High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2219: Chapter 440: When the Giant Hand Descends

As Su Shijun guessed, the giant hand that descended from the sky was not targeting the school or these young wizards.

However, before leaving, Zheng Qing couldn’t help but feel that a few differently sized eyeballs seemed to emerge from the giant hand, rolling around, glancing askew, and examining him up and down — among them, a few eyeballs seemed to have grown mouths and ears, whispering among themselves.

The scene was as absurd as it could be.

Of course, this might also just be his illusion, since the mere existence of that ’hand’ was beyond the comprehension of many, including himself, making it difficult to confirm whether what he ’saw’ was real.

The crisis was resolved.

Yet the shattered clouds in the sky couldn’t converge for a long time. The narrow chasm left by the giant hand was like the wide-open eye of a mythical giant gazing down at the world, and the bright sunlight poured through the surging clouds, illuminating the originally dim Silent Forest.

The faint red mountain shadow of the Guarding Curse dissipated.

The young wizards followed Su Shijun to the edge of where the giant hand last descended.

All that remained of the original location of the mutated ogre was an irregular deep pit. The edges of the pit seemed to have been ravaged by lightning and mountain fires, turning jet-black and emitting a complex unsettling odor, a mix of burnt, fishy, and some indescribable fragrant stench — particularly the last one, which Zheng Qing felt was like smelling stinky mandarin fish, stinky tofu, and blue cheese mixed together to the extreme.

Zheng Qing was unsure whether this scent was the residue of the abdominal contents left by the terrified mutated ogre when caught — much like the stress reaction of some insects — or originated from the pollution of the deeps of the starry sky.

Before he could find a clear answer, he felt a poke in his waist.

”You should return the Bronze Book to the Monitor,” Xin Fat Man poked Zheng Qing’s waist from behind, his voice neither too light nor too heavy, without any provocation.

The young cost student instantly awakened, hurriedly closed the Bronze Book, and handed it to Jiang Yu.

”Thanks...”

His words hadn’t yet left his mouth when the witch interrupted him.

”No need to thank me, it was also to save myself.”

She didn’t turn her head, carefully examining that irregular ugly pit, seemingly very interested in the charred matter at the pit’s edge, speaking nonchalantly, ”As for the Bronze Book... you keep it for use, consider it an early Christmas present... Didn’t the Law book issued by the school just get destroyed? By chance, you don’t need to buy a new one.”

Behind her, a few faint but admiring gasps could be heard.

Zheng Qing clutched the Bronze Book, slowly putting it into his coat, his expression carried no surprise, rather a bit of panic, subconsciously glancing at a certain Upper House Member of the Moon Council.

Su Shijun pulled a face, beckoned with a finger, and retrieved the Fox Tail Brush, inserting it behind her back, giving the warlock a stern look, ”My tail has other uses... do you want it?”

Behind her, four groups of blue flames gathered again, swaying gently a few times, seemingly bidding farewell to the young wizard, then the flames suddenly retracted, disappearing instantly under the witch’s skirt.

”No, no, absolutely not,” the cost student shook his head vigorously.

”You don’t want it?” Su Shijun’s eyes narrowed slightly, her expression unfriendly.

”No, want... don’t want?” Zheng Qing was tongue-tied, not knowing whether to nod or shake his head, yet not daring to turn to his companions for help.

Who knows if they still count as his ’companions’ now.

Because he already clearly sensed the undisguised killing intent emanating from behind him, the earnest and genuine manifestation of jealousy from certain warlocks.

The magical zoology teacher coughed lightly, saving the young cost student from a dire situation.

Zheng Qing looked at him gratefully.

Gan Ning didn’t respond, keeping his eyes straight, earnestly saying to Su Shijun, ”Councilor Su, I think the most important thing now is to contact the school... and simultaneously seal off this area to prevent other students from wandering in, causing secondary pollution... and you all had better leave here early too.”

The last words were directed at the young wizards of the Absolution Hunting Team.

Zheng Qing nodded rapidly, eager to hurryingly leave this place which made him feel like on pins and needles.

Su Shijun nodded slightly, but didn’t speak, instead turning to look in the direction of the school, her expression somewhat intriguing, as if curious whether the school realized everything that happened when that giant hand fell.

...

...

When the giant hand fell.

Except for this clearing in the forest, the rest of the world was as ’peaceful and serene’ as ever.

The Andrew’s Army that rushed into the Protect Legal Formation at the last second gathered in twos and threes with their captain, all staring at the golden canopy above, whispering curiously about what was happening outside.

Deeper inside the Winter Hunting Area.

Li Meng was tugging at a fluffy bear’s ear, shouting and swinging wildly, calling a group of first-year ’junior brothers’ and ’junior sisters’ behind her to capture a confused and panicked kappa, completely unaware that the sky overhead had changed color;

The plush bear was swaying like aquatic grass in a swift current, silent, its clear glass eyes full of despair towards this world and a lack of interest towards bear life;

Lin Guo, riding on her Alchemical Black Sheep, was sighing and chasing behind the little witch, swearing for the Nth time that she would never again accept Sister Jiang Yu’s babysitting request;

Outside the Winter Hunting.

Su Ya, resting her head on a twisted rag, lay sprawled on the floor of Su Shijun’s study, snoring, her fluffy big tail comfortably spread out during the days when the missus was absent, like a fine feather duster, happily swaying back and forth;

Korma sat behind the bar at Sakura Pub, rarely holding a bottle of Sea Monster Langmu, a copy of ”Runeek and Standard Magic Text” spread out in front of her, reading it with relish;

Above her, Katherine, the Great Sage’s reliable assistant, and the first Northern District Witch, was providing ’job training’ to a batch of newly imprinted young Northern District Wizards, narrating the arduous and challenging history of the Jini Cottage;

Andrew was sitting in the office of the Trident Sword, brewing his civet coffee while gazing at the golden canopy above, speculating on the reason the First University suddenly raised its Protect Legal Formation;

Within the school.

Professor Li Qihuang squatted in the depths of Hundred Herb Gardens, tending to an injured Rabbit Master, secretly pleased that he slipped away in time, avoiding being dragged to the Professor Joint Meeting;

Professor Yi was pulling at his sparse hair, nodding and shaking his head as he interpreted the latest divination results, occasionally pouting with a playful expression;

Professor Montreya sat in his laboratory, a thick experimental notebook spread open before him, looking up, gazing in a certain direction like a statue.

For a long time.

He finally twisted his stiff neck, sighing slightly:

”Indeed... the starry sky is unreliable... this is truly a dead end.”

As he spoke, he grabbed a black feather pen on the table, dipped it in an ink bottle, flipped through his notebook, and crossed out lots of painstakingly obtained data.

”Did you notice?” In San You Bookstore, a Yellow Flowered Cat suddenly woke up from its dream, yelling to the shop owner.

”What?” The chubby gentleman, with his hands in his pockets, had a slightly groggy look in his eyes, as if not fully awake.

”There’s suddenly a stinky smell...” The Yellow Flowered Cat sniffed around, suspiciously looking around.

”Oh,” the gentleman’s eyes narrowed again, lazily yawning and wiping away the tears at the corners of his eyes, muttering, ”A recycling truck just passed by... no big deal.”
