High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2234: Chapter 455: The Seven Sins’ Internal Dealings

Ordinary bats have poor vision and can only emit ultrasonic waves, while their hearing is excessively sensitive. They possess a sensory system distinct from most mammals, which is why very few wizards choose this creature when casting a transformation spell.

But the Blood Race’s bats are different.

Although in appearance, the fully transformed form of the Blood Race is very similar to a bat, they belong to two entirely different species. The bats transformed by the Blood Race are not only larger in size, but their vision, hearing, and vocal abilities are all well-balanced under the influence of magic. Although they cannot speak fluently like that peculiar black cat, neither are they as limited as that parrot, which ’has significant differences’ in its speech.

Concerning the honor of the Blood Race, Matthew almost instinctively wanted to retort.

Then, realizing his identity and current position, he forcefully suppressed this impulse, lowered his gaze, and ignored the chaotic ’beasts language’ in the room. Just as his cousin taught him, he dragged his heavy steps and slowly found his place to sit down.

Creek.

The high-backed chair let out an ear-piercing scraping sound.

The previously noisy meeting room suddenly fell silent. Whether bird or cat, all eyes were immediately fixed on the wizard wearing the bat mask. After a moment, it was the black cat who first spoke.

”Ahem, ahem.”

The black cat, sitting on the cold tabletop with its tail under it, coughed pretentiously twice: ”Lucifer, you gathered everyone today, saying you have some news related to the Ravens...”

Matthew raised his hand to cast a simple barrier, enclosing him and the black cat.

”The Ravens appeared in this school’s winter hunt and attacked the Fringe Hunting Team.”

The wizard wearing the bat mask got straight to the point and revealed all the information he had gathered: ”However, their target wasn’t the students, but the instructor of the Fringe Hunting Team, Ms. Zhu Si.”

Hearing this, the black cat’s mind stirred slightly, tilting its head to scrutinize Mr. Arrogance.

For many well-informed wizards in the school, the appearance of a group of wizards wearing Raven Masks on the Winter Hunting Ground wasn’t much news; the attack on the Fringe Hunting Team by these Ravens was also known to many.

But those who knew Zhu Si was the real target of the Ravens were very limited—because it involved multiple legendary beings. Aside from the few young wizards in the Absolution and Fringe Hunting Team, the teaching assistants involved in the investigation, the janitors, and professors, Zheng Qing suspected that even the wizards from Danghag and the Trident Sword sent by the Alliance to assist in the investigation were only half-aware.

Thus, Lucifer being able to get hold of this news made the black cat’s first thought emerge: who is he?

But quickly, the black cat realized that with just the vague information at hand, it couldn’t deduce Lucifer’s true identity. He couldn’t confirm the identity of every wizard participating in the investigation.

”This is not a useful message.”

The black cat moved its paw off its tail and pressed it on a ’True Word Stone’, twitching its ears: ”The information you’ve provided is already known... If you wish to receive compensation, you need to provide further information.”

”Is that so?”

The wizard with the bat mask nodded subtly as he stared at the jade stone beneath the black cat’s paw, which showed no reaction: ”That’s really unfortunate... Sadly, the information I obtained is very limited, and I have no more to offer.”

The black cat sighed regretfully, lifting the barrier, and looked around.

”Anyone else?” It eagerly looked around: ”Does anyone else have any insights about the Ravens? Any clues will do... I will pay handsomely.”

The Ah Mao and Ah Gou around the conference table shook their heads.

However, Miss Jealousy—who was none other than the Persian cat—looked at Mr. Arrogance with marked interest: ”Lucifer, it sounds like you have some understanding of what happened during this winter hunt? Do you know what specifically happened in the Silent Forest after the Protect Legal Formation was deployed?”

The voice from the device under Miss Jealousy’s chin seemed specially modulated, making it sound crisp and pleasant, distinctly different from the other animals who had spoken earlier.

Lucifer cautiously shook his head.

”Sorry,” he replied succinctly: ”The information I possess is very limited... not enough to reconstruct the events.”

The black cat’s tail twitched slightly.

”What kind of compensation do you plan to offer?” It asked Miss Jealousy, recalling its visit to buy clothes at the Greenhill Mansion and considering its rather impoverished wallet, feeling quite motivated to earn.

”Compensation?”

The Persian cat blinked its pretty eyes, elegantly curling its tail at its feet: ”If it’s just a rough key piece of information, I’m willing to pay a jade coin... for my curiosity... The more detailed the information, the higher the reward... Trust me, you’ll be satisfied.”

The black cat lowered its head, pondering for a few seconds.

”If I’m not mistaken,” Samael’s coarse, grating voice suddenly cut in, the black-and-white wolf head craning toward the black cat, his eyes filled with skepticism: ”Everyone who knew what happened in the forest that day signed a Silence Contract with the school... whether student, on-site instructor, or staff joined afterward.”

Evidently, it was questioning the reliability of the information the black cat could provide.

”Naturally, it’s because I work in the relevant department and am not subject to the school’s standard constraints.” The black cat rolled its eyes, continuing to refine its earlier persona.

”There are many outside the school who are also interested in this information.” The Red Fox on the table joined the transaction, offering favorable terms to the black cat: ”I will pay a higher price than Lady Leviathan... Rest assured, I won’t sell this information to organizations or individuals outside the Alliance.”

Matthew quietly sat at the edge of the conference table, silently listening to the simple and straightforward transactions taking place on the table, gradually understanding why his cousin wanted him to join this secretive wizard organization—merely from what he had gleaned tonight, every one of these wizards before him possessed masterful magic skills, considerable wealth, and had extensive connections with various forces inside and outside the school.

These were resources most ordinary wizards could not tap into.

While Matthew pondered deeply, Zheng Qing was also carefully contemplating the potential negative effects that selling information might bring.

For some reason, he remembered the conversation with Jiang Yu that morning and the witch’s doubts about the school. So, the black cat no longer hesitated, pulled out parchment and a Shorthand Quill, and briefly described the events in the Silent Forest that day from a third-party perspective, making two copies, and slapped them in front of the Persian Cat and Red Fox.

”Ten jade coins per copy.” It set the final price unceremoniously: ”Accept equivalent magic materials, but no bargaining.”
