Chapter 1207: Chapter 1208: You Really Are Hard to Please

”Husband, you should hurry and check on him; drinking too much really harms the body.”

Xiao Changyi, however, did not go immediately, instead he said, ”You come with me.”

Without any hesitation, An Jing agreed upon hearing that Xiao Changyi wanted her to accompany him: ”Okay.”

Then, Xiao Changyi and An Jing rode their horses into the palace.

The doors of Jun Palace were tightly closed. Upon his arrival, Xiao Changyi didn’t knock but pushed open the door and walked in.

Inside Jun Palace, however, Su Chengyu was no longer drinking. He sat there in a bad mood, looking at the wine cup and pot he had been drinking from.

Su Chengyu had only drunk a little over twenty cups, and his alcohol tolerance was normally quite good; even drinking this much wouldn’t make him the slightest bit drunk.

Upon entering, An Jing and Xiao Changyi saw that Su Chengyu was not drinking anymore. They exchanged a glance and then, without a word, they sat down opposite Su Chengyu.

Su Chengyu first looked at An Jing and Xiao Changyi opposite him, then lowered his eyelids to look at the wine cup, and slowly said with a particularly low mood, ”What am I doing all this for? She knows that it’s all for her, yet she doesn’t support me... She used to support everything I did without question, but now...”

”Brother Yi, Sister-in-law, I’m afraid. I’m afraid she’ll end up like the Empress Mother, dying in the palace’s power struggles.”

”If she were the only one in the harem, who would vie with her? Who would harm her?”

”I already told her, and she knows it, but she still advises me to take other women... Haha...” As he spoke, Su Chengyu bitterly laughed twice.

”For her, fearing that others would compete with her, I never touched any of those consorts and concubines when I was the Crown Prince.”

Hearing this, An Jing was taken aback.

Xiao Changyi, on the other hand, remained particularly composed, with no expression on his face.

Su Chengyu continued, ”I really didn’t touch any of them. But even if I had, I wouldn’t have let them bear my children. The cautionary tale of my Empress Mother is right there; how could I possibly let her follow in my mother’s footsteps? From the day I took her as my wife, I planned to keep only her once I ascended the throne.”

An Jing finally understood completely why, when Su Chengyu was the Crown Prince, there had been no news of pregnancies for so many consorts and concubines. It turned out that Su Chengyu had never touched them.

”She doesn’t know about these concubines and concubines. Originally, I wanted to tell her, but seeing her like this, I don’t want to speak of it... She is no longer my Wen Xian, she is Xiyun’s Empress... She has changed...” The more he spoke, the lower Su Chengyu’s voice became, and the more melancholic his mood.

However, An Jing felt that the current Su Chengyu was like a heartbroken child, quite childlike, and she laughed: ”When she was the Crown Princess Consort, you wanted her to first be a good Crown Princess Consort, then be a good Ning Wenxian to you. Now that she is the Empress, tasked with exemplifying the mother of the state, you wish for her to first be the Ning Wenxian you love and then be a good Empress... You really are hard to please.”

Su Chengyu, looking dejected, replied, ”Sister-in-law, I understand what you’re saying, but my heart is just not at ease. Everyone else may advise me to take more consorts, but she cannot. I didn’t want her to persuade me, and yet, she insists on doing so.”

An Jing asked, ”Do you feel that her persuading you is a sign that she doesn’t love you as much?”

Su Chengyu nodded.

In front of others, he would act mature and dignified, with a particularly imposing demeanor, but in front of his Brother Yi and Sister-in-law, he wouldn’t pretend. And there was no need to. They had a clear understanding of what kind of person he was.
