Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 1000: Chapter 561: ”Anthropologist” (Part 3)

Li Wenxi lay down on the bed, thinking about the things she had just talked about with Xu Ying, and finally feeling the drowsiness creeping in.

”I wonder how Xu Xin and the others are doing up there...”

With that thought, she closed her eyes.

...

On the ground, Shi Wanyun had already recounted everything that happened later to Xu Xin in full.

After the monster left, Shi Wanyun steeled herself in the hall for a few minutes and hadn’t yet left the hall when Mature Woman No. 5 came up again.

To prevent No. 5 from seeing her loss of composure, Shi Wanyun hurriedly wiped the tear marks from her eye corners caused by fear with her sleeve.

The result was that she accidentally peeled off a patch of skin on her face.

Although Shi Wanyun didn’t elaborate, Xu Xin always felt that Shi Wanyun might have been even more rattled at that moment than when she saw the monster.

She might even have screamed outright.

No. 5, however, was quite familiar with this scene and immediately comforted her, then took her to the bathroom.

In the bathroom, she told No. 5 the monster’s, that is, the ”master’s,” requirements.

And No. 5, through some means, had already received the news, and immediately told her to go to her room after taking a shower.

And at Xu Xin’s request, Shi Wanyun showed him what happened after the shower through memory transmission.

Things became quite simple after that.

No. 5 told Shi Wanyun that she would be transported to an underground space, where she’d meet her target, Xu Xin.

”Once your target arrives there, the place will begin to revive. And your task is to complete your mission before that revives entirely. If you can’t, stay by the target and find another opportunity; if you fail, don’t come back.”

No. 5’s voice was a bit cold, but then her tone turned gentle again: ”That’s the master’s original words. I didn’t expect you’d be sent out on a mission just after arriving; be careful outside.”

Her instructions left Shi Wanyun with a touch of warmth in her heart.

But thinking of the monster’s appearance, her face turned pale again.

”What’s the matter? Still feeling under the weather?”

”Mm... The drug’s effect is too strong; I need some recovery time.” Shi Wanyun managed to smile.

At this moment, she almost had no desire to stay here.

”...Although I don’t think you would do so, I still need to remind you.” Mature Woman No. 5’s voice turned cool again, ”Even though the master’s appearance is indeed terrifying, never entertain the thought of betraying him. You must know that the survivor plan was orchestrated by the master single-handedly.”

”What?” Shi Wanyun immediately looked up in shock.

”That’s right, it was the master who brought us to this world, so he can also determine our life or death.”

...That strange thing, is it really the owner of that mysterious voice?!

No... it shouldn’t be. The mysterious voice speaks very fluently, completely different from that monster.

”The master just told me if you choose to betray, he’ll not only turn you into a hideous monster but also kill off the entire fifth batch of survivors.”

The mature woman looked at her: ”But, you wouldn’t betray, would you? There’s nothing to gain from betrayal.”

”Mm, of course.” Shi Wanyun smiled lightly, ”Humans in a city are my real home.”

They’ve all been brainwashed.

That kind of terrifying monster is probably just using humans as experimental tools.

In its densely-packed eyes, humans might just be livestock.

She... what should she do?
