Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 237: Chapter 237 The Old Thousand-Layer Cake

”I remember, last time in the Underground Maze, you said the same thing, and nothing happened.”

The sharp gaze fixed on the fearless Yang Yu, Iyas asserted,

”This time is different from last time! This time, that thing feels even more evil... how can I describe this feeling. Anyway, we better leave quickly!”

You, blessed by the Holy Light MAX, sure have a lot of issues.

Getting scared half to death over such a trifle, what would you do if you met the Demon King, kneel down and sing ’Conquer’?

”It was hard enough to convince that fairy to open the gate and come to the Fairy Kingdom, don’t talk nonsense.”

Yang Yu shook his hands with a smile, continuing,

”This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Do you remember the special conditions for becoming an Advanced Member of the Library?

If we can earn merit for the Library, becoming an Advanced Member will be a blink of an eye. As Advanced Members, acquiring the knowledge we need will be as easy as flipping our hand.

Besides, if we don’t accomplish something, the fairies who let us in probably won’t let us out.”

”But...”

Silver Teeth biting, Iyas wanted to say more, but before she could, Yang Yu, as if sensing her thoughts, chuckled,

”Don’t worry. I know my limits. If we really encounter something we can’t handle, I’ll be able to run faster than you.”

That’s true...

Iyas was speechless, not knowing whether to call Yang Yu steady or plain annoying.

But.

Yang Yu’s words undoubtedly reassured her somewhat.

”Alright then, if anything happens, we retreat immediately.”

”Okay, okay. Retreat immediately. Retreat immediately.”

Yang Yu casually agreed with Iyas a few times and then opened the System interface.

Golden fairy icons appeared on the Status Bars of the three people and the Slime.

When they had fallen from the sky, Yang Yu had already noticed this icon.

Because of the icon’s style and golden color, it didn’t look harmful, so Yang Yu didn’t attend to it at the moment, but now, he finally had the time to check it.

——

[Guardian Barrier of Fairy Kingdom]

Level over 60 will be expelled from the barrier.

Age over 25 years will be expelled from the barrier.

Any attribute over 1000 will be adjusted to 1000.

Damage caused to fairies reduced by 50%.

——

Damn, isn’t this a real DEBUFF?

Why does the icon look so good, yet it adds no attributes and has restrictions? Isn’t this a trap?

Wait, for me, this might actually be a BUFF.

Such restrictions are definitely set out of fear that high-level humans will do whatever they want in the Fairy Kingdom.

Previously, the helpers sent by the Library must have been affected by this barrier, and under these restrictions, they could help the fairies solve problems and complete the Sealing.

This also means that even those of us with low attributes could very well complete this task.

Realizing this, Yang Yu showed a smile.

However, this scene’s BUFF stated that anyone over the age of twenty-five would be expelled from the barrier, so why hadn’t Iyas, the old granny, been expelled?

Curious, Yang Yu opened Iyas’s panel and found that, apart from those few conditions, the ”Guardian Barrier of the Fairy Kingdom” for Iyas had an additional line...

—This unit is an elf, age incalculable.

Is that even allowed?

Yang Yu was speechless for a moment, looking toward the sky that was no different from the outside world, his thoughts returning once again to the fairy’s barrier.

Perhaps, it was because of this barrier that the so-called Library competition existed.

Under the guise of the competition, they could select members capable of entering the Fairy Kingdom to help them complete the sealing and then receive gifts from the King of Elves.

The Library only needed to use ”You only get your reward after passing the final test” as an excuse to get the winners to help the fairies, essentially re-gifting and presenting the rewards obtained from the fairies as competition prizes, achieving a win-win without much cost.

The All Things Library really isn’t that stingy, right?

Considering this nature, if the issues of the Fairy Kingdom were truly resolved, the reward would certainly not be flowers and applause but unilateral condemnation from the Library.

Yang Yu had even thought of the condemnation reasons for them: blaming him for being too outstanding and depriving the Library of an opportunity to ”train” newcomers—how despicable!

What the All Things Library thought of him afterwards didn’t actually matter to Yang Yu, what he cared about was how to complete the task.

To achieve that, he had to first figure out what use that black bubble had.

So far, there hadn’t been any abnormal statuses affecting Yang Yu and the others, but the ”Despair Devour” icon on He Meng inside the jar had clearly brightened a few shades.

This aligned perfectly with Yang Yu’s thoughts that ”the sealed black bubble would still have effects” and ”these effects are minimal on humans but greater on demons.”

Perhaps, bringing He Meng to the Fairy Kingdom was a mistaken decision.

But, leaving him alone outside would be the real danger.

Another race against time strategy unfolded: if they took too long, He Meng might lose his self-awareness and become an enemy.

Pulling out a rope from the System, Yang Yu handed one end to Iyas.

Iyas tilted her head in confusion, ”What for?”

”Tie this rope around your waist, and then, go over there and check things out. If you encounter anything unusual, we’ll pull you back.”

Startled by Yang Yu’s bizarre idea, Iyas bluntly refused,

”I didn’t expect you to come up with such a bad idea! We still don’t understand what that black sphere is exactly; it’s too dangerous to approach rashly. I think we should find an informed fairy, get the clear details first, then act.”

”You’re finally talking sense. It seems the books over the past few days haven’t been read in vain. Too bad, your insight is still on the third floor while I’m on the fifth. You’ve seen through the first level, but missed the basement. Trust my judgment.”

Yang Yu shook the rope in his hand towards Iyas.

”Was I such a mess before? And stop saying things I don’t understand!”

Watching Yang Yu’s smile, Iyas was puzzled. Despite learning so much, she still couldn’t see through what Yang Yu was really thinking. Sullenly, she had no choice but to accept,

”Fine, I get it, it’s just checking out the situation. Can’t I do that? But, there’s no need to use a rope to constrict my waist, it actually makes it harder to move. If there’s really any danger, the rope could become a tripping hazard. Just give me a bottle of resurrection medicine, and if things feel off, I’ll run and drink it.”

”No problem. After all, the wool comes from the sheep, so it only makes sense for you to use it.”

Yang Yu generously took out a bottle of resurrection medicine from the system and tossed it to Iyas.

”Wool comes from the sheep? What do you mean?”

Catching the medicine bottle and examining the golden liquid inside, Iyas felt oddly familiar.

”It means nothing. Stop dawdling and get on with it!”
