Space Odyssey from Abandoned Mining Space Station

Chapter 703: Chapter 212 Unexpected Accident_2

As he got closer, he could easily observe the surrounding equipment.

These devices all looked like old equipment that had been used before, rather than newly prepared ones.

It should have been these researchers who brought them over, not Bai Quan.

The equipment Bai Quan gave to Chen Ming a few days ago was all brand new, that’s for sure.

These devices were mainly monitoring equipment, which could record all the details of what happened on the Mechanical Race.

Although the equipment was somewhat outdated, judging from the quantity and types, as well as the dense yet non-interfering arrangement, a lot of effort had indeed been put in.

It can only be said that terms like spiritual energy network, swarm intelligence, and individual consciousness, which seem unrelated to machinery, have bothered these researchers, scientists, and scholars studying the Mechanical Race for countless years.

With the opportunity Chen Ming has now provided to figure out what the Mechanical Race is all about,

they would be doing a disservice to their years of hardships if they didn’t prepare more equipment.

Additionally, there were many devices in this batch that Chen Ming had never seen before, most of which emitted a faint spiritual energy fluctuation.

They were all spiritual ability devices.

Although the Mechanical Race did not have spiritual energy fluctuations, just like things controlled by Chen Ming would not emit spiritual energy fluctuations, since someone tested that complete spiritual energy locking was effective against the Mechanical Race before, all necessary preparations should be made.

It’s just that the specific functions of these spiritual ability devices were unknown.

Chen Ming glanced at the equipment a couple more times, then refocused his attention back on the Blazing Silkworm closest to him.

Although the researchers also prepared various samples of the Mechanical Race, from small to large,

Chen Ming thought it would be better to start with something iconic. The Blazing Silkworm, with its larger size, was quite impressive on the battlefield—a good choice.

After selecting the target, Chen Ming continued to approach the interior of the electromagnetic restraint device.

All the metal objects on his body had been removed in advance, so there was no need to worry about being trapped himself.

However, midway through, his steps suddenly paused, then he continued as if nothing had happened.

No one noticed Chen Ming’s small act.

Just as Chen Ming reached out to touch the Blazing Silkworm in front of him,

the signal light of the electromagnetic restraint device above his head suddenly began to flash rapidly, eventually going out completely.

The researcher controlling the equipment nearby had a momentary brain freeze and then shouted to Chen Ming with a slightly cracked voice, ”The electromagnetic restraint device has failed! Retreat quickly!”

As soon as the words were spoken, the nearby researchers all abandoned the equipment they were using and turned to run.

Their movements were so practiced that it hardly seemed like the first time they had encountered such a situation.

The Blazing Silkworm in front of Chen Ming had already broken free.

However, at the moment the Blazing Silkworm broke free, a small explosion occurred on its body, with several weak arcs flickering on its exterior.

This was the electromagnetic pulse bomb that had been originally set, intended to affect the Mechanical Race and paralyze them.

But perhaps due to the venue, the arcs from the set electromagnetic pulse explosion were somewhat too weak.

The power was not strong enough to completely paralyze the Blazing Silkworm; instead, it paralyzed the surrounding equipment, with the electromagnetic restraint device being the first to bear the brunt.

Fortunately, Chen Ming’s hand was already on the electromagnetic restraint device.

Aside from the Blazing Silkworm, a total of eleven Mechanical Race units were present, and their visual sensors had just started to turn, immediately locking onto Chen Ming, who was definitely the highest on their threat list.

Their movements stiffened.

However, the Blazing Silkworm, having broken free first, moved slightly faster. It spewed raging flames at Chen Ming.

Although the other researchers stood at a considerable distance from the start, the Blazing Silkworm’s flames did not harm anyone else.

But Chen Ming’s figure was completely engulfed by the flames.

Bai Quan’s previously smiling expression vanished. His eyes became bloodshot, and anger instantly filled his mind.

Yet, as the Blazing Silkworm emitted scorching red light, the flames also engulfed its body, igniting the surrounding vegetation, and smoke thoroughly enveloped the square.

The soldiers escorting Bai Quan immediately surrounded him.

They intended to take Bai Quan to the second underground level for refuge.

But before they could act, the flames within the dome dispersed instantly, and the smoke from the burning vegetation was expelled by the dome’s circulation system within seconds.

And there stood Chen Ming, wearing an intact Flying Locust Power Armor, in the clearing smoke and dust.

In a spot hidden from everyone, under the armor on Chen Ming’s chest, was embedded the Purgatory Core.

This was the reason the flames dispersed instantly.

Meanwhile, the Blazing Silkworm, which had struggled free and resisted, was now lying down like a tame dog.

The electromagnetic restraint equipment around had all been controlled by Chen Ming, maintained, and all the Mechanical Race units were firmly locked in place.

Within those few seconds, Chen Ming had already analyzed the cause of the sudden failure of the electromagnetic restraint equipment.

Some of the components inside the device had aged.

This was the source of danger he had sensed earlier when approaching the Mechanical Race.

Chen Ming realized in the moment his steps paused that this was another deliberately planned incident.

Although this incident appeared to be just an accident, and aging equipment is normal after long-term use.
