Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1203: Chapter 1204: Du Aya

An Jing sighed immediately upon seeing Xiao Changyi shake his head: ”I also feel it’s impossible to achieve.”

At least, as long as she was alive, it could not be achieved here.

To strive for marriage freedom was really too difficult.

The overall environment here is just like that; there’s nothing that can be done.

”In our place, there’s freedom to love and autonomy in marriage.” After a pause, An Jing added: ”If it were like that here too, Liu Feifei wouldn’t have had a marriage arranged by the Marquis of Boyang that she was dissatisfied with, and she could naturally be together with Liu Buli.”

Xiao Changyi said, ”Everyone has their own fate.”

An Jing immediately smiled: ”The more I see others, the luckier I feel for having met you right after arriving.”

Xiao Changyi looked at her, his cool eyes gradually warming, and after a long while, he slightly hooked the corner of his mouth and said: ”Same for me.”

An Jing stopped speaking and just kept smiling at Xiao Changyi. She was truly content. Her husband was really too good to her, it would be impossible for her to feel unsatisfied.

...

The recruitment of soldiers was for ten days, and on the tenth day, as it was about to get dark and they still saw no women coming to enlist, An Jing was about to have the recruitment post taken down.

But just as she stood up and before she could speak, she saw a burly man rushing toward them.

Once he arrived, the burly man asked breathlessly: ”This is where you’re recruiting female soldiers, right?”

An Jing replied: ”Yes.”

The burly man asked: ”Can I still sign up?”

An Jing replied: ”It’s not dark yet, you can.”

”Good, I can still sign up.” After heaving a big sigh of relief, the burly man said with a smile: ”Then I want to sign up.”

An Jing: ”...”

Ye Zhi: ”...”

Xiao Changyi: ”...”

Meng Zhuqing: ”...”

An Jing silently reminded him: ”We are recruiting female soldiers. Female.”

The burly man immediately said: ”But I am a woman!”

An Jing: ”...”

Ye Zhi: ”...”

Xiao Changyi: ”...”

Meng Zhuqing: ”...”

The burly man continued: ”I truly am a woman, it’s just for convenience to help my father butcher pigs that I dress as a man. I just finished helping my father kill a pig, and as soon as I was done, I ran over to sign up, thankfully in time. I had planned to come earlier, but recently there have been so many weddings, requiring lots of pork, so I’ve been busy butchering pigs these days and had no time. Today’s the last day, and if I didn’t come, I would miss the chance to enlist.”

An Jing looked the ’burly man’ up and down. This person was even more robust than an average burly man, and though there was no horizontal flesh on the face, he looked very masculine. Frankly, An Jing still found it hard to believe this person was a woman.

”You...” An Jing hesitated, then decided to ask: ”Are you really a woman?”

”Yes.” The ’burly man’ nodded vigorously and confidently. ”My name is Du A Ya, the daughter of Butcher Du from the west of Imperial Capital. But because I look more masculine than men, no one wants to marry me. I figured since I can’t get married anyway, I might as well become a soldier. Butchering pigs every day is tedious, so, I came.”

An Jing still found it hard to believe. This person really looked too much like a man. No, not just looked like, but was really just like a man. It was completely unimaginable that she would be a woman.

Ye Zhi and the others also didn’t believe it, thinking that Du A Ya was deceiving them.

Seeing that everyone seemed skeptical, Du A Ya bluntly proposed: ”How about this, you don’t think I’m a woman, I’ll take off my clothes so you can see, and then you’ll know I haven’t lied.”
