Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 231: Chapter 231: A Flash in the Pan

The reporter conference concluded perfectly, and one by one, the journalists left contentedly. They had obtained plenty of explosive news that was very likely to headline the next Library report.

Yet, the number of journalists attending the conference this time was unexpectedly high, meaning that the competition would be quite fierce.

Every journalist who came to the conference had considerable confidence in their writing ability. When content and writing style were roughly equal, editors tended to prioritize manuscripts that were submitted first. They had to race against time to go back, organize their materials, and write their pieces.

After the reporters dispersed, Emily enthusiastically invited Yang Yu to celebrate over dinner under the guise of a celebration.

Yang Yu’s brow furrowed slightly as he realized that there was more to it.

Sure enough, just as I thought, you’re really not giving up, Emily. If you keep trying to make me your son-in-law this eagerly, it would be really embarrassing for me.

Out of politeness, Yang Yu tactfully declined Emily’s invitation and then called Tico to head to the Judgement Court together.

After the performance that morning, Yang Yu had every reason to believe that some high-up figures in the Library had already set their sights on them.

If he did not bring along a powerful Magician to constantly check for magic surveillance, his conversation with Ying Luo could easily be leaked.

It was still unclear what kind of information Ying Luo would reveal, but it was always wise to be cautious.

Bai Jin clenched her fist in frustration as she faintly sensed the true reason Yang Yu brought Tico along.

These days, she had been diligently studying, but the more she learned, the more she realized the unbridgeable gulf between Tico and herself.

Tico was undoubtedly a magic prodigy, whereas she could only be considered a Magician with slightly above-average talent.

With her current strength, it was only natural for Yang Yu to worry about exposure and seek help from others...

Bai Jin lightly patted her stiffened face, reminding herself that she had already decided not to think about the mess of things and instead focus solely on improving herself. Yet, she inadvertently started caring about others’ affairs again.

She knew complaining here was pointless. During her time studying at the Library, she had to impress Yang Yu with her improvements and prove that she could be useful to the team.

Taking advantage of Tico’s Flying Magic, they returned to the base of the Fifth Sky Library.

Before entering the Judgement Court, Ying Luo opened a large umbrella to cover herself and Lotcar, protecting them from the harsh sunlight.

The large umbrella wasn’t brought by Ying Luo, but donated by a kind passerby.

With Ying Luo and Lotcar’s remarkable combination, anyone who had spent some time in the Library would know their story.

Most people, through their daily routines, understood Ying Luo was not malevolent and knew that she had been working hard to earn money to provide a safe place for herself and Lotcar to live.

The Library community tended to not dislike those who were hardworking.

Over the past five years, Ying Luo had helped many people, one way or another. When she faced difficulties, these same people were willing to lend a helping hand.

Ying Luo had wanted to refuse the donations from these kind people, but in the end, she couldn’t withstand their insistence and half-heartedly accepted their goodwill. Unwittingly, donated goods from Library members began to pile up like a small mountain next to Lotcar’s cage.

Using these resources, Ying Luo set up a tent at the entrance of the Judgement Court. She prepared to eat and sleep alongside Lotcar, not wasting the opportunity Yang Yu had fought for.

The Judgement Court also sent personnel to supervise, constantly monitoring Lotcar’s condition. They had tried persuading Ying Luo to leave but ended in failure every time. Eventually, seeing Ying Luo stubbornly set up the tent next to Lotcar’s cage, they gave up on continuing to persuade her and instead chose to monitor from a distance.

Approaching the cage near Lotcar, Yang Yu and Ying Luo greeted each other, with Tico also following suit in greeting Ying Luo.

Along the way, Yang Yu had explained everything to Tico from start to finish.

Tico deeply sympathized with Ying Luo’s experiences and offered to assist Yang Yu and his companions to prevent their conversation from being overheard.

Uttering a spell, a white glow traced a perfect circle in the plaza in front of the Judgement Court, and Tico easily constructed a barrier all around.

She would immediately detect any magic that tried to pass through the barrier.

Ying Luo knew that Tico’s willingness to help was all thanks to Yang Yu.

The two of them didn’t appear to have the kind of relationship that the rumors had suggested, and Ying Luo felt disgusted with herself for having once carelessly believed the newspaper gossip.

If one were to only listen to one side of a story, there was a very likely chance of missing out on many things.

Fortunately, Yang Yu had come to her aid without holding a grudge, helping her through the crisis.

If she had been alone, she feared she wouldn’t be able to chat and laugh with Yang Yu and the others right now.

Each time she thought about this, Ying Luo’s intention to lay out all the information she knew became firmer.

”As you know, the Library is extremely strict with Monster Tamers, but this strictness did not develop overnight; it evolved step by step to become what it is today.

Everything I’m about to tell you, I hope you can keep it confidential. Do not spread this information any further to avoid unnecessary trouble.”

Yang Yu nodded at Ying Luo, eager with anticipation. After such a long journey, he finally sensed the scent of the Task, and it was just one small step away from being in the palm of his hand.

After scanning the surroundings again to confirm no one was approaching, Ying Luo continued to speak.

It all started with the founding of the Library.

A very long time ago, no matter where you came from, poor or rich, whatever your occupation, the All Things Library treated everyone equally and was open to the public for free.

Monster Tamers were no exception.

Unfortunately, the prosperity of the All Things Library was as fleeting as a morning glory.

Over time, a series of operational problems of the All Things Library came to light, and in the end, sweeping reforms had to be undertaken.

The All Things Library began to discriminate against Monster Tamers from that time on.

With the reforms came a fee, and a new rule was added stipulating that Monster Tamers had to pay Gold Coins in proportion to the number of Demons they owned.

Initially, this treaty was resisted by many Monster Tamers, but the Library’s stance was resolute, and they did not change their decision, even adding a few more provisions with a sneer.

Some of these provisions are still in effect today.

One reason the Library discriminated against Monster Tamers was that there had been incidents of Monster Tamers’ Demons causing damage to the Library...

But more importantly, when Monster Tamers stayed in the Library with their Demons for an extended period, the Demons would gradually become more violent.

At first, this situation occurred occasionally in history, and not every Demon exhibited such behavior, but as time passed, the frequency of such incidents gradually increased, until it reached a peak during a certain period in history.
