After rejecting my celebrity husband

Chapter 170: Chapter 171: The Greatest in History [3]

”President Leng?” Ailin cautiously gauged his complexion, ”Can we... continue the meeting?!”

Answering a phone call during a meeting was absolutely unprecedented for Leng Zimo.

Even under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t bring his mobile phone into the conference room.

Leng Zimo came to his senses and placed the phone on the table.

”Continue!”

Having received his go-ahead, those around the table began to resume the previous topic. The contract with Hollywood had already been signed, and this meeting’s main focus was to discuss the specific implementation plan and some financial arrangements, which were crucial parts of this project.

The project planners at the meeting all spoke their minds, and due to conflicting opinions, the creative department and the marketing department inadvertently began to quarrel.

This sort of situation was quite normal at Emperor View.

Although known as ”Emperor Leng,” he never suppressed his subordinates in work-related matters, instead, he provided them with ample space to perform.

”Since we are the primary investors this time, I think that the movie should primarily feature Eastern elements. If we still adopt a Western fantasy style, even if the result is excellent, we cannot surpass ’The Lord of the Rings’!”

”Don’t forget, we are catering to a global audience. If the Eastern elements are too strong, can the viewers in the Asia Pacific region accept it? We’ve made such a significant investment not just for industry recognition, but also for the company’s profits!”

...

Art and making money are always the two things that entertainment companies need to balance the most.

The creative department and the marketing department are also the ones that argue the most.

But this time was definitely the first time that such a fierce argument had broken out, simply because this particular production involved a considerable budget.

Three hundred million! ”Titanic” was only invested with a little over two hundred million. If this movie were released, just the production cost alone would be called the highest in history.

This was Emperor View’s major production of the year. If there were any mistakes with this movie, it wouldn’t just be a matter of losing money; Emperor View would also become the industry’s laughingstock.

As part of the production team, who wouldn’t want to do their best?

Leng Zimo clapped his hands together, and the quarreling parties instantly fell silent.

All were somewhat apprehensively watching him. They knew his temper, and the discussion just now had been too intense. He must be about to blow up, right?!

Remembering his temper, everyone felt a chill down their spines.

However, contrary to everyone’s expectations, Leng Zimo spoke with a surprisingly calm voice.

”For this movie, I want not only artistic effects and cultural depth, but also box office returns!” He gestured for people from both sides to sit down, ”I believe that these are not conflicting goals. Whether Eastern or Western, everyone is human. Just as our traditional dumplings have similar counterparts abroad—they might not call them dumplings, but it’s still just a filling wrapped in dough. Movies are the same. What is ’The Lord of the Rings’ about? Stripped down, it’s just good vs. evil, the dream of a little guy becoming a hero. ’Titanic’ is simply the most clichéd love story. All these are universal human identifiers. So, I want you to balance culture and box office, not compromise one for the other!”

He stood up, resting his arms, and surveyed the room.

”At tomorrow afternoon’s meeting, I want to see brand-new planning and marketing proposals. Now, meeting adjourned!”
