Chapter 711: Chapter 214 Invitation_2

”But these things can’t help you now.”

”...”

Bai Quan suddenly sighed, took off his coat with the Fourteenth Legion insignia, and lay back on the recliner.

”I need time, my old superior is about to retire, and his children are not active in the military or political circles.”

”So, it’s impossible for me to take the initiative against other people’s families, that would be truly breaking ties, and doing so won’t win me any support, including from those who are currently backing me.”

Chen Ming had heard from his boss that Bai Quan, like him, was also an orphan who grew up in the military.

And in the past few months, during his teaching breaks with Chen Ming, Bai Quan would occasionally mention these things.

Chen Ming knew that the old superior Bai Quan spoke of was no different from his father, and Bai Quan certainly couldn’t harm his other children.

”Then why aren’t you quickly finding a way to take over the resources your old superior has, instead of coming here?”

Bai Quan slowly explained: ”I rose through the ranks too quickly, and my seniority is not old enough, so there are many things I can’t directly handle.”

”My old superior is only a Vice Admiral, but he can do many things that an Admiral can do, whereas I can’t even do what many of my peer Vice Admirals can.”

Bai Quan suddenly pointed to the ground and said, ”I came here because there’s a chance here, a chance to earn military merits. As long as the military merits are enough, seniority won’t matter.”

”And, the Fourteenth Legion Branch in the Gallo Star Realm is a backup plan for me and my old superior.”

”Backup plan?”

Chen Ming suddenly smirked and said, ”Here’s a joke: a thirty-four-year-old, the youngest Vice Admiral in nearly a century in the Empire, needs to avoid the Empire’s frontline to find a backup plan.”

Bai Quan’s mouth twitched rigidly and said, ”I can fail, but I can’t leave the person who taught me, who gave me life, without even a backup plan.”

Chen Ming was silent for a moment, then said, ”Politics is really troublesome.”

Bai Quan agreed, ”I think so too, the battlefield is better.”

”I estimate that the results of this investigation will be the same, with just a few people below being punished, with no real outcome.”

”You’re already within the rules now, unable to do much, and that’s the limitation you must accept for coming here.”

”Hmm...”

Chen Ming made a meaningful sound of acknowledgment; he actually wasn’t within the rules, it was just that his current situation gave that illusion.

For Chen Ming, as long as no one crosses his bottom line, he’ll continue to pretend he’s still within the rules.

But if someone exceeds his bottom line, then he’ll use some means outside the rules.

For example, in the previous two times, Hu Yi’s issue had already gone too far, so he would find a way to deal with Hu Yi.

He’s just currently lacking the means to track Psychics, to investigate them, so he needs time and Bai Quan’s help.

As for the latter Mechanical Race issue, it barely touched the edge of his bottom line, it could be dealt with or left alone.

Anyway, if something goes wrong with these matters, the losses would basically be internal to the Fourteenth Legion, it should be them who worry.

If they’re not anxious, and the internal matters have already been dealt with according to the rules, there’s no need for Chen Ming to worry about it.

And this time, the third time, Chen Ming himself didn’t care much.

After all, it was just an invitation.

The one truly humiliated was Bai Quan.

But Bai Quan and Chen Ming have more than just a relationship of mutual assistance and benefit.

After months of one-on-one teaching, Chen Ming and Bai Quan have a pretty good relationship in private.

So, considering the problem from a friend’s perspective, Chen Ming can’t help but get a little annoyed.

Even though everything seemed to be targeting him, and not Bai Quan.

But Bai Quan is the boss of this branch, he surely has to take responsibility for what happens here, and of course, he would feel aggrieved.

However, Bai Quan’s current attitude makes it impossible for Chen Ming to directly cross the line to help him.

He can only suggest his ideas as much as he can, beyond that, he’s powerless.

He’s just a newly developed Psychic, and he doesn’t want to and won’t get involved in these political matters.

It’s better to let Bai Quan be the one to worry about it.

Unless someone really pushes him too hard, crosses his bottom line, then he’ll have a reason to bypass Bai Quan and cause trouble.

Bai Quan didn’t dwell on such matters for too long.

There’s no use worrying about things you can’t do, better to be prepared, and when someone reaches out next time, just cut off his hand, then go find the person who’s lost a hand.

That’s the simplest and quickest way.

Bai Quan put his coat back on and said, ”Let’s not talk about troublesome things.”

”There’s a small tactical meeting tomorrow, do you want to attend?”

”Tomorrow?”

”Yes, I’ve been checking with the instructor every afternoon on your learning progress, and as of today, I think you should be able to understand the things in the meeting.”

”At that time, you can attend via holographic projection, you have the equipment here.”

”Okay.”

Chen Ming had always been looking forward to this, and now that Bai Quan brought it up, he couldn’t miss it.

Seeing Bai Quan looking ready to leave after speaking, Chen Ming quickly asked, ”How’s the investigation progress on Hu Yi’s matter?”

Bai Quan immediately halted his steps and said, ”Almost forgot to tell you, as for him, we currently have no clues.”

”I specifically had a Psychic check on him, but couldn’t find any traces. This person is sealed by spiritual energy, making it impossible to confirm their exact location.”
