Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 968: Chapter 550: A Century of Calamity at the Human Stronghold (Part 2)

Xu Ying’s words made the three people present show some strange expressions.

Old man Wei Bai suddenly felt a chill down his spine and chuckled bitterly, ”Should I be thankful for your mercy then?”

He had long known that Xu Ying could travel through time, but this was the first time he heard about such a thing.

Meanwhile, Wei Shishi, who had kept a neutral expression, looked at Xu Ying with deep caution and a hint of fear.

If this could be realized, it would be like killing invisibly!

”I definitely wouldn’t do such a thing, and aren’t we talking about the beast tide? Wei Shishi, please continue, I am not familiar with this matter.” Xu Ying leaned on the back of the chair.

Although dissatisfied with Xu Ying’s lazy sitting posture, Wei Shishi didn’t waste more words and continued, ”A hundred years ago, the human stronghold was devastated by the incoming tide of beasts, with almost everyone from the outer regions escaping inward.”

”The giant beast tide seemed endless!”

”Back then almost all soldiers went to the frontline, the foundation accumulated over hundreds of years was depleted within a year, military resources were severely exhausted, more than the total of the previous nine hundred years.”

”As military power leaders, the Wei Family suffered the most loss in that disaster, subsequently losing control over this underground human base, leading to three families standing on equal footing.”

”That’s indeed the case.” Xu Ying nodded, ”Our original plan was to support one family with significantly more power than the other two. Though outwardly it looked like three families on equal footing, secretly the Wei Family had the capability to consolidate the three families as long as given a bit of help, it could centralize power. However...the sudden disaster a hundred years ago made the outward situation the real situation.”

”That’s how it is.” Old man Wei Bai sighed again, ”Fifty years ago, when Xu Ying and Xu Xin came, they intended to help us get stronger again and regain control.”

”Unfortunately, at that time, our strategic resources had already been exhausted, we had skills but no resources, with beasts invading outside and internal calamity, the Wei Family could barely breathe back then. So at that time...sigh...”

Wei Shishi nodded and continued, ”Over the past fifty years, the beast tide continued incessantly, and not only external beast tides, even sparsely populated areas within the base were almost occupied by them, they became real beasts.”

Now the size of the human base is almost equivalent to a large nation on Earth a thousand years ago. With such a large area, it’s understandable that beasts roam inside.

Such a long border, so many beast groups, there’s simply no way to defend...

”Fortunately, in these past twenty years, these beasts have calmed down, especially the ones inside the territory, hardly attacking the human base anymore and instead integrating into the region’s ecosystem.”

”However, even so, to prevent any unforeseen events, necessary resource consumption is indispensable. Over the past fifty years, our foundation has still been slowly diminishing.”

”Therefore...” Wei Shishi looked at Li Wenxi, ”If you really have such ability, please save us.”

”If it continues like this, this human base will lose its ability to protect itself.”

Li Wenxi was basically aware of the current situation of the human base, she nodded quickly, ”Of course, I definitely will help you, I came here for this matter. Moreover, in the time I’ve been here, I’ve already discovered a mine.”

”Already discovered?” Wei Bai and Wei Shishi were both surprised.

Xu Ying chuckled, ”Sister-in-law’s ability, to you now, is absolutely a real lifeline.”

Bringing Li Wenxi here, the most important purpose was not to save this underground world that would face resource depletion in decades.

After all, the most crucial resource, Crystal Stone, is nearly exhausted.

Despite containing huge energy, the underground humans can’t mine or utilize it, it can only be used to emit light and passively release energy.

Similar to the function of the sun.

But this Crystal Stone, essential for maintaining and expanding the basis of the underground world, has been nearly depleted over a thousand years.

Living in the underground world is not a long-term plan.

Xu Ying brought Li Wenxi underground, more to provide resources for mass weapon production, transforming this underground human base into a crazily operating underground arsenal.

Not only to ward off underground beast groups but also preparing for future ground battles.

This was their original goal, to make this underground force one of the key strengths in resisting alien invaders in the future.

This century-long beast invasion consumed too much of the underground world’s strength, there’s no choice but to replenish now.

Luckily, the progress on the ground hasn’t reached the need for a huge weapon army yet.

However, time is of the essence!

Wei Bai showed joy, stood up, and asked directly, without doubt, ”Where is the resource located?”

”Hmm, it’s near where I reside, but it’s...” Li Wenxi pointed overhead.
