High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2209: Chapter 430: Identity Shift

”Hmph! So it’s a Two-headed Ogre... No wonder it’s so bold.”

In mid-air, a pleasant cold snort resounded: ”But just a Two-headed Ogre causing a ruckus during the Winter Hunting... isn’t that a bit disrespectful to the school?”

The Hoop-headed Ogre’s four pupils shrank simultaneously, suddenly lifting its head — not far above, a graceful witch stood poised in mid-air, her eyes filled with wrath and staring coldly at them. Behind her billowed a long red cloak, with four azure giant tails extending from beneath the cloak, unleashing power through the forest.

In the witch’s hands was a law book, its pages open, with radiant magical power surging forth. Without intentional probing, one could sense the immense destructive force contained within.

”Su Shijun!”

The Hoop-headed Ogre growled out the witch’s name, lifting its chin as the newly grown head under its jaw suddenly opened its eyes and shrieked out a pre-prepared curse in a somewhat childish voice: ”There is a fox soothing!”

The witch in mid-air slightly furrowed her delicate eyebrows, lifting a hand as if to strike down, but under this curse targeting the Fox race, her every move became especially slow and laborious, like an insect trapped in amber.

Seizing this opportunity, the other head of the Hoop-headed Ogre shook vigorously, roaring out a second spell:

”Devolve!”

A grayish-white spell light spread from it, sweeping across the entire battlefield in an instant. The trees touched by this light visibly lost their vitality, the bark seemingly scorched by embers, turning charred and cracked, exposing the pale trunk within; the vines binding the Ogres silently disintegrated into ashes in their intense tremors. From a bird’s-eye view, the once pristine ground seemed suddenly marred by a scab, emitting a decaying aura starkly contrasting the surroundings.

Almost simultaneously, the head under the Ogre’s jaw opened its mouth again, hurling out a third spell in that split second:

”ORGE!”

Dark red spell light shot out, closely following the gray light to the surroundings, forming faint red circles at the feet of every Ogre. The eyes of the Ogres within those circles rapidly took on a red hue, their muscles swelling, and nearly simultaneously, they roared madly, shaking off the effects of the Soft Leg Curse, Chaos Spell, and Languid Curse in no time.

OOOO! Oooo!

Boom!!!

In the distance, at the edge of the battlefield, a huge enslate-blue Axis Water Worm and a Blue Giant rushed into the scorched forest from left to right almost simultaneously, flinging snow dust several meters high into the air.

On the Worm’s head stood a black-robed male witch, cradling the unconscious lesser Zhu Si in his arms; on the Blue Giant’s shoulder stood a student clad in a red hunting outfit, wielding a garish Remington Symbol Gun.

”Teacher Gan?”

Zheng Qing, standing on the shoulder of the Bo Fu Clan Giant, looked at the black-robed male witch atop the giant ’worm,’ unable to hide his surprise: ”Why are you here?”

Then, his gaze fell on Zhu Si, growing more astonished: ”Zhu... Zhu... Why has she shrunk?”

Gan Ning glanced solemnly at the young cost student, feeling particularly bad.

Zheng Qing’s two questions, he didn’t want to answer either.

Because due to his ’oversight,’ the lesser Zhu Si ended up in the hands of the Ogres. Initially, Gan Ning just wanted to come quickly and leave quickly, using the guise of a school teacher to snatch the little witch and make a swift exit.

Unexpectedly, when he returned to the scene, he discovered the Ogres had found new opponents.

By then, sneaking away quietly was no longer an option. The conspicuous form and strong aura of the Axis Water Worm had long been captured by the two Great Wizard-level presences in the forest — he even felt that Su Shijun glanced at them — if he left without a fight, as a school lecturer turning a blind eye to illegal invaders, it was easy to imagine how much trouble it would bring to the professor later.

Perhaps a big shot would suddenly feel like divining and then he’d find himself thrown into the Black Prison with his neck pinched.

So, upon realizing retreat was impossible, this magical zoology lecturer made a decisive move, taking advantage of the groundwork left by the ravens, quickly using ”Peach and tender” to snatch Zhu Si back.

”I was on official duty and noticed risk here, so I came to investigate.”

Gan Ning gave a simple and ambiguous response — his reply was rather clever; even if a Great Diviner tried divination afterward, it would be hard to detect anything abnormal from such an ambiguous description.

Because he truly was on duty.

During the Winter Hunting, the school’s restricted hunting area was only a portion of the Silent Forest. Before the Winter Hunting, the ravens involved in the mission had already entered the Silent Forest under various ’legitimate reasons,’ waiting for the professor’s call. This caution greatly minimized the risk of being traced by diviners.

”Min Tianjiwei, apply to the underworld!”

Su Shijun’s fingers finally pressed onto the law book, her clear spell voice breaking through the bind of ”There is a fox soothing,” resounding throughout the now-expansive woodland.

In the meantime, the other three Two-headed Ogres, having shaken off the Binding Spell and Chaos Spell, simultaneously raised their hands, all six heads lifting upwards, roaring out the same Shaman’s spell:

”Lighting Storm!”

The spell formulas of the double curses collided in the void, making the originally low-hanging clouds hang even lower. The stopped cold wind somehow began howling again, carrying tiny grain-sized snowflakes, swirling madly in this open yet narrow world. Silver lightning crackled violently, traversing between wind and snow, connected end to end like thick chains or furious electric dragons.

The majority of these electric dragons tangled together, rushing at the witch in mid-air.

Several others, laden with bouncing electricity, headed straight for the enslate-blue Axis Water Worm — or rather, straight for the little witch in the male witch’s arms atop the Axis Water Worm.

Gan Ning’s face shifted dramatically.

”Miscanthus Tomb, Three stars in Lu (liu)!”

Spell light spread from his law book, casting a blurry haze over the surrounding space. It was a Virtualization Spell capable of inverting reality and illusion, creating effects akin to flowers in a mirror.

The rampaging electric dragons plunged into the virtualization realm set up by the male witch, continued with undiminished momentum, and rammed directly into Gan Ning while reaching out to grab the little witch in his arms.

But they grasped air.

The male witch struck by the electric dragons, and the little witch beneath its claw, were like bubbles disappearing quietly after a tide, transforming into a moist and fragmented illusion of light.

Gan Ning, holding the little witch, staggered as he landed atop the Axis Water Worm, then he looked up with a hint of apprehension at the ripple-like area above — within it clearly reflected tiny electric dragons crashing wildly all around, leaving chaos in their wake.

”Take her to find the Assistant Team and other Hunting teams! Be cautious... I’ll stay here to hold them off for Su Councilor!”

The male witch shoved the little witch into the Axis Water Worm’s mouth, commanding harshly, as if now viewing themselves and their comrades as Zhu Si’s protectors — or rather, they were even more concerned about the little witch’s safety than Zheng Qing and others now.
