Chapter 710: Chapter 214 Invitation

The reason why Bai Quan has become so disheveled now, Chen Ming can roughly guess.

So, Chen Ming actively brought up a topic and said, ”Then how should we deal with the person helping the government later?”

”We can only investigate for now.”

”Still investigate? Has the result of the last investigation come out?”

”Yes, it has.”

Bai Quan nodded slightly and said, ”Someone at headquarters took kickbacks and provided a batch of inferior goods to replace the original new batch. Everyone involved, including the supplier, has been dealt with.”

”What about the little apprentice of Director Wu? What’s Director Wu’s attitude?”

”This situation is a bit complicated.”

”Director Wu’s little apprentice has always been learning from Director Wu at headquarters, and there doesn’t seem to be any problem.”

”But his research resources can’t compare to his already trained senior apprentices, including samples from the Mechanical Race, various rare components like the Purgatory Core, and money, all of which he lacks, so he has grievances in his heart.”

”This time, Director Wu specifically brought the little apprentice instead of other apprentices to show he is not biased.”

”As a result, the little apprentice accepted the bribes from the supplier, actively requested to check the Electromagnetic Restraint Device during the inspection, but only glanced at it, not really checking it.”

”Then there is another one responsible for installing the Electromagnetic Pulse Bombs on the Mechanical Race, the same.”

”These two people together caused the previous situation.”

”I see.”

Chen Ming understood the reason within, then asked the question he wanted to ask, ”So why doesn’t Director Wu give that little apprentice the same resources?”

”Because in Director Wu’s eyes, the little apprentice’s skills are not yet up to standard.”

”In simple terms, it’s just an immature apprentice who thinks he deserves a share of the resources already allotted to his trained seniors, and when he can’t, he acts out, right?”

”It’s harsh but about right.”

Chen Ming shook his head and said, ”What happened next?”

”Director Wu understood the matter instantly and cut off ties with his little apprentice after all those responsible at the supplier and headquarters were taken down, quite decisively.”

”It’s better than letting him continue to ruin people’s reputation. What about that little apprentice?”

”Went to jail.”

After Bai Quan finished speaking, he no longer continued, as if the matter ended there.

But Chen Ming wanted to hear more and continued to ask, ”Is this matter just over like this?”

”It’s over, it can only end like this. All the culprits have been brought forward with the evidence I’ve gathered. More than that, I can’t do anything.”

Chen Ming pursued further, ”Those higher up won’t be affected at all? You don’t have any suspects in mind?”

”This matter, if it happened ordinarily, could indeed be seen as a pure accident, but it happening to me, it absolutely couldn’t be just an accident.”

”Why would he dare take kickbacks right in front of you, me, and Director Wu?”

”The Electromagnetic Restraint Device, Electromagnetic Pulse Bomb, two crucial personal safety devices for studying the Mechanical Race, were deliberately left unchecked. Was the supplier bothered by having too many family members?”

Bai Quan’s face was full of helplessness as he said, ”Such clan extermination issues were not encouraged even when we were on Earth.”

”Of course I know, as long as you get my point.”

”If it doesn’t work, let me ask you a question, your Fourteenth Legion isn’t united internally, is it?”

Bai Quan answered without hesitation, ”Every power, after its development phase, can never be fully united.”

”So it’s just that someone doesn’t want me to run over to the Fourteenth Legion?”

”Many in the Fourteenth Legion also don’t like me.”

He didn’t answer directly, but the meaning was clear.

Indeed, there were some in the Fourteenth Legion who disapproved of Bai Quan, and naturally, through Bai Quan’s channel, Chen Ming, seeming to have joined the Fourteenth Legion, was also on the list of those disapproved.

”But I remember that before, the Fourteenth Legion wanted me to join, didn’t it?”

Bai Quan said, ”The past is the past. At that time, you were just a pure freelancer. After joining the Fourteenth Legion, several factions within the legion could compete for you.”

”But now... anyway, everyone on the surface of course welcomes you to join.”

Chen Ming casually speculated, ”Privately, each one wishes I’d go as far away as possible, right.”

”Not quite, at most they just wish you’d temporarily stay away from the Fourteenth Legion, and after they get rid of me, then they’d bring you back.”

”Anyway, by then they can pass the buck internally, whether it’s targeting you or me, the effect is the same. In the end, the one who bears the responsibility would be me.”

Chen Ming listened, feeling a bit of a headache, inquired, ”But the ones executing the tasks must be kept safe, otherwise who will do the work in the future? You must at least know the one providing safeguard protection, right?”

Bai Quan still looked helpless and said, ”...I know, but there’s nothing I can do... Just because you know about this matter doesn’t mean others will admit it.”

”Unless there is an extremely complete chain of evidence, everything else is just empty talk, even if someone knows the truth of the matter, without evidence, no one would believe the empty talk, that’s the real helplessness of the situation.”

”Helpless? Are you so disgusted by them? Doesn’t the person have any family, descendants, or a protégé like Director Wu?”

”No harm to the family involved.”

”Tsk, being a Vice Admiral seems a bit frustrating for you, isn’t there anyone helping you out?”

Upon hearing Chen Ming’s question, Bai Quan’s face relaxed a bit and he said, ”There is.”

”I was able to set up a branch here, and previously sailed with three Main Ships to rescue you. Although the process slightly diverged because of the Battle Zone issues, now I still have two Main Ships at my disposal, that’s the greatest help.”
