Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 217: Chapter 217: An Unexpected Side

If Yang Yu were replaced by someone else, Tico didn’t know if she could treat him the same way she had treated Yang Yu.

In this world, everyone is born unique.

Just as Yang Yu had shown her admiration and respect, Tico had also developed a certain dependence on Yang Yu, deeply attracted by something about him.

It was precisely because she was aware of this in her heart that Tico had just made such an ambiguous remark, making the situation once again complex and confusing.

Seeing her daughter like this, Emily couldn’t help but be amused, ”Even if you don’t admit it verbally, deep down, you’ve noticed it and it shows involuntarily. Tico, you don’t have to be so covert. It’s a rare opportunity, so experience a life you’ve never lived before. I believe you can learn much more from him.”

”Mother, I’ve said it before, Yang Yu and I really aren’t in the relationship you imagine.”

Realizing that her stance wasn’t firm, Tico tried to salvage the situation but ended up back at square one. Yang Yu raised his hand, gesturing for Tico not to continue.

Emily stood up, picked up the teapot, and briskly poured Yang Yu a cup of tea,

”Yang Yu, you don’t have to go to such lengths to convince me. Don’t forget what you told me before; you said you’d climb mountains and cross seas for Tico. I can rest easy handing my daughter over to someone like you who loves her so much. You wouldn’t want some random man from who knows where to run off with her, would you?”

Yang Yu pushed the tea forward slightly, ”I did say something like that, yes, but it was for the sake of Lady Tico, not for you. If Tico can find the person she truly loves, I will silently wish her well. Please don’t call her future husband some ’random man.’”

”The problem is, my daughter seems to truly like you.” Emily’s cold gaze pierced Yang Yu’s spine, ”Or is it that my daughter isn’t good enough for you?”

The worst-case scenario had still occurred. Regardless of the truth or falsity of the rumors, it seemed Emily was determined to reel in this prosperous son-in-law.

The interrogation shifted the situation slowly in favor of Emily.

Unable to sit still, Tico ignored Yang Yu’s gesture and continued to try to correct what she’d just said, to try to recover, but it appeared that it was already too late.

No matter how Tico explained, Emily just smiled indifferently, continuously using non-verbal cues to tell Tico, you like him, you need to truly accept what’s in your heart.

After multiple unsuccessful attempts to explain, Tico could only look anxiously at Yang Yu. However, she didn’t see any sign of distress on his face, as if everything were under his control.

Picking up the black tea from the table and blowing on it near his lips, Yang Yu smiled,

”Madam, I would like to marry Tico. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to marry such a beautiful lady as Lady Tico. Now that you mention it, I realize I have no reason at all to refuse.”

Keke Ai and Tico’s mouths fell open in shock. They had thought that Yang Yu would go to great lengths to explain, but never imagined that he would accept so cleanly.

Was this his intention all along, and was everything still within his calculations?

As a reporter, Keke Ai listed all the possible thoughts of this man in her mind, but the more she listed, the more she realized that her thoughts were worlds apart from his.

Hanging her head in silence, Tico looked as if all the effort she had put into squashing the rumors had gone down the drain, with an indescribable bitterness reflected between her brows.

Her heart seemed to be telling her that she couldn’t go on like this, her life shouldn’t be so easily decided by others, it was something she could never accept.

She, too, wanted to live as freely as Yang Yu.

Her fingernails dug into her palm, and Tico bit her lip, wondering if her answer had been more resolute just now, would the outcome have been different?

As if seeing through all of Tico’s thoughts, Yang Yu grinned and went on to finish what he hadn’t quite said,

”But there’s a big premise, that is, Lady Tico must truly, from the bottom of her heart, want to be with me and want to be with me in this way. If she does not wish for this, as her mother, I hope you can respect her feelings!”

Turning his head towards Tico, Yang Yu gave her a smile,

”Lady Tico, can you tell me now what you really think? Would you like to be with me in this way?”

Every word Yang Yu spoke resonated with power and shook the soul.

Her lips trembling, Tico touched her chest, where her heart was pounding as if she had to express all her inner thoughts now or she would surely regret it later.

Tico’s long-suppressed emotions finally erupted at that moment.

”Mom, can you not decide my life’s path on your own! Ever since I was little, you always had your own plans. I had barely learned to speak when you started endlessly filling my head with knowledge of magic. Sure, I learned quickly, but that didn’t mean I had to study all magic. I wanted friends as a child, but because of you, I didn’t make any!

Even now, many still see me as lazy and aloof; hardly anyone wants to be my friend! If only you had approached things differently, I could have been approachable and made friends with many people.”

”The lazy part is actually true.”

”That’s your fault, too, Mom!”

”Eh? My fault?” Hearing this for the first time, Emily looked incredulously surprised, ”I don’t recall training you to be lazy.”

”It is your fault because you taught me so much that even if I mastered everything, you would have me review it periodically.

Do you understand? At first, even if the revisions were little, they add up as you keep learning.

Eventually, I could only pretend to lack enthusiasm for many things and show off my abilities, showing that I could perfectly control the magic power even without constant review.”

”This is the first time I’m hearing this... but it’s for your own good. I was afraid that you might forget some spells at a crucial moment.”

”I’m sick of hearing that. I’ll say it again! I’m no longer a kid!”

Tico and Emily had completely reversed their positions. With Tico’s heartfelt confession, her mother seemed more like a bewildered young girl.

”Hehe, who would have thought that the unparalleled genius of the All Things Library and Madam Emily had such lesser-known sides to them. This trip wasn’t in vain.”

Keke Ai’s lips curled into a smile, fantasizing about turning everything that happened here into a story and making a fortune.

But she was sternly glared at by Yang Yu, who made her quickly dismiss her little schemes.
