High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2232: Chapter 453: News from Pride (Genuine)

Xiao Xiao’s suggestion was very prudent.

At First University, topics involving the academy, ideologies, and student movements are all very sensitive, and the ’Please Give Me a Frog Movement’ happens to touch on all these, so it’s definitely best to stay away.

After finalizing the invitation list, Zheng Qing felt that his recent busyness seemed to be coming to an end—at least before the moonlight dance next week, he felt there shouldn’t be any more troublesome matters coming his way.

But that sense of luck was shattered by a peck from a paper crane the next morning.

Early Saturday, Zheng Qing originally planned to go to the library with the Doctor after finishing his morning class to catch up on the revision he’s neglected lately. However, just as he stepped out, a turquoise paper crane lazily landed on his shoulder and pecked at his earlobe.

Curious, Zheng Qing opened it and instantly closed it swiftly.

The paper crane was from Jiang Yufei.

It told him that Doctor Du Zemu might be at the research institute today and to arrange a time to go to the Abnormal Life Research Institute—ever since hypothesizing that those ravens needed the Philosopher’s Stone for experiments related to the Demon Bloodline transplant, Zheng Qing had been paying extra attention to Doctor Du Zemu’s whereabouts. But every time he visited, he only encountered the old servant named Constantin.

”I feel like I smell death.”

The Fat Wizard, still lying in bed, murmured as though talking in his sleep, tightening the blanket around him as if that could make him warmer.

”Don’t be so suspicious.”

Xiao Xiao fastened his belt, comforting him: ”Maybe it’s just a ghost drifting past under your bed...or a cold wind sneaking in from the balcony.”

Zheng Qing glared, annoyed, interrupting the Doctor’s analysis: ”There’ll be ghosts in the dormitory?”

Xiao Xiao glanced at him and calmly headed to the door, chanting as if singing: ”A ghost, a ghost of the Eight Diagram spirits, wandering in dorm 403... Wandering, raising a blazing torch, throwing it deeper into the sea, igniting the fat in the Sea King’s belly, releasing a mature aroma in the sizzling oil...”

This involves a curse!

Zheng Qing grumbled, trying to explain to the Doctor the specific meaning of ’report deviation’ and that he wasn’t an irresponsible person, etc.

Unfortunately, with his recent performance, any explanation seemed like an excuse, appearing pale and lacking persuasiveness.

After the morning class, when he and Xiao Xiao arrived at the library entrance, they saw Jiang Yu’s figure.

Today, the witch wore a red robe, the style appeared simple, but for some reason, the robe gave off a very expensive feel—perhaps it was its matte and smooth fabric, perhaps the extremely thin magical halo it emitted on the surface, or perhaps it was simply its slightly wide belt.

In any case, it formed a stark contrast to the slightly shabby robes of the two warlocks.

Seeing Zheng Qing standing before her, Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow:

”I heard you bought a few nice robes, why aren’t you wearing them?”

Xiao Xiao lowered his head, seemingly adjusting his glasses, but noticing his slightly shrugging shoulders, Zheng Qing had reason to suspect he was secretly laughing, which made him even more embarrassed.

”I do have a few,” the young cost student murmured, seemingly trying to explain: ”But the robes aren’t with me...”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he immediately regretted them, realizing that he shouldn’t follow this topic but rather smartly switch to another topic to avoid worsening the situation.

Standing on the side, Doctor Xiao vaguely sensed the subtle atmosphere flowing in the air, smartly cleared his throat: ”Cough, yeah, if there’s something, you guys chat, I’ll go upstairs to find a seat first...”

Words were barely out when, without waiting for Zheng Qing to react, the short warlock slickly made his escape, leaving Zheng Qing unable to allow a suitable shield to slip away right under his nose, subconsciously reaching out to catch the Doctor’s corner.

Plop.

A warm and slippery semi-liquid object descended from the sky, landing precisely on the warlock’s hand.

It’s bird droppings.

Zheng Qing went pale, wanted to scream but instantly realized the witch beside him, stifling the weak sound he was about to make, exploded with a curse instead:

”Damn...”

Soon, he thought he needed to maintain some demeanor in front of the lady, forcing himself to swallow back the worse words that followed and unnecessarily added: ”...it’s a type of plant.”

This explanation suppressed the rudeness, but instead let out a sense of foolishness.

”Pfft.”

Zheng Qing’s misfortune finally brought a bit of good mood to the witch, who looked at the unlucky warlock still holding his arm up, seemingly frozen in place, and couldn’t help but laugh: ”I didn’t expect such a thing to really happen in the world... Maybe our luck will be good today.”

She was referring to their plan to visit Doctor Du Ze-mu.

Talking as she opened her law book and cast a cleaning spell, a light green spell glow enveloped half of Zheng Qing’s arm, and when the spell light dissipated, the bird droppings were gone without a trace, but Zheng Qing couldn’t help but still feel a touch of warmth on the back of his hand, perhaps an illusion.

He couldn’t help but look up.

Unfortunately, blue sky and white clouds, clear skies, no culprit bird.

”Don’t let me catch you.”

The young cost student mumbled, imagining several ways to catch birds, the most effective being divination using the residue left by the bird droppings.

Just as he was about to speak more harsh words, a magic ring in the grey cloth bag jumped, attracting the warlock’s attention.

Surprised, he reached his hand—his other clean hand—into the grey cloth bag and touched the ring, receiving a brief message in his mind.

”What’s up?” The witch keenly noticed the momentary surprise on the warlock’s face.

Without hesitation, Zheng Qing cautiously looked around and answered in a low voice: ”Pride from the Seven Sins sent a gathering request, saying there’s news about the ravens.”

He had privately exchanged about that secret society with a few companions because of his particular circumstances, and the Silence Contract signed with the Seven Sins didn’t function as it should.

”So effective?”

Jiang Yu found it both amusing and interesting, pondering with folded arms: ”Maybe you shouldn’t go to find Professor Du Ze-mu now, but rather drink a Luck Elixir, and then wander around... Who knows, you might just catch those ravens directly.”

Even so, the Luck Elixir is ultimately a forbidden potion with negative effects and carries certain usage risks. Moreover, many special magical abilities can influence or circumvent the effects of such lucky potions.

After a brief discussion, the two decided to stick to the original plan, first trying their luck at the Abnormal Life Research Institute to see if they could glean any clues from Doctor Du Zemu.

Perhaps a lump of bird droppings wasn’t potent enough, bringing limited luck.

This time, the two returned empty-handed again. The elderly old servant apologized and explained that Doctor Du Zemu had stayed for only a short while before leaving the institute, with his specific whereabouts undisclosed.
