High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2244: Chapter 465: A Useless Little Detail

”An apple certainly isn’t enough to fill my stomach.”

The warlock wisely made his choice, and at the same time remembered what Xiao Xiao said to him on Monday: ”The doctor mentioned to me a few days ago... Oh, his advice came from the ’Absolution Hunting Team Joint Staff Meeting,’ not sure if you’ve heard of it?”

”The meeting I chaired,” the witch replied calmly.

”Oh, uh, okay.”

The boy blinked, poked a small piece of orange with his fork, wetting his mouth, only then realizing he hadn’t finished speaking, hurriedly added dryly, ”I mean, the doctor advised me not to eat anything handed over by others at the party, nor to drink any drinks... so I plan to eat and drink enough before going.”

”Their concerns are not unfounded, you will certainly be the most attention-grabbing one at the party.”

Perhaps thinking such words might make the boy float, the witch warned immediately, ”But I don’t suggest you eat and drink your fill before going to the party, because the white-robed ones present have experienced countless similar parties, their eyes are sharp, can easily tell if you’re planning to go to the restroom...”

”Do they stop you from going?” Zheng Qing found it somewhat amusing, raised the fork in his hand, and jokingly said seriously, ”There are urgent needs... I mean, for such pressing matters, I don’t mind pulling out the charm gun to deal with any blocking guy.”

Jiang Yu lowered his eyelids, seemingly trying to hide a trace of amusement flashing in his gaze.

”Violence is indeed a way to solve problems, but not very ’Moon Council’ style.”

She calmly handled a small piece of dessert on the plate: ”They consider themselves ’civilized and elegant’ aristocrats, won’t rudely stop you from going to the restroom. But they can always find topics or create situations you can’t get rid of, or even place a Sphinx at the restroom door... lasting until you can’t hold on any longer. Trust me, in terms of annoying people, wizards from distinguished clans are quite adept.”

Imagining himself being forced into an awkward situation at a lively, glamorous party, Zheng Qing felt a chill.

”Actually I’ve never quite understood,”

He fiercely cut into the slightly bloody steak with the largest knife, while trying to recall his experiences at the two school hunting parties: ”Why is there a banquet at the Moon Council party...”

”Arm!”

Jiang Yu immediately saw Zheng Qing’s arm touching the table, first reminded him, then softly hum, and asked back, ”Didn’t Su Councilor tell you?”

The young cost student obediently raised his arm, awkwardly cutting the steak in front of him, looking completely bewildered.

The witch pursed her lips, patiently explained: ”Like I mentioned at the very beginning, the most important purpose of such parties is ’socializing,’ so before and during the party, there are always buffet-style cold dishes to ensure everyone has enough time and energy to last through to the end, moreover, the Christmas Eve party continues until noon on Christmas Day, after the party, the ladies invite favored warlocks to join them for a formal meal, or brave warlocks will proactively visit the ladies’...”

Zheng Qing put down the knife and fork in his hand, utterly shocked.

”It lasts until noon on Christmas Day?”

He didn’t hide his ignorance at all—this wasn’t his fault—for ordinary students of Jiuyou Academy, the inner workings of high-end parties at Alpha Academy are as unfamiliar as the house numbers at Greenhill Mansion, few people know—thus his tone was full of shock: ”Isn’t Christmas on Friday? Jiuyou Academy doesn’t have a holiday that day! Are you asking me to skip classes? Why has no one ever told me this!”

Jiang Yu suddenly seemed to be in a good mood.

”Perhaps Su Councilor thought you ought to know these little things.”

She raised the corner of her napkin, elegantly wiped her lips: ”Normally, for members of the Moon Council clans eligible to attend the party, this is common knowledge. As for holidays, your invitation is the most valid excuse note, the academy recognizes it... In fact, I think some academies wish more communication among students, but the power of tradition and prejudice is so strong, that it’s hard for anyone to break this stubborn perception.”

...

...

Wednesday night, the Black Cat appeared again at Greenhill Mansion.

The Upper House Member of the Moon Council was working on a thick stack of documents behind the desk, while Poseidon was nodding off over a book titled ”Awakening Bloodline Power” that was larger than her.

”The Moon Council party lasts all night until Friday noon?” The Black Cat seemed like its tail caught fire, hurriedly jumped onto the desk: ”You never told me this!”

The mansion owner raised her eyelids, her gaze crossing the top of her glasses and falling on the Black Cat’s paws, not saying a word.

Only then did the Black Cat notice the small trail of paw prints it left behind.

It sheepishly lifted one paw, then another, and realized that such belated remedies were meaningless, wanting to jump off the desk but worried about leaving new ’paw prints’ on the surface.

Just then, Poseidon dropped the heavy textbook she was holding, squealed with joy as she pounced on the Black Cat, chirping about how seriously she studied, how much new knowledge she acquired today, and how tired her eyes were—without a doubt, these words weren’t directed at the Black Cat, but it served well as a tool cat.

Similarly.

During the Little Fox’s chaos, the Black Cat subtly raised its hind paws, grabbed the Little Fox’s big tail, quietly rubbing away the few ’paw prints’ on the desk, cleaning its paws on the Little Fox as well.

When he looked up, Su Shijun was squinting at him.

”Su Man!”

The owner of Greenhill Mansion raised her voice slightly.

The tall figure of the Head Maid appeared silently behind the Black Cat, scaring it into instinctively lowering its tail and head. Fortunately, Miss Su didn’t ask Su Man to throw it out.

”Take Dong Dong for a bath, then watch her sleep.” Su Shijun said words that relieved both the Black Cat and the Little Fox with a sigh. The Little Fox swung her tail, eagerly jumped into Su Man’s arms, in an instant forgetting the tool cat.

Once the Head Maid left, the mansion owner’s gaze returned to the Black Cat.

”Does it make any difference whether the party lasts one night or one day?”

She put down the feather pen she was holding, elegantly stretched and spoke nonchalantly: ”You’re my dance partner, are you planning to find a favored lady at the party and join the grand luncheon she prepared the next day?”

She slightly emphasized the word luncheon.

The Black Cat unconsciously pulled its ears into an airplane shape, curled its tail, covering its paws, seemingly making its heart feel warmer.

”Hmm, I recall tonight is about learning the Amber Light identification skill and drinking methods, right?” It shamelessly glanced at a row of wine bottles arranged on the desk—since its dark face revealed no color, it didn’t fear being ridiculed.

”Tch.”

A disdainful voice from the witch reached its ears.
