Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Not afraid of a god-like opponent, but afraid of...

Yang Yu and his companions followed the Law Enforcement Team to the Judgement Court.

Located at the foot of the Fifth Sky Library, the Judgement Court greatly resembled a grand church, just like many of the classrooms used to educate and enlighten, and it was constructed from solemn, dignified obsidian and white quartz, which represented justice. Black and white intertwined, echoing each other, filled with a unique kind of harmony.

Upon entering, the interior structure of the Judgement Court wasn’t much different from a common courtroom, except that the number of seats for jurors far exceeded Yang Yu’s imagination, totaling over two thousand.

To highlight the fairness and impartiality of the trial, anyone who abided by the court’s rules was eligible to attend the hearing and had the right to question the outcome.

Yang Yu had caused quite a commotion in the middle of the night, and, as such, had recently become embroiled in a maelstrom of rumors, solidly becoming a celebrity of the Library.

Once people heard about it, they speculated, ”What’s with this guy? Looks like he’s going in—wait a second, judging by past situations, maybe he’s just brushing against the entrance without going in. Could it be that we’re about to witness history once again?” As a result, many onlookers came to watch, filling up the juror seats.

The trial process was not complicated; the Law Enforcement Team and the detainees positioned themselves on opposite sides to prepare, and once the four judges and the Judgment Chief officially took to the podium, the trial began.

Initially, the Law Enforcement Team believed that bringing Yang Yu and his group to the Judgement Court would relieve them of worry, and they provided their so-called evidence to the Judgment Chief in a careless and bold manner.

Yang Yu patiently waited for the Law Enforcement Team to submit their so-called evidence and testimony before slowly starting to refute each point.

This scene mirrored the debate they had had in front of Yingluo Villa.

Trying to rebut the Law Enforcement Team’s actions, Yang Yu openly admitted to the seductive elements in his words in front of everyone, again pointing out that the Law Enforcement Team had been well aware that such an incident would occur. Instead of issuing warnings, they chose to lie in wait, hoping to enhance their own achievements.

Yang Yu’s honesty contrasted sharply with the Law Enforcement Team’s indifference, immediately tipping public opinion to one side.

It’s you Law Enforcement Team members who started this inhuman conduct, so don’t blame others for not treating you as humans.

On one hand, people scorned the selfishness of the Law Enforcement Team; on the other, they praised Yang Yu’s honesty. Under such circumstances, all explanations from the Law Enforcement Team seemed feeble.

Seeing this turn of events, the Judgment Chief found himself in a difficult position.

Everything should have gone smoothly; the Law Enforcement Team would capture Lotcar and then send him to the ”Judgement Room” for isolation, choosing the moment for execution based on the situation.

Yet, it was beyond expectation that the Law Enforcement Team fell completely into Yang Yu’s trap, causing public opinion to side overwhelmingly with him.

Ultimately, it came down to the Law Enforcement Team being too arrogant for their own good.

They assumed they could benefit from the fishermen’s gains in the quarrels between snipes and clams, saving the effort of capturing the giant wolf with magic; however, this was instead seized by Yang Yu as an opportunity to perform a captivating sophistry. He focused on this incident to extensively highlight the Library Enforcement Team’s unfairness, thereby inciting public outrage.

These useless teammates had lived in too much comfort.

Believing that things could be done while lying down, there was no need to consider how to handle matters perfectly and meticulously.

It seemed necessary to have a serious talk with Jack Roger, to educate them thoroughly.

Nevertheless, the current direction of public opinion was no longer within the control of the Judgment Chief; he could only refocus his energies on the trial.

The regulations set by the Library were not rigid doctrines.

Following doctrines blindly opposed the pragmatic spirit of the All Things Library.

In delivering a verdict, the Judgment Chief had to refer to existing regulations and also take public opinion into account.

According to their story, what Yang Yu and the others did could, at most, be considered a civil dispute. A reprimand and education followed by a fine would have sufficed to conclude the matter.

Such a judgment would entirely fail to fulfill the Task granted to him by the upper echelons.

After much deliberation, the Judgment Chief tentatively put forth a preliminary decision.

The text was lengthy and roundabout, but essentially, although the Law Enforcement Team’s actions were problematic, they were not wrong. Therefore, Lotcar, Ying Luo, as well as Yang Yu and He Meng must be detained for a week as a warning to others.

This clearly biased decision, once announced, led to a public uproar.

More and more people became convinced that what Yang Yu said was right, so much so that a noisy group began accusing the Law Enforcement Team and Judgment Court of collusion, of wanting to convict whomever they wished with whatever charges they desired, and completely refused to accept the verdict.

As if expecting such a backlash, the Judgment Chief quickly altered the result of the trial, addressing the audience:

”But the Judgment Chief believes that the faults of the law enforcement officials outweigh the results they achieved. This issue should be dealt with leniency. However, there is currently no evidence to fully prove that Lotcar wasn’t unconscious at that time.

For the sake of safety and to prevent this giant wolf from causing further unrest on the streets, we have decided to place Lotcar in a cage under surveillance. If it shows no abnormalities during the monitoring period, it will be released.

As for Yang Yu and Ying Luo, considering the minor nature of the incidents, they will be subject to reprimands, education, and a moderate fine as punishment.”

The revised verdict was much easier for the masses to accept.

While they genuinely did not wish to be oppressed by the Law Enforcement Team, they also harbored a reverence for the formidable Lotcar and did not want this unpredictable giant wolf to threaten their lives.

As such, this ”compromise” decision was swiftly accepted by the public. The fact that neither Yang Yu nor Ying Luo suffered any serious punishment was enough to appease them.

Yang Yu squinted his eyes, inwardly applauding.

Throw out an absolutely unacceptable condition before negotiations, then present the real terms, making the public more likely to accept them, huh?

Worthy of being the Judgment Chief of the All Things Library—skillfully dissolving my side’s momentum while achieving his own purpose by imprisoning Lotcar in the Judgement Court.

To raise doubts now would likely lead to being lambasted by ”allies” happy to accept the terms. It was time to take advantage of a good situation.

Yang Yu smiled broadly, expressing that the judges had made a good decision. He then immediately proposed that everyone jointly supervise the situation to prevent any malefactors from coveting Lotcar’s beautiful fur and harboring sinister intentions.

The Judgment Chief wanted to reject Yang Yu’s proposal, but the present audience, still indignant at the Law Enforcement Team’s behavior, agreed with Yang Yu, seeing no issue with his proposal.

What had seemed like a certain victory turned out to be yet another advantage taken by Yang Yu.

Frowning deeply, the Judgment Chief eventually brought down his gavel hard, signifying agreement with the proposal.
