Chapter 1208: Chapter 1209: The One You Should Be Speaking To, Isn’t Me

”Have you forgotten about her going to Nan Shen to find you?” An Jing asked again.

Su Chengyu shook his head, ”I haven’t forgotten.”

He paused, ”I know her intentions, but I just can’t control myself. Once I hear her urging me to take consorts, I get angry.”

He paused again, ”We’ve never argued before, today was the first time.”

An Jing said, ”She argued with you?”

Su Chengyu thought back carefully before responding, ”No, she was just persuading me, and then I started arguing with her.”

”It was you who argued with her, she didn’t argue with you. It doesn’t count as an argument, you were just unilaterally mad at her.” After pausing, An Jing said, ”Just like back then in Nan Shen when you didn’t want her to see you in that state and told her to get lost, but she didn’t blame you and stood by your door all night.”

Su Chengyu fell silent.

Because indeed that was the case. His Wen Xian had always been particularly good-tempered with him, never getting angry, always gentle and especially understanding.

Now, she became less understanding, just because she asked him to take consorts...

And at this moment, Xiao Changyi asked indifferently, ”Is your position secure now?”

Su Chengyu was initially puzzled, but then realizing the meaning, said, ”Not yet. But it’s okay for me to only keep Wen Xian in my harem.”

During his time as the Crown Prince, because his maternal family was not very powerful, his position was never very strong. Later, to secure his position as Crown Prince, he married several consorts from families with good backgrounds. Now that he was Emperor, however, he didn’t bestow the title of imperial consort upon them. Even though those consorts’ families did not show any outward signs, in fact, he had offended them.

Those consorts’ families, which one of them didn’t wish for their daughters to bear sons for him, and later inherit the throne, elevating their daughters from poverty to riches, and they themselves basked in reflected glory?

But now, he didn’t confer the titles of consort to their daughters, not only denying them glory but also making them a laughingstock; they must be harboring resentment against him.

And these people pose a threat to him now.

A threat? How could his throne be secure?

But he had already made up his mind unless they were truly restless, he would not act against them, and he would even treat them well.

After all, it was he who had first used them for his own advantage.

Xiao Changyi said, ”As long as you confer the titles of imperial consort on those former Crown Prince consorts and take in more women from prominent families into the harem, then your throne will be secure.”

But Su Chengyu still insisted with the same conviction, ”Brother Yi, I still have the ability to keep only Wen Xian in my harem.”

Xiao Changyi huffed, ”Why do you keep mentioning this to me? This is something you should be saying to someone else.”

Su Chengyu was taken aback at first, then enlightened, and laughed, ”Thank you, Brother Yi. I’ll go and talk to Wen Xian now!”

Saying this, Su Chengyu stood up and wanted to go find Ning Wen Xian, but he had taken no more than two steps when a eunuch rushed in to report.

”Your Majesty, something’s wrong. The Empress wanted to make some bird’s nest soup to apologize to you but accidentally fell, and she is now suffering from severe abdominal pain.”

”What?!” Su Chengyu was so anxious that he couldn’t care about anything else and hurried to Fengqi Palace.

Hearing that Ning Wen Xian had severe abdominal pain, An Jing and Xiao Changyi also hurried over to check.

As Su Chengyu ran into Fengqi Palace, the people there knelt down in unison and joyfully said, ”Congratulations, Your Majesty, congratulations. The Empress is pregnant again.”
