High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2235: Chapter 456: First Anniversary of Opening

On Saturday night, the transaction held in the Seven Deadly Sins Conference Room could be considered Zheng Qing’s first time breaking through a psychological barrier and some kind of moral restraint, actively engaging in something not on the usual scale of good and evil—’a bad deed’.

This gave him a feeling of inexplicable excitement and unease.

Revealing the school’s secret information to ’outsiders’ and using external forces to activate the school’s own ’immune system’ might be the fastest way he could currently think of to investigate those Ravens.

Nobody wanted to do such a thing.

He just didn’t want a group of guys wearing Raven Masks to appear again in the Silent Forest during the Spring Hunt a few months later, knocking down some young wizard, drawing their blood, and conducting their dangerous experiments.

In fact, that evening, besides the Fox and Persian Cat who initially proposed the deal, the other members of the Seven Deadly Sins also bought that piece of information from the Black Cat’s claw one after another.

And the information Zheng Qing provided was very rich—Raven attacks, Tutan Body, an out-of-control Two-headed Ogre, a suspected legendary existence from the Deeps of Starry Sky taking action, he even used phrases like ’according to reliable sources’ in the intelligence report, straightforwardly telling everyone about the Atonement’s speculations on the Ravens.

Especially the last point, a wizard conducting demon bloodline transplant experiments, definitely touched the Mage Alliance’s red line in the sun. The Black Cat clearly remembered the incredulous expressions on the faces of the seven devils of the Seven Deadly Sins when they saw that information. It had no doubt that these devils would make sure this data achieved its greatest effect.

This gave the Black Cat a thrilling sense of having stirred up a hornet’s nest.

After leaving the Seven Deadly Sins meeting, it didn’t even stop by the long-awaited Cat Fruit Tree for inspection, nor detoured to Greenhill Mansion to greet Poseidon, but instead dashed back to the dormitory and hid in its Six-pillar bed’s curtain.

As if that thick quilt could block all the prying eyes of the outside world.

Perhaps it really could.

In any case, the night passed without incident.

The next day, the sun rose as usual from the east, its golden light pleasantly painting the entire Buji Island, from the depths of the forest, to the Silent River, then to the castle, the academy, and every young wizard’s face.

Zheng Qing, wearing a red robe, stood at the entrance of number ninety-seven on the Beta Town Pedestrian Street, feeling the winter sun, the warmth in the chill, with a strong urge to turn into a cat in his heart.

But not today.

At least not now.

Because today was the anniversary of the founding of D&K, and he needed to greet invited guests at the door. Due to the impact of Winter Hunting, the atmosphere in Beta Town was somewhat tense, with a patrol team from the North District wearing belts with frog bags occasionally passing by on the street, looking at every passerby with suspicious eyes.

Since the casting ability of the Northern District Wizards improved, a flood of abundant and cheap wizard labor rushed into the not-so-large employment market of Beta Town, posing a great threat to other low-end wizards originally making a living in the town, but at the same time offering employers more choices.

Just like the Beta Town Patrol Team.

Now, the Beta Town Management Committee only needed to spend the gold it previously used to hire one patrolman to employ a small team of professional and competent Northern District Patrolmen.

Nobody could resist the huge benefits involved.

And the low-tier wizards originally making a living in Beta Town, lacking unified leadership and goals, found it hard to resist the organized encroachment of the Northern District Wizards, having to struggle back and forth between lowering their expectations, leaving, or sporadic resistance.

It was hard to say which side’s situation was more worthy of sympathy.

The only thing Zheng Qing could be sure of was that the appearance of the Northern District Wizards also had wider and more complex impacts, like ripples in water that reflected back upon hitting the shore and collided with, offset, or even merged with new ripples.

Such as the increasing demand for magical resources brought by the growing number of low-tier wizards, making collection in the Silent Forest increasingly profitable; for another, the growing number of wizards also brought greater prosperity to Beta Town, on one hand, reducing the cost of wizard services, enabling many students to afford hiring magic apprentices; on the other, continuously expanding the demand for wizard services, such as the small shop next to D&K selling amulets, whose owner Mu Mingzi boasted that this year’s turnover more than doubled compared to last year.

”As far as I know, more and more residents in Beta Town have become dissatisfied with the Northern District Wizards. Beta Town is now like an alchemy furnace with a magical imbalance, ready to blow up any moment.”

A slightly abrupt voice interrupted the young cost student’s contemplation, and Zheng Qing turned his head to see a blonde witch following his gaze, staring at the Northern District Wizard Patrol Team gradually walking away.

Upon noticing the warlock’s surprised look, the witch lifted the gift in her hand: ”Sorry, I hope I’m not disturbing you... Linda Barnes.”

Zheng Qing knew this witch, she was Xin Fat Man’s guide in the campus newspaper, serving as deputy editor-in-chief, a third-year student—though according to the Fat Man, she was recently seeking early graduation and had already resigned from her position at the campus newspaper.

During the Winter Hunting, the Absolution Hunting Team had ventured deep into the Silent Forest to support Linda’s Victor Patrol Team, although at the time there wasn’t much interaction due to time constraints.

”Zheng Qing, Absolution Hunting Team Leader... also the owner of this store.” The young cost student introduced himself while apologizing repeatedly: ”Sorry, I was a bit lost in thought just now...”

”No worries.”

The witch smiled slightly: ”We should thank the Absolution Hunting Team for their help during the Winter Hunting. As for you, you don’t really need to introduce yourself... there probably isn’t a witch in the entire First University who doesn’t know you now... I think everyone is curious about how you know Su Councilor.”

Perhaps because of Xin Fat Man’s influence, she seemed very friendly, her words very tactful, not at all matching the fierce and strong demeanor the Fat Wizard usually described to everyone.

Zheng Qing showed a slightly awkward smile.

After a pause, he realized the two were standing outside the door.

”Ah... please come in, please come in.”

He lightly brushed off the witch’s curiosity just now and warmly invited the guest into the store: ”Student Banner received an urgent call from the editorial department, he might be a little late...”

As he spoke, a group of Sprites had already gathered around the two wizards, carrying fruit plates, snacks, and drinks.

”Juice or...”

Zheng Qing lifted a glass of orange juice, then realized he should ask the guest first, hesitated for a moment.

”A Green Bee, please.”

The witch smiled slightly, accepted a tulip glass, sniffed it under her nose and nodded in satisfaction: ”You always need a refreshing drink in the morning to be energized for the whole day... Congratulations on D&K’s first anniversary!”

She raised her glass towards the warlock.

Zheng Qing suddenly understood what the Fat Man meant by saying ’strong’—the lady in front of him didn’t give him any chance to retreat, always maintaining a rhythm and controlling the conversation.
