Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 220: Chapter 220: Despair Devour

Yang Yu casually flipped through He Meng’s status bar. Although He Meng had returned to normal, the icons on its body had not disappeared but had instead become a few shades darker.

Similar incidents would surely happen again, and the only way to ensure safety was to restrict He Meng’s movements.

So, Yang Yu took out a jar and stuffed He Meng back into it.

The whole process was anything but simple, as He Meng firmly opposed being stuffed into the narrow jar again.

Upon seeing the jar in Yang Yu’s hand, unpleasant memories flooded He Meng’s mind. While confined in the jar, it couldn’t move and even had to endure the medicinal herbs prepared by Bai Jin.

To avoid being stuffed into the jar again, He Meng even transformed to produce two small short arms and crossed them in front of itself in a symbolic gesture of resistance.

Thankfully, Bai Jin was there.

Bai Jin told He Meng everything that had happened. In the end, He Meng reluctantly agreed to cooperate and squeezed into the jar with a look of distaste.

He Meng had always shamelessly followed Yang Yu, leeching off his experience and had carelessly leveled up to Level 52. Not only that, its Defense and Magic Resistance were frighteningly high, and its Strength and Speed far exceeded those of ordinary adventurers. Placed on the map, it could definitely become a minor boss.

If He Meng wanted, it could break the wretched glass jar at any time.

Thus, Yang Yu had never truly expected the jar to be capable of confining He Meng. His reason for doing so was because keeping He Meng in the glass jar would allow him to monitor its status at all times.

If he noticed an anomaly, Yang Yu could immediately take advantage of the moment He Meng broke free from the jar to prepare for defense.

That was the objective reason.

As for the subjective reason...

To be honest, Yang Yu just wanted to give He Meng a good thrashing.

Ever since He Meng’s Favorability became negative, it stopped paying any attention to him, treating him like a public cafeteria. When hungry, it would scamper over, and once full, it wouldn’t even glance at Yang Yu and would immediately throw itself into Bai Jin’s arms, unwilling to stay even a minute longer with Yang Yu.

You see, when you take care of a feline master, the master, in a good mood, will allow you a few strokes, soothing your body and soul.

But as for Yang Yu, he felt he was raising an ungrateful wolf.

Thus, Yang Yu had long been looking for an opportunity to legitimately bully He Meng and make it recognize who was the true master.

This was a rare opportunity—as the saying goes, ”Once you miss this village, there won’t be another shop like it.”

What if the relationship with He Meng improved later? Then he wouldn’t be able to bully He Meng so openly anymore.

He didn’t want the hard-earned Favorability that He Meng had just begun to show to decrease again, so he needed to take advantage of He Meng’s low Favorability to bully it as much as he could, in order to nurture their relationship.

Now, with such a good opportunity before him, how could Yang Yu miss it?

”Bai Jin, we’re going out. Go call Iyas, tell her to follow and if she has any questions, tell her not to ask. I’ll explain it to her afterward.”

Without saying much, Bai Jin tacitly stepped outside and knocked on Iyas’s door.

Iyas was bleary-eyed but quickly adjusted her state, armed with her bows and arrows, and wordlessly followed Yang Yu.

Their destination was clear: Yingluo Villa.

As a creature, the anomaly experienced by He Meng indicated that a vast creature like Lotcar would be affected sooner or later.

He Meng and Lotcar were different kinds of creatures, and Yang Yu could not yet determine the impact of the current event on both.

But with many things still unclear, He Meng was the sole reference. The more pronounced the icon on its body, the more powerful the unknown mystical force became.

Even without knowledge of Lotcar’s resistance to this mystical force, the ever-growing power would surely cause Lotcar to lose its sanity.

Once the towering Lotcar lost control, it could easily destroy a building, causing irreversible damage, and it would certainly be quickly targeted by the Library’s Law Enforcement Team for extermination.

Moreover, Ying Luo was just an ordinary human. If Lotcar attacked Ying Luo in the same way it attacked He Meng, Ying Luo might very well vanish from this world forever.

It was imperative to inform Ying Luo of the cause before disaster struck, to prepare her for defense.

Yang Yu would not allow the task at hand to fail if the NPC cooled off this early.

They rushed out of the dormitory. The sun, covering itself with the blanket of stars, hid beyond the horizon. The faint light only dispelled the thick darkness and did not fully disperse the chill of the dark night. The streets were deserted as Yang Yu and his companions started running, letting the cold wind slap against their faces.

Yang Yu had memorized the route from the dormitory to Yingluo Villa. Taking the shortest path to Yingluo’s villa was a piece of cake.

Yet he was ultimately one step too late.

The thunderous noise echoed for a long time over the road ahead of them, followed by the sound of crumbling rocks from collapsing houses, bam after bam, incessantly assaulting their ears.

Villas nearby gradually lit up, their inhabitants waking from their slumber, unable to sleep due to the loud noises. They opened their windows one after another, looking toward the direction of the sounds.

They saw a giant wolf climb onto the roof of a villa, howling at the sky full of stars. That prolonged wolf howl, like a rooster’s crow at dawn, awakened even more people.

Even the residents of the Library district heard the howl.

They stopped what they were doing, all looking toward the Library, a bad omen brewing in their hearts, as if the events of nineteen years ago were about to replay.

From a distance, Yang Yu noticed an obvious new icon on Lotcar’s status bar.

”Darn, am I really one step too late?”

Looking at He Meng in the jar, becoming gradually more delirious, Yang Yu was taken aback, as it seemed larger demons were more easily affected than smaller ones.

Picking up the speed, the grey-black icon became clearer in Yang Yu’s eyes until at last he could tap the icon to read the information displayed.

”Despair Devour”????

The name was revealed, but the explanation of this status was covered in question marks.

Did he need to trigger some specific event in order to fully understand the effects of this status? This was going to be difficult.

Originally, Yang Yu had planned to deduce the content of the task based on the icon. It seemed that his plan was too naive.

Without understanding the changes brought by this status, it would be difficult to find a solution.

Fortunately, Lotcar’s attributes had not changed, and considering it was also afflicted with another curse, Yang Yu was confident that he could deal with Lotcar.

The only thing worth worrying about was Ying Luo’s safety.

Arriving in front of Yingluo’s villa, the once bright and beautiful villa was now shattered and damaged, with a big hole in the wall. Rubble piled in the courtyard, and the dust had yet to settle.

Yang Yu anxiously searched the ruins for Ying Luo’s voice, but Ying Luo was nowhere to be seen.

Just as Yang Yu was about to draw Lotcar’s attention, allowing Bai Jin and Iyas to go inside and search for Ying Luo, a loud and anxious voice came from around a corner they hadn’t noticed,

”Lotcar, it’s me, Ying Luo. Don’t you remember me anymore?”
