Chapter 1202: Chapter 1203: Do You Own the Military Camp?

Marquis of Boyang first expressed a respectful ’I dare not’ to the grand arrival of An Jing, then proceeded to say: ”My foolish daughter doesn’t understand the gravity of her actions and has enlisted in the military. I hope the Princess can remove her name from the roster.”

Without waiting for An Jing to speak, Marquis of Boyang continued: ”My daughter has always been frail, and she simply cannot withstand the rigorous training in the military camp. Instead of being sent back home in disgrace, it would be better if the Princess could erase her name from the records now. I would be eternally grateful.”

An Jing responded indifferently: ”Marquis, do you own the military camp? Can your daughter come and go as she pleases?”

Marquis of Boyang was immediately startled and hastily said: ”The Marquis is only concerned for his daughter and spoke out of turn. I ask for the Princess’s understanding.” If the Emperor Su Chengyu were to think that the military camp was his property, ten heads would not be enough to quell the repercussions!

An Jing slowly sipped the tea that Xiao Changyi had poured for her and said leisurely: ”Joining the military is no child’s play. It was your daughter’s own desire to enlist; I did not force her. If she regrets it now, I would trouble you, Marquis, to bring this matter before the Emperor. I shall not engage in such trifles as treating military service as a trifle. I have promised the Emperor not to disappoint his expectations. However, if the Emperor orders me to remove your daughter’s name, I shall do so without hesitation.”

Whether it was Su Haoyu, Su Chengyu, or any of the late Emperors from Xiyun, each Emperor placed great importance on the development of the military. Who would dare to take it so lightly? That would be nothing short of courting death!

The Marquis of Boyang would not dare to take Liu Feifei to see Emperor Su Chengyu about this matter. Upon hearing what An Jing said, he quickly put on a smiling face and replied: ”The Princess is jesting. The Marquis is anxious because of his deep love for his daughter and worries for her well-being. It’s not that she regrets her decision. How could she? She is eagerly awaiting at home for the notification, keen to know when she can join the military camp as a soldier.”

An Jing said: ”The exact date has yet to be determined. Once it is set, someone will be sent to notify her.”

Marquis of Boyang plastered on another smile, then said: ”My daughter’s health is poor; she may not be able to withstand the assessment. I hope the Princess will not insist on keeping her if she fails.”

An Jing immediately scoffed: ”Why would I insist on keeping someone who fails the assessment? But Marquis, if Feifei does pass, I hope you will willingly let her serve in the military and not impede her.”

Without waiting for the Marquis of Boyang’s response, An Jing nonchalantly added: ”This matter is of little concern to me, but if the Emperor were to know that the Marquis is obstructing someone from serving the country, what do you think the Emperor would make of this?”

Marquis of Boyang broke out in a cold sweat and quickly responded: ”Every member of the Marquis of Boyang’s household is utterly loyal to the Emperor, willing to serve to the utmost even unto death. The fact that my daughter volunteered to enlist also speaks to this point. It was merely a moment of confusion due to my excessive love for her. The Marquis would never obstruct anyone from serving their country, and I hope the Princess can see clearly!”

An Jing said: ”If the Marquis has no intention of impeding someone from serving their country, that is most fortunate. Whether your daughter can stay in the army and serve the country depends on her own abilities. Neither you nor I have the power to influence that.”

”Yes.” Besides agreeing, Marquis of Boyang dared not utter another word, fearful of misspeaking again.

Misspeaking anything further might indeed cost him his head.

After Marquis of Boyang left, An Jing asked Xiao Changyi: ”My husband, do you think marriage freedom can be realized here?”

Xiao Changyi shook his head.
