to sign a draconian agreement.

This did not dampen the enthusiasm of Monster Tamers applying for the Library; in fact, instead of decreasing, the number of Library Monster Tamers surged exponentially.

Many Monster Tamers thought that the Library’s requirements were stringent, which meant they no longer had to worry about their own demons conflicting with those of others, and they flocked to join the Library.

Numerous Monster Tamers who had nowhere else to go even spent their entire fortunes seeking shelter in the Library.

This situation continued until it changed nineteen years ago.

On a certain day nineteen years ago, demons strolling in the Library suddenly lost all reason as if struck by some Magic Curse, no longer obeying their masters’ commands and beginning to wreak indiscriminate havoc, as if each searched for something, burrowing relentlessly into the ground.

The All Things Library’s response was not as mild as the first time but was incredibly bloodthirsty; they gathered all the crazed demons together for a thorough massacre and burned the bodies to ashes.

To see one’s companions, who had been together day and night, silenced and turned to ashes by others – such an outcome was unacceptable to anyone.

Therefore, shortly after the massacre of the demons, a massive protest erupted at the All Things Library.

Countless Monster Tamers held up signs, demanding justice relentlessly beneath the Sky-reaching Library.

But as you know, the All Things Library was too massive, and these protesters were like eggs against a rock, achieving nothing. They attempted other forms of rebellion, but without their demons, they were quickly suppressed unilaterally by the Library.

The conclusion of the matter was cruel.

Many Monster Tamers left the Library under its ”great beneficence,” swearing never to come near the Library again.

Some Monster Tamers... their demons were like family to them; they wrote pledges in their own blood, then with their own deaths, hoped to draw the Library’s attention...

At this point, Ying Luo lowered her head; it was indeed a dark period.

To be honest, by the time Ying Luo had investigated this far, she began to feel a sense of despair. She never imagined that the All Things Library, which had always revered knowledge, could be so indifferent toward Monster Tamers.

Maybe, in their eyes, a Monster Tamer’s demon was no different from an ordinary object.

However, even an inconspicuous little thing, as long as it held memories, could become a priceless treasure.

The value of an object should never be judged by others, but determined by oneself.

Monster Tamers and Demons, through their extended companionship, had long since forged deep bonds, bonds that even resembled the ordinary friendships found among Humans.

They firmly believed that, with a sincere heart, Humans and Demons could become companions who understood each other.

Of course, Ying Luo didn’t expect everyone to understand the thoughts of Monster Tamers like themselves.

She had to admit that there were many ferocious Demons in the world, those that threatened human survival and had to be completely eradicated.

The approach of the All Things Library was much too sweeping, regarding Demons merely as tools for Monster Tamers’ use... Such a generalization was too crafty.

If among Humans, there were also those who committed arson, murder, and looting, could one then argue that Humans were a race with inherent wickedness?

Thus, when Ying Luo uncovered this point in her investigation, she was very dissatisfied with the Library’s method and even somewhat regretted having joined the All Things Library.

But Ying Luo, hoping against hope, ultimately chose to stay.

Nineteen years ago, the incident had been the second wave of brief chaos, following a long period of sustained peace after the first chaos, a time during which similar events hadn’t occurred again.

It was precisely for this reason that Ying Luo stayed at the All Things Library, unwittingly burying a bomb beneath herself that might explode at any moment.

However, she never imagined that the explosion of this bomb would come so abruptly.

Faced with Yang Yu, Ying Luo laid bare everything on her mind, continuing to relay all she knew.

She attempted to delve further into the investigation behind the reasons, visiting many who had lived through the tragedy nineteen years prior, and from their accounts, Ying Luo obtained some very strange information.

”A breeze that seemed like a shadow gently blew by; the Demons that appeared fine before suddenly became violent and uncontrollable.”

”What’s more terrifying is that even if they hadn’t come into contact with that breeze, merely looking at it from a distance would still cause the Demons to become violent.”

...

Such information was plentiful.

Ying Luo had a premonition that this wind was the primary cause of the Demons’ rampaging, and she began to investigate this peculiar breeze as if grasping at the last straw.

After arduous efforts, she came across a piece of incredibly unbelievable information: these gray winds seemed to seep out from underground.

According to an uncle who was digging a basement, whenever he dug downward, the basement would for some reason fill with mysterious gray mist. As soon as he inhaled that mist, unpleasant memories would flood his mind, leaving him feeling miserable; the uncle took it as a sign and hastily buried the newly-dug basement again.

After much hustle and bustle, she finally gleaned some clues. Just when Ying Luo wished to continue her investigation and seek a solution, someone from the Library found her and halted all her inquiries.

...

By now, Ying Luo had told Yang Yu everything she knew.

”There must be something lurking beneath this All Things Library, and the Library’s higher-ups are continually covering up its existence, even at the cost of making us Monster Tamers the scapegoats, treating Demons as disposables. Our bad reputation as Monster Tamers also mainly stems from this.”

Clutching her hands tightly, Ying Luo despised the behavior of the Library and silently made up her mind—if Lot could emerge unscathed, they would immediately leave the Library in search of a safe place to live on.
