Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1217: Chapter 1218: Equal Treatment for All

But at this moment, Xiao Changyi spoke up, careful not to wake the four little ones, he lowered his voice particularly low: ”It’s not appropriate for you to make Gong Juechen a military doctor.”

An Jing was initially stunned, then also lowered her voice and said: ”I trust him; he would not do anything detrimental to Xiyun.” She paused, ”If he had such intentions, he would have let Chengyu die in Nan Shen at the beginning.”

Xiao Changyi said: ”I trust him too. However, Chengyu does not trust him.”

An Jing fell silent in an instant.

After a while, An Jing finally said: ”Aren’t we going to the palace tomorrow? When the time comes, we can vouch for him in front of Chengyu. Chengyu trusts us a lot, and if we vouch for him, even if Chengyu can’t fully trust him, he should still allow him to be the military doctor.”

”That’s the only way.” Apart from this, Xiao Changyi really had no other good solutions for resolving this matter.

The next day, An Jing and Xiao Changyi, along with the four little ones, entered the palace.

After everyone had shared a lunch, An Jing talked to Su Chengyu about wanting Gong Juechen to be a military doctor.

Su Chengyu, upon hearing this, indeed objected.

But because An Jing and Xiao Changyi vigorously defended him, Su Chengyu, although still very uneasy about Gong Juechen entering the important military camp, finally agreed to let Gong Juechen serve as a military doctor in the women’s military camp.

After settling this matter, Su Chengyu spoke for his beloved sister Su Chengyuan: ”Sister-in-law, Chengyuan’s character is a bit spoiled. I agreed to let her join the military camp because she sincerely wants to help me. I am truly pleased she has such intentions, but I don’t expect her to stay in the military camp for long. Once she can’t bear the hardships of the military life, she will definitely return to the palace. During her time in the camp, I hope sister-in-law will take good care of her.”

An Jing said: ”Emperor has entrusted the development of the female soldiers to me. I will devote myself wholeheartedly and follow the military regulations, treating all new recruits equally, without any bias.”

An Jing addressed him as Emperor, not Chengyu, and even referred to herself as a subject, showing her great dissatisfaction with his approach, believing he treated military affairs as child’s play.

And how can military affairs be treated as child’s play?

Su Chengyu understood, first sighed, then shamefully said: ”Sister-in-law, you are right, everything should indeed be done according to military rules. It was my oversight.”

Only then did An Jing soften her tone: ”Chengyu, you are always a very judicious person. I know you adore Chengyuan, but there are some precedents that can be broken, and some absolutely cannot. Once in the military camp, one becomes a soldier, tasked with protecting the country. How can it be treated as child’s play, to just play around and then leave?”

Su Chengyu felt even more ashamed, got up, and gave An Jing a solemn bow: ”I hope for sister-in-law to act according to military regulations, and not to show partiality towards Chengyuan.”

Actually, in her heart, An Jing also understood that Su Chengyu knew all the reasoning she offered, and his action of bowing to her, despite being an Emperor, further demonstrated his magnanimity and closeness to her.

An Jing gently supported Su Chengyu to sit back down, then said: ”Don’t blame me for this, I’m doing this for the good of Xiyun and you.”

”How could I blame you, sister-in-law? I can’t thank you enough,” Su Chengyu said with a smile.

An Jing also smiled.

Xiao Changyi didn’t smile but suddenly said: ”After the 20th day of the first month, I will occasionally visit Wolf Camp.”

The women’s military camp is located next to Wolf Camp, which is now managed by Liu Buli and houses a total of twenty thousand soldiers.
