Chapter 2245: Chapter 466: Makeup and Unicorns

In this world, ordinary people actually don’t have much emotion like ’regret’, ’sadness’, ’despair’, ’infatuation’, and so on.

Everything about ordinary people is so ordinary, even their emotions are a few shades duller than those of ’characters in books’ or ’characters in songs’. A sigh marks the regret, a moment of daze marks the infatuation, and in despair, they don’t even shed a tear; the empty eyes do not mean the heart is dead cold, but rather that there is truly nothing in the heart.

Can embers remain if the fire never burned at the bottom of the heart?

Zheng Qing is not too sure about this question, because he is not a standard ordinary person—he possesses the appearance, emotions, and attitude of ordinary people, but a spell has cast a halo over all his ordinariness, making his ordinary seem rather extraordinary.

For example, he enrolled in a university for wizards.

For example, he has seen giant beasts larger than a hill, able to cover half the sky.

Furthermore, as a human, he has a descendant from the canine fox lineage, and the little fox’s mother is a stunning beauty with peerless looks—of course, somewhat less perfect because this beauty has four fox tails.

Currently, he needs to attend the Christmas Eve masquerade ball held by the Clans of the Moon with this lady.

Originally, on Thursday afternoon, Zheng Qing should have proceeded to Greenhill Mansion for ball preparations, but out of respect for knowledge as a student of Jiuyou, he obediently attended his elective course in magical zoology before hurriedly rushing to the mansion at number fifty-four Beta Town West District.

Only unexpectedly, the owner of the mansion was not there.

And it was now less than three hours before the ball commenced.

”An abnormal situation occurred in the laboratory; the lady went to handle it, without saying when she’ll be back.” Su Man, the head housemaid responsible for receiving the warlock, explained formally: ”But please rest assured, according to the lady’s character, she will absolutely keep her word.”

Zheng Qing had not the slightest bit of ’unease’.

In fact, he would much rather Councillor Su be caught up by laboratory work, rendering attendance at tonight’s ball impossible, allowing him a clear path to skip out.

”Then what should I do?”

The young cost student stood awkwardly in front of the usually indifferent head maid, feeling strangely constrained, couldn’t help but glance around: ”Isn’t Poseidon here either?”

”Miss Dongdong is undergoing etiquette training.” Su Man lowered her eyelids, briefly answering the warlock’s question: ”As for now, I suggest you start your ball preparations.”

The warlock naturally had no objections.

So-called ball preparations were not merely changing into a gown but included washing, hairstyling, and makeup—yes, as a warlock, Zheng Qing tasted for the first time the experience of being pressed into a chair with a face covered in various cosmetics.

”What are these little bugs for?!!”

”They can effectively remove dead skin and mites from your skin.”

”I don’t want to wear lipstick!”

”All warlocks wear lipstick... I can choose a rather light shade for you.”

”Ah-choo... Can you use less powder?”

”Please keep a calm facial expression before makeup completion, or it will easily cake.”

Just like that, after over an hour of fussing under the joint efforts of multiple maids and magic, the young cost student finally managed to meet Su Man’s requirements.

Standing in front of the tall dressing mirror, looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar face in the reflection, for a moment, Zheng Qing could hardly pinpoint his own gender—Merlin Above, even though he felt usually full of masculinity, somehow he had become so... delicate.

The young man subconsciously raised his chin, revealing his Adam’s apple.

”The hairstyle! The hairstyle is terrible!”

The dressing mirror kept chattering with complaints about the young cost student’s stubbly short hair: ”You need a wig! Believe me, as the mirror serving the lady daily at Greenhill Mansion, I possess undoubtedly impeccable taste throughout the Alliance! Just shave your head, and with these wigs I’ve chosen, you’ll surely captivate most of the girls at the ball!”

As it spoke, the mirror quickly displayed several wigs of different colors, lengths, and styles, placed on Zheng Qing’s head in the reflection.

One can say, though the mirror was chatty, its taste was indeed impeccable.

However, Zheng Qing and Su Man seldom agreed on this matter—the warlock did not desire to further extending the collapse of his image, and the head maid was alert towards the mirror’s last statement.

”This will do!”

”There’s no suitable wig in the mansion.”

The two spoke almost simultaneously, then looked at each other. The dressing mirror, somewhat dejected, withdrew the chosen wigs, closed its eyes, and spun away into the silvery mirror surface.

Su Man cleared her throat: ”You may rest a while in the mansion; the lady will return very soon.”

Unfortunately, the ’soon’ she mentioned did not arrive for quite a long time.

Two hours later, a paper crane casually flew into the flower hall of Greenhill Mansion, landing on the head maid’s lifted wrist.

”Very sorry, the lab work slightly exceeded expectations.”

The head maid glanced at Zheng Qing, seemingly also exhaling a deep breath: ”The lady said she would directly head to the ball site... so you can depart now.”

The transition between the two sentences had a rather large scope.

Upon hearing the first sentence, Zheng Qing was somewhat surprised and delighted, thinking his prayers had been heard by some divine being wandering in the sky, granting him exemption from attending tonight’s ball; but the latter sentence instantly sank his heart, floating to his throat, back down to his bladder.

”I myself...”

He glanced at his own reflection on the tabletop, suddenly feeling the need to use the restroom, and couldn’t help but look at the head maid: ”...Do I just walk there like this?”

”Of course not, the mansion has its own pumpkin carriage... with two unicorns pulling it.”

Last Christmas, Zheng Qing had seen the pumpkin carriage.

The pumpkins used for the carriage were picked from the mansion’s garden with help from young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team, and the vehicle-pulling big mice were Dangdang Ears’ brothers.

But unicorns, he was seeing up close for the first time.

Such a precious magical creature is extremely rare even on Buji Island, only favoring interaction with pretty witches, hardly engaging with warlocks.

When Zheng Qing approached the pumpkin carriage, he was unaware of this point. And Su Shi Jun’s usual carriage setup also ignored this point.

Until the young cost student stood by the pumpkin carriage, ready to get on, the restless unicorns made Su Man suddenly realize: ”Oh no!”

She saw the unicorn nearest to the young man had already turned its head, opened its mouth, revealing two rows of pristine large teeth, suddenly breaking out in a cold sweat, swiftly drawing out the law book.

Slurp!

The unicorn, known for its aversion to warlocks, extended its long tongue, fiercely licking the young cost student’s cheek, then squinted its eyes in an expression of bliss.

The experienced head maid rarely lost composure, showing a look of astonishment, with the law book gripped in her hand suspended mid-air, momentarily forgetting to retract it.
