High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2203: Chapter 424: Ogre Attack

Boom!

The massive wolf fang club crashed heavily onto the ground, and the scattered snowflakes shot in all directions, causing the surrounding shrubs and short trees to rustle loudly.

This monster!

Nicholas Green’s eye twitched slightly, and his gaze fell on the owner of that wolf fang club.

It was a two-headed ogre.

Standing over three meters tall, broad-shouldered and thick-waisted, its blue-gray skin exposed to the cold wind, like sculpted rock, revealing a cold and hard feeling.

This two-headed ogre belonged to the Yin Yang Ogre, with its two heads on the shoulders resembling forked branches, one on the left and one on the right, differing in size. The slightly larger head looked very young, with smooth skin and sharp white tusks hanging from the corners of its mouth, faintly still carrying some fresh flesh; the slightly smaller head was already quite old, with wrinkled skin piled up so much that you could hardly see where its eyes were.

But in Nicholas’s eyes, that old head was more dangerous than the young one.

Because dealing with ordinary ogres who only swing clubs, wizards have many ways to handle them, while the aged ogre’s head has accumulated enough over time that even if it’s not a priest, it can somewhat master a few Shaman Magic, making them especially troublesome.

Of course, these judgments were just a feeling at the moment.

The Fringe Hunting Team was hiding within their self-constructed Magic Barrier, following the school hunting team’s advice to remain low-key, not intending to have any dealings with this suddenly appearing ogre.

”Hiss!”

The Fishman Iseni sitting cross-legged on the ground shook his slender fin behind his neck and suddenly mumbled, ”This... hiss... ogre... hiss... is really ugly! Unpleasant to look at!”

Frankly speaking, Nicholas thought Iseni wasn’t qualified to say such things.

But for the sake of team unity, he absolutely couldn’t say what’s on his mind.

”Ugly is a field without grass, a farmland without green leaves, a head without hair.” The Gypsy Witch in the hunting team added casually.

”What?”

Lin Yan spoke the word for Nicholas.

Carmen lowered her eyelids, fiddling with the Tarot cards in front of her, and replied without looking up: ”That’s what Roman poet Ovid said... Meaning a head without hair is as ugly as a field without grass.”

The Fringe Hunting Team’s captain glanced at the two bald heads of the ogre opposite and finally realized what the witch meant, so he couldn’t help but cough lightly, ”Stop chit-chatting... What about the divination results? Also, have any other teams replied?”

The first question was for the team diviner, Gypsy Witch Carmen.

The second was for the team’s other Auxiliary Hunter, Liu Fei Fei.

”No additional messages besides the initial one from the school hunting team.” Liu Fei Fei, in stark contrast to her usual meek demeanor, replied quickly, with her hair tied behind her head, ”Even the Atonement Hunting Team is unreachable... I suspect we are experiencing a magic blackout.”

”Based on that ogre shaman over there?” Lin Yan was doubtful.

”What if there’s more than one ogre shaman?” The Fringe Hunting Team’s diviner glanced at the cards she had just drawn, with a slight sigh.

A reversed ’Wheel of Fortune’.

”The situation is moving in a bad direction unbeknownst to us, and we are powerless.”

The Gypsy Witch simply summarized, then drew a second card, an upright ’Devil’: ”... And all this development is based on some malice... or some unspeakable secrets... We are bound here by the demon’s iron chains, both its prisoners and its accomplices.”

Then, she drew the third card, a reversed ’The Hanged Man’: ”Every card I draw writes ’misfortune’ in bold letters... but this card shows that as long as we don’t make unnecessary sacrifices, there won’t be any sacrifice.”

Before finishing her sentence, the card thrown into the snow seemed to tilt downward a bit due to the melting snow, and the Gypsy Witch raised an eyebrow and added: ”... Probably won’t be a sacrifice.”

Three cards lay unevenly in the snow, like unpleasant scars.

Even in the First University, the Gypsy Witch’s divination skills were widely praised; the only issue was that, like most ordinary wizard’s divination magic, the answers were always vague and contradictory.

”What does ’both prisoners and accomplices’ mean?” Liu Fei Fei frowned slightly, looking confused.

”How bad is the situation?” Lin Yan stood up and looked around, scrutinizing the blurry shrubs outside through the translucent barrier of the magic barrier.

”Probably won’t be a sacrifice... has the situation gotten this bad?” Although the Fringe Hunting Team captain’s face showed no expression, his heart sank suddenly.

Whether it was the strange noises from the depths of Silent Forest or the golden curtain that had just fallen from the School Guardian Array, they originally just made this veteran slightly tense, without thinking much—he simply thought it was another ’prank’ by the school, implementing combat exercises, something he had seen more than once during his four years at the First University.

But from another perspective, it was his first time participating in the outermost Winter Hunting, and he had no experience with what tests the school might arrange for their hunting teams, hard to say if the Gypsy Witch’s divined ’sacrifice’ is truly a ’sacrifice’.

Maybe having sensed Nicholas’s indecision.

Liu Fei Fei grabbed his hand, squeezed it slightly, yet said nothing; this was a silent support.

Boom!

Outside the Magic Barrier, the two-headed ogre, refusing to leave, became increasingly anxious, swinging the massive wolf fang club erratically, and the flying snowflakes grazed the edge of the barrier several times, nearly exposing the Fringe Hunting Team’s presence.

”Definitely more than one!”

Lin Yan’s voice suddenly carried a trace of panic; after all, he was just a first-year student, having been in school for less than half a year: ”... Look over there!”

Following the sound, everyone looked and saw bushes deep in the forest being turned over, as dozens of ogres dragging sticks and large bones were gathering chaotically towards here.

The good news was that all coming were ordinary ogres, only having one head; the bad news was that they were too numerous, and the Fringe Hunting Team would definitely struggle to cope.

They must not let the two-headed ogre merge with its subordinates!

Nicholas hesitated no more.

He took a deep breath, looked around, and finally made up his mind: ”We must immediately defeat the two-headed ogre chief, or even within the barrier, we won’t hide for long.”

”We are the Fringe Hunting Team.”

”We are from the fringe of the Alliance, the fringe among wizards. We have no one to rely on. We shouldn’t expect anyone else. We can only save ourselves.”
