Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 714: Chapter 215 Background Story

Bai Quan received a call from Cheng Xinghai shortly after: ”Uncle Bai, Chen Ming agreed to participate.”

As Bai Quan was arranging for increased surveillance around Chen Ming’s dome, he thought secretly to himself, ”It’s finally happening.”

Recalling the Purgatory Core research report Chen Ming had provided him, Bai Quan calmed his emotions from recent troubling events and responded to Cheng Xinghai, ”I know, when exactly?”

”Chen Ming said tonight.”

”How are the others preparing?”

”They’re all good, each seems quite eager for a match against Chen Ming.”

Chen Ming had never socialized with others from the Fourteenth Legion. Bai Quan quickly understood why these people wanted to fight Chen Ming and said, ”Make sure no one gets any inappropriate ideas.”

”Uncle Bai, sorry, Uncle Bai, don’t worry. I keep a proper distance with everyone.”

”And the team I chose for Chen Ming consists entirely of those who think only about fighting, unaffected by outside interference.”

”Oh, and there’s Cheng Xinghe, but he seems to have only fighting on his mind too.”

”In any case, don’t worry about the selection. I’ve been carefully picking people these past days. The strength of the two teams is definitely balanced, and there won’t be any issues.”

Bai Quan didn’t react at all to Cheng Xinghai calling him Uncle Bai.

Cheng Xinghai’s tendency to speak carelessly when there’s nothing urgent isn’t new.

He had been wondering where Cheng Xinghai had been these past days since he’d not come to see him.

During a casual mention of Cheng Xinghai to Chen Ming in recent days, Chen Ming also didn’t know, saying they hadn’t been in touch.

It seems like these past few days, Cheng Xinghai returned to school looking for those authorized to use simulation equipment.

These candidates were mainly her peers and top students at the school, barely gathered by today.

Bai Quan didn’t review the personnel again because Cheng Xinghai could be trusted with serious matters.

”Got it. Just send me a list of personnel when the time comes. I’ll personally review the footage and send it to their school afterward. Whether they earn rewards or get scolded by instructors depends on their performance.”

”Huh?”

Cheng Xinghai made a surprised sound.

”Not understanding why I view the private combat you organized as a formal competition?”

Cheng Xinghai quickly caught on and asked, ”Because of Chen Ming?”

Bai Quan didn’t give a direct answer, instead saying, ”Won’t tell you, but you’ll know soon enough.”

”I’ll be setting the rules for tonight’s match. I’ll confirm some rules with Chen Ming that only he would know.”

Cheng Xinghai had no issue with Bai Quan not answering her question, instead asking, ”Is it related to his Spiritual Energy again?”

”Yes, the simulation equipment can’t fully simulate some effects of Spiritual Energy, so we use these special settings.”

”I need you all to fully utilize your maximum comprehensive abilities.”

Cheng Xinghai suddenly remembered the last simulated battle and asked, ”You mentioned limiting Chen Ming’s Spiritual Energy previously...”

”I will limit it again this time, at least not letting him exceed his own Spiritual Energy limits.”

Actually, Bai Quan didn’t mention that the degree of limitation is hard to specify.

He was sure that Chen Ming’s Spiritual Energy had effects completely unknown to him,

and he intended to limit Chen Ming in that aspect.

Simply put, it’s no different from having no limit.

After all, the Spiritual Energy Chen Ming hadn’t displayed couldn’t possibly be used here.

Moreover, from the Spiritual Energy Chen Ming had displayed thus far, in scenarios where there are specific people assisting, he could surely overpower Cheng Xinghai’s side in large-scale battles.

Cheng Xinghai was quite pleased with Bai Quan’s response. Having seen the obnoxious extent of Chen Ming’s Spiritual Energy, she lacked confidence to defeat him in direct battles with equal forces one-on-one.

Just having an infinitely usable Teleportation Engine was enough for Chen Ming to remain undefeated in pure combat, disgustingly so.

Only in large-scale battlegrounds where there exists a base that can limit Chen Ming’s Spiritual Energy usage does Cheng Xinghai see a chance of victory.

Especially since Bai Quan was limiting Chen Ming’s Spiritual Energy, Cheng Xinghai felt this upcoming large-scale simulated battle might be her closest chance to defeating Chen Ming.

Seeing Cheng Xinghai in a good mood, unaware of her own malicious intentions, Bai Quan directly said, ”Go make preparations; don’t let people down.”

”Rest assured, such a scale of simulation will not be missed by anyone.”

”By the way, should I inform them that the footage will be reviewed and sent to their school?”

Bai Quan immediately replied, ”Tell them, give them some pressure; don’t let your teammates think this simulation is casual.”

Cheng Xinghai suddenly realized Bai Quan’s intention, with a slight curve on her lips, drew out her response, saying, ”Alright—”

That night.

Chen Ming directly arranged for all researchers at the institute to have a day off the next day.

After all, the Extraordinary Research Institute currently, in Chen Ming’s mind, is assisting the Fourteenth Legion in researching another civilization’s heritage obtained from the Mechanical Race, occasionally also researching the Mechanical Race.
