High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2212: Chapter 433: The Best Help

The green fox tail spun like a windmill, instantly transforming into over a dozen shadow projections, appearing in several directions, effortlessly evading the four thick and clumsy arms.

At the same time.

The witch in mid-air gave a sharp cry, her law book in hand radiating brilliant light as colorful spells rained down like raindrops, ’watering’ the arm that had emerged from the dust.

The arm suddenly let out an ear-piercing curse, and a large mouth full of sharp teeth scrambled from the palm to the back of the hand, avoiding the ’spell rain’ from the witch.

This was the magnificent and eerie scene that unfolded before Zheng Qing’s eyes.

”The rogue wind rises, and in the final wind smog comes!”

The magical zoology teacher finally reopened his law book, casting a Composite Curse—a spell whose first half was a classic Calling Wind Curse, while the latter half added the effect of sweeping away dust with the gale.

Most of the time, wizards used the latter half of the spell to create weather similar to ’dust storms’ to obscure demons’ vision; but sometimes, like now, if there was heavy fog or a sandstorm, using this spell would have a ’fight fire with fire’ effect, using the wind to blow away the dust.

Gan Ning might have merely tried to make the view clearer for a better look at the rare experimental subject before him. However, this move provided enormous convenience for the young wizard of Absolution.

The dust covering the battlefield was swiftly retreating under the storm’s effect, with the open ground reflecting the cold colors of the sky; some gray snow had gathered at the base of charred stumps scattered across the land, resembling the rotting nails of a dead giant.

Further away, the stacked black forest and white snow appeared like an endless ink painting—dense in some places, sparse in others—offering an impeccable natural beauty in its composition.

At the center of this ’natural beauty’ was an entirely ’unnatural’ man-made creation.

Describing it as ’unnatural’ was simply too kind; Zheng Qing had encountered the descendants of Satoguya, dealt with more than one black mountain goat cub, and even had afternoon tea in the space between life and death with several great beings from the deeps of the starry sky.

Yet this was the first time he had seen a creature so bizarre and ugly.

It crouched—Zheng Qing wasn’t sure if the monster was crouching, lying down, or in some other position—anyway, it stood where the hoop-headed ogre had previously been. Its brow and eyes vaguely retained a hint of the ogre’s features, with a potbelly and a short, thick neck adorned with a dozen heads. Its entire body was covered in protruding tiny flesh whiskers, resembling a snail’s antennae; its skin, akin to melted wax, appeared a pale bluish-gray in the snow’s reflection, adorned with dizzying dim magic runes that twisted, deformed, and merged continuously as the ’wax’ flowed.

By comparison, even the ogre looked rather handsome.

Although he quickly scanned over it, the monster filled Zheng Qing with an indescribable unease, as if every detail of its body induced physical discomfort in the warlock. Yet the flowing, living-like magic runes on its skin fascinated the young scholarship student, an intricate intertwining and merging of runes that was nearly impossible to look away from.

Zheng Qing had to forcibly lower his head, focusing his eyes on the ground beneath the creature.

The inverted pentagram magic array drawn with ogre’s blood had long lost its original form, with the dark red blood transformed into an array of winding black marks under the interaction of soil, thunder, and magic power.

Whether it was an illusion or not, Zheng Qing couldn’t shake the feeling that this monster had somehow grown from this bizarre, absurd array.

Like him.

Gan Ning’s gaze was also fixed on the magic circle beneath the monster.

But unlike Zheng Qing, as an experienced ’Raven,’ the magical zoology teacher could discern more details from the magic circle—he seemed to find himself once again standing in a laboratory deep within the Silent Forest. Professor Montreya was at the experiment table, lifting the subject’s nerve with tweezers, describing in detail their mutated traits to the Ravens.

The feather pen danced lightly on the parchment, producing a rustling sound, but to Gan Ning, it was as if hearing the high and low cries of different test subjects.

Every detail on the array conveyed the professor’s philosophy and will, his unwavering, rational to the point of cold dedication; each change enriched the professor’s powerful charisma emanating in the pursuit of magical truth, making one eager to follow in his every footprint.

Even now, amidst a battlefield, before an out-of-control experimental subject and with a vigilant Big Wizard overhead, Gan Ning could hardly suppress his fervor.

”Teacher?”

”Mr. Gan?”

”Professor Gan!”

”Silence and Think!”

The continuous cries finally snapped the young lecturer out of his near-fascinated state; he jolted awake, cold sweat trickling down his back.

”Don’t focus too much attention on it; that will make you lose control within!”

The magical zoology lecturer loudly warned his student, immediately closing his eyes, reaching for a small bottle of Lu Er De Holy Water from his waist, consuming it internally and then applying it to his eyes and ears. Feeling much clearer, he breathed a sigh of relief, opened his eyes again, and looked towards the Bo Fu Clan giant’s location.

To his surprise, neither the Blue Giant nor the young scholarship student standing atop the Blue Giant showed signs of losing control, instead showing a hint of confusion at his tension.

That confusion gave Gan Ning an unspoken sense of defeat.

Hesitating slightly, he nonetheless explained: ”...I felt the starry pollution from it... For wizards with unsteady will, the starry sky causes one to lose oneself... The greatest rule of contact with the starry sky is ’do not gaze at the starry sky,’ so do not look at it.”

While talking, he had already drifted to the feet of the Bo Fu Clan giant, casting several Guarding Curses in succession, shrouding Zheng Qing and the Blue Giant with a layer of pale yellow translucent shell.

”Ridiculous.”

Once again, the mocking laugh of the Little Green Snake sounded in Zheng Qing’s ear: ”It’s nothing more than a deformed monster, not even close to being a starry descendant, let alone polluting you, little creature!”

Zheng Qing wasn’t sure whether it was an insult.

But he realized that unless he was on the brink of death, not to expect extra help from the Little Green Snake.

”If we don’t look at it, how can we help?”

The young scholarship student ignored the noise in his ear, pointing towards the witch in mid-air, reminding the magical zoology teacher they weren’t fighting alone.

Gan Ning glanced at him, amiably adding: ”Not creating confusion is the best help for Councilor Su... Step back a little, don’t block Councilor Su’s view.”
